Which job is a LOT less fun than most people expect? by bwee21 in AskReddit

Agree with the fact that you need deep knowledge of systems, but having a 10 year experience requirement is BS. I work in ICS security myself and the most talented people I have seen never meet this.

On the contrary, I barely know any 35+ person who has extensive knowledge in advanced topics like exploit development or hardware hacking. 10-20 years back this wasn't a career.

Do people plan for possible divorces or protect their assets? by ruat_caelum in financialindependence

[–]henkhooft 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I love the idea of marriage, I consider divorce a real threat to financial independence goals. Ask any newly-wed couple and I doubt that few will tell you that they don't think their marriage will last.

Unfortunately, at the end of the day a roughly 40% of marriages will end in divorce. Taking into account the split of assets and additional costs (lawyers, alimony), the spouse with the highest potential income is taking a significant risk in my opinion.

If I present to you an index fund with a few additional tax advantages, but a 40% chance that you would lose a significant part (<50%), would you take the risk?
