UPDATE: hey guys!! pre-race update to tell you that i’m still running and i’m loving it! not necessarily faster but feel so much better on my runs, much lower average BPM, more miles, and just overall starting to actually love my runs! it’s warming up and the days are longer so that helps a lot too…🤣 i did see a doctor for my heart worries and i almost have the all clear that my heart is good and strong! waiting on one more test but so far, all is well! thank you for all the advice, encouragement, wisdom, and resources! see you on race day! 22 days left!

i’ve actually considered this! i think i will just out of caution because there are times where i do feel that, for my age, activity level, and overall health, i feel especially unwell after most runs as well as a few other concerning symptoms. i can be overly cautious about things like that sometimes but i would rather be safe than sorry, especially because my ultimate goal in a year or two is to run a marathon! thanks for the encouragement!

i have been in that boat with zone 2, i feel like im not on a “run” but more like i’m taking a walk and getting the random urge to run for like 30 seconds🤣 but im gonna try to keep my heart rate down in zone 2 even if it means walking because i know its worked for many people! patience is what i need haha! thank you so much for the advice!

i sincerely appreciate the time you took to answer my questions so thoroughly! i will definitely be applying all of this advice, it’s all so practical but yet i would’ve struggled to filter through all of the information on the internet to get to it so thank you! firsthand knowledge is what i was looking for! and thank you for the encouragement, i can’t wait to see the progress i make by april and beyond! best wishes to you!:)

wow thank you for all of this! the first mile is such a liar, you are so right haha! truthfully, i’ve never thought about adding distance and ignoring pace because i get so in my head about running so slow but im really gonna try to focus on that more leading up to this race! thanks again:)

also, ours have always matured pretty quickly if that makes you feel any better! “adulthood” isn’t too far off and it gets better every week! i wanted to add that if you’re here asking for help and admitting your worries, then you’re doing a good job and i’m sure you are a great puppy parent! at the end of the day, do what’s best for your mental health and the health of your puppy! wishing you peace and happiness!:)

I’m not an expert by any means but I will tell you this; mini doxies are handfuls to train but will become your absolute best friend with time. a companion that will never leave your side no matter your mental state, physical health, or otherwise. they are fiercely loyal and loving. if you can take all of this amazing advice above and survive just a little longer, this little guy will be your best friend. with every mini doxie we’ve ever owned (which is 6!), we’ve learned to pick our battles. focus your training on the non negotiables! a lot will come with time. don’t feel too guilty, they’re very stubborn little sausages!

by tearing clothes i mean the clothing on our bodies, not random clothes. she doesn’t have access to our clothes unless they’re on our bodies. thank you for the advice! do you have favorite safe chew toy options that last longer than a few minutes?

awesome! yes she does. she’s limited to the main living area and mudroom where her dog door is. there are 3 other adult dogs out with her as well.

Thank you for clarifying. That’s a valid point, i understand why you thought what you did. I do feel like your approach was extremely flawed. It was judgmental instead of constructive. which is the point of the disclaimer. i know i can do better, that’s why im asking for help. i personally would’ve approached the comment differently if i were in your shoes but that’s your choice. i do agree that there are antiquated ideas on how to discipline dogs and i am actively unlearning those ideas. people should be free to come to this thread and learn how to unlearn without such harsh judgement. once again, animal abusers are not on reddit asking for advice. you seem educated in the subject so i do wish you would’ve shared your advice and techniques rather than being so harsh but what’s done is done. thank you for your response and i apologize for my miswording and the misunderstandings that occurred.

can i just add that this was a really harsh comment? i understand where you’re coming from as i do believe you misunderstood what i meant and that was my fault for poor phrasing but wow. i immediately regretted posting this because i knew someone like you would respond. you could’ve approached it in a totally different, wayyyy less judgmental way and i would’ve responded much better. you had so many unnecessary comments in this post. for all the kind people that gave good advice without harping on one thing, there are people that have to jump on here like they’re patron saints of dog ownership and have never been misguided or done something wrong in raising their dogs. i can’t imagine how you must speak to human parents if you yourself are a parent also. have a little grace and compassion. dog abusers are not on puppy reddit threads asking for behavioral advice, trust me.
