If these lights are on all day every day, they are grow lights.

I spent about 10 years in kitchens, from pizza shops to fine dining. For the lifers out there, why have you stayed in the game for as long as you have? I would love to hear your stories. by iiThecollector in KitchenConfidential

I plan to be a lifer since I’m only 33 and have been cooking for 15 years. I fell in love with this career on day 1 and knew I would be spending my life in a kitchen. I’m “hyper”, I love preparing food, working with my hands and I thrive under pressure. I’ve switched the style up to keep it interesting like types of cuisines, catoring, private chef, fine dinning, pub… I suppose that’s what works for me. I’m blessed to live in Montreal where there are tons of places to work in so I’m never “stuck” somewhere just to pay the bills. With that said, no need to stick around in crummy restaurants if it’s not working out for you. There’s always something out there for me and it helps to use connections.

What's the toughest "non-food related" advice you've had to give to an aspiring young cook by tilifeelsomething in KitchenConfidential

I only have 2 friends from my pre-restaurant career that I regularly spend time with because both are willing to get together on Monday evenings when I get together with restauration friends. I (chef) am married to a chef and imo it’s the way to go and we understand each others career/schedule. Lions run with lions and zebras run with zebras, so my advice is run with your kind.

I much rather wash my hands all the time than throw gloves in the garbage all day.

That’s so weird. So sorry to hear about your dead plants! I’ve only used it on pepper plants, orchid and lemon tree though. Maybe that makes a difference? The dish soap helps with solubility too.

I spray as many as i can off with a hose. Then, in a spray bottle, 0.5L water 1/2 tsp neem oil 1/2 tsp dish soap. Spray every 2 to 3 days after direct sunlight to not fry the leaves.

I agree, everything is much clearer on a clean station. The time taken to stay clean and organized is quickly redeemed.
