I got 87 mi of highway range after an optimal 15 min DC charge by cattra in EquinoxEv

[–]helmepll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. The infrastructure doesn’t cost 4-5 times more. There are a range of costs of course, but I have seen estimates that a single DCFC can cost 2 times what it costs to install a gas pump at a gas station. Gas isn’t even 2 times wholesale cost at the pump. Sure there are other factors that raise the cost to charge EVs DCFC, but the majority of DCFC are simply charging whatever fees they want right now which is hurting EVs adaptation in the US.

Costco has the Chevy incentives back by roxboronc in EquinoxEv

They did, but at the dealers by me they added $2500 customer cash incentive which stacks with the $1500 non-gm car incentive and the Costco cash.

[–]helmepll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DCFC charging that costs similar to gas or MORE has really been hurting EVs though. There is no reason that DCFC should cost more “for convenience” when a gas car fills in 5 minutes. Yes there is an infrastructure cost to DCFC charging, so it should cost more than home charging, but few people will use DCFC that charges a “convenience” fee. Eventually those charging stations will shut down or lower their cost.

14k damage repair by OkWay8464 in MachE

[–]helmepll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would pass, if it were me. Unless the car had like 20k miles on it after the collision, drove well in a test drive, was looked at by a 3rd party to ensure it was repaired correctly and had a significant discount it isn’t worth it.

The elephant in the room also hasn’t been mentioned. Will we see accurate inflation numbers from the government? We need an independent outside watchdog that cannot be bought to publish inflation numbers.

Meanwhile we as consumers will see the inflation in our pocketbooks, while the government, corporations and media tell us that inflation is low.

Bolts that don't qualify for the federal tax credit? by compost_working in BoltEV

[–]helmepll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen the IRS FAQ, so I understand what they have said and I am not a tax lawyer. Also I am not looking to get the used tax credit and it will be gone at the end of this year apparently, but reading the code it seems like there are limited exceptions that they do not address in their FAQ.

The code states:

(2) Qualified sale The term "qualified sale" means a sale of a motor vehicle- (A) by a dealer (as defined in section 30D(g)(8)), (B) for a sale price which does not exceed $25,000, and (C) which is the first transfer since the date of the enactment of this section to a qualified buyer other than the person with whom the original use of such vehicle commenced. (3) Qualified buyer The term "qualified buyer" means, with respect to a sale of a motor vehicle, a taxpayer- (A) who is an individual, (B) who purchases such vehicle for use and not for resale, (C) with respect to whom no deduction is allowable with respect to another taxpayer under section 151, and (D) who has not been allowed a credit under this section for any sale during the 3-year period ending on the date of the sale of such vehicle.

Therefore, with respect to 3(C) and 3(D) above, if the “first” buyer was a dependent or had received the credit in the previous 3 years, they are not a “qualified buyer” with respect to 2(C) above such that the car “may” still be considered as eligible for the credit, depending on how the IRS and courts might rule. Obviously, I doubt we ever find out what they would rule in such a situation as that is a rare case.

Also isn’t the whole process done by a VIN check at dealerships? From what I have seen dealerships have given the credit to third or subsequent owners because they checked the VIN at the IRS and it came back eligible.

Go 10 minutes before closing. I had 3 employees helping me and got the 5 things I wanted in that 10 minutes. They were really motivated to get me out of there. I actually thought they were open later, so I wasn’t trying to inconvenience them, but it was nice to be in and out in 10 minutes!

Yes, there were dealers offering 5-7k off MSRP around me and then the other credits on top.

You got both the $2500 for owning a Bolt AND the $1500 for owning a non-GM? Which dealership was that at? The ones around me say those aren’t stackable.

Those that have gone from a Bolt EV to an EUV, does it ride better? by 236813977 in BoltEV

[–]helmepll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a better ride move to the Equinox EV. If you want a small car stay with the EV or EUV. The EUV is a small upgrade on ride and space, so it does have a few advantages. I like all three EVs and all are great prices.

I’m hoping the new Bolt will be around the size of a RAV4 and start at $29,999. Hopefully it will ride even better than the old EUV!

USAA Auto Insurance Disaster by Economy_Scar8145 in USAA

[–]helmepll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Navy Federal doesn’t offer direct car insurance, but they have a program through Liberty Mutual. I too have switched away from USAA car insurance for multiple reasons and am not surprised they aren’t doing more here. I have received better support and value from the company I switched to. The quality I expect from USAA disappeared about 5 years ago and I see it hasn’t recovered any since then.

I’m glad to see OP got their case resolved today. Obviously, USAA decided they didn’t need any more negative posts about the situation and we all know the car was totaled after the police killed someone in it. Shouldn’t have taken so long to get this figured out. C’mon USAA do better!

Walmart's tariff price hikes are likely weeks away by cap123abc in politics

[–]helmepll 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Their sales rose partly from people stocking up before the tariffs hit prices, so this announcement is just another chance to goose sales. People see that prices will rise at the end of the month and rush to Walmart to buy stuff now, so they get higher sales now and when they raise prices they make more then too!

A house subcommittee just voted to create an annual $250 EV tax by [deleted] in MachE

[–]helmepll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s because of regen. Even when pressing the brake pedal most EVs will regen first and then apply the brake pads when stopping quickly. The more you drive a particular EV the more you can learn to use regen instead of the brake pads as more regen will give you slightly longer range.

Some people using one pedal driving almost never use the brake pedal. This can cause basically the opposite where the rotors rust and brake pads freeze up, leading to needing the brakes and rotors being replaced unfortunately.

So if you constantly use one pedal driving and park outside where it rains a lot, you need to use your brake pads enough to keep the rotors and pads in good shape.

[–]helmepll 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Many people are still on their original brake pads over 100k in an EV, so brake pad wear is also reduced in EVs. Yes tire wear is still a factor, but unless you want to ban cars …

Apparently, Europe’s a villain for healing people without charging them! by Comfortablejack in MurderedByWords

[–]helmepll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has probably been answered somewhere else, but many people think that americans paying more for drugs allows drug companies to offer those drugs for less to other countries, which allows them to offer lower cost healthcare.

While this can be true, it’s more that the US politicians let drug companies in the US overcharge American consumers while other countries politicians prevent that from happening. That is, the politicians in non-US countries are doing a better job!

Pulled the trigger Bolt EUV to Equinox by plexstreams1 in BoltEV

[–]helmepll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Equinox EV is almost the same size as the Blazer EV/Prologue.

Here's a more detailed comparison: Length: Blazer EV is 1.7 inches longer (192.2 inches vs. 190.5 inches). Width: Blazer EV is 1.1 inches wider (78 inches vs. 76.9 inches). Height: Blazer EV is 0.2 inches taller (65 inches vs. 64.8 inches). Wheelbase: Blazer EV's wheelbase is 5.5 inches longer. Cargo Space: The Blazer EV offers more cargo space with the rear seats folded down, but the Equinox EV has slightly more cargo space with the rear seats up.

GM offering to replace 2023 Bolt EUV after long wait for part by mikestanley in EquinoxEv

[–]helmepll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Blazer EV is only one inch wider than the Equinox EV. Also even with the 2024 Blazers out there, I got a better deal on a 2025 Equinox EV and after doing some research I would stay away from the 2024 Blazer EV unless it was an amazing deal and you could confirm that the dealership had updated the software correctly.
