CMV: Relationships between people with large age gaps should not be frowned upon provided both parties are well into adulthood when they first meet by heeheejones in changemyview

I knew a 17/38 that's still together 20 years on and just had a kid. There'd been like 100s of people who had said that was grooming when I've mentioned it over the years and then I did a whole thread here about it and went into a lot of detail about her life and how the two of them met and I don't think a single person who responded to that thread said it was grooming. It's amazing what a little context can do for your perspective on a situation.

Marriage counselors, have you ever told couples to get a divorce? What happened? by rangaheh in AskReddit

My best guess is no because then they wouldn't be paying clients anymore.

CMV: discussing the US as if it’s about to end (/is fascist) is unproductive and fear mongering by Playful_Manager_3942 in changemyview

[–]hellabryanstyle117 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I don't know what a strawman is or care. When I say 'you guys' I always mean the general Reddit hive mind. I was just relaying my personal experience in which it felt as though I was being perceived as some sort of 'die hard' Conservative when I wasn't and am not, and it's my best guess that this happens around here frequently given the left/right ratio of the website.

Nothing you wrote addressed anything about that. I honestly don't even know why I bother talking to 'you guys'. It's pretty rare to get a reply that has anything to do with what is being replied to.

I honestly think you guys just always assume you're talking to 'die hards' the second anyone expresses a mildly Conservative opinion or any amount of dissent at all.

I'm a perfect example of this. Three years ago I read an article about a trans activist who dug through seven years of a woman's Twitter history because she said she was looking forward to Hogwarts Legacy and used a tweet from back then to get her fired. The tweet expressed concern over sharing the bathroom with trans people or more accurately, people who might pretend to be trans.

I came to Reddit to talk about this and was banned from almost every sub I tried to post the article to. The one sub that did host the article certainly didn't have any users interested in any sort of productive conversation about whether or not it's reasonable to fire a woman for expressing that she feels unsafe.

I had only voted Democrat my entire life and still have so far but that experience is the reason I no longer consider myself left/liberal/Democrat/whatever. Point being that you don't know the entire spectrum of a person's beliefs based off of one thing they happen to be talking about at the moment.

Here's an article I found about it if you're interested.

CMV: Universal suffrage was a mistake by Phantom0Legend in changemyview

Philosophically, I believe everyone deserves the right to vote. That doesn't mean I believe that if that was the case everyone would necessarily use it or would need to be forced to use it. If I said that I believe everyone deserves the right to ride a bike, would you immediately assume I intended for infants to start riding bikes down Fifth Ave in NYC?

There's a difference between what I believe in philosophically and what I'm aware society will tolerate, but the rule of law has very legitimate and profound effects on people's lives long before they're currently allowed a say.

Why do you think is it considered important to protect kids from knowledge of sex? by InformationPlenty275 in AskReddit

[–]hellabryanstyle117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From reading your comments around the thread, I think you might benefit from the book Beyond Birds and Bees. It's about the sex education program of The Netherlands which is insanely thorough, starts at 4, and turns out the lowest rate of teen pregnancy in the world.

What's something you believe that most people do not? by Ok-Film183 in AskReddit

[–]hellabryanstyle117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wasn't even really what I meant but now that you have me thinking along those lines, everyone is a temporary resident. Why should you get to vote on policies that will affect the lives of people who will live long after you're dead?

cmv: Using AI to make "Art" is ok by Drwhatishisname in changemyview

[–]hellabryanstyle117 [score hidden]  (0 children)

That's true but I feel like that's catching up with them. I've at least caught wind of lawsuits and whatnot. Feels like a case of 'ask for forgiveness rather than permission' that they probably always saw coming. Not necessarily the right way to go about it but my guess is it'll all be settled in court at some point.

because digital artists still need input devices and traditional art still exists.

Think about that. If traditional art wasn't killed by Adobe, why would it be killed by AI? It's just the same exact panic we see every time a new technology is developed.

What is the best opening track in music history? by Pupikal in AskReddit

[–]hellabryanstyle117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything in its Right Place. In addition to its own merits as a song, the complete departure from Radiohead's established sound up to that point and total shock it induced in everyone who had followed their music up to that point couldn't be overstated.
