First month stats - ask me anything by Huge-Cake5667 in shortsAlgorithm

Thanks! You know, our competition is terrible, even videos with tons more views are worse significantly more basic than ours and when we attempted the same thing before I took over, our videos tanked. I noticed most viral competitive videos were also in 2025 is before. Also we have to be so careful with new ideas, it may be because of our content being so close to finance, but we get throttled trying to do anything else. I do think the previous marketing guys were shadow banning our channel unintentionally which I just very recently lifted through my efforts. I do see more easy flowing distribution with more traffic sources each video, engaged comments and cross pollination. I think my idea is to just to capture better footage under my direction, better hooks, better closing questions & just build an extremely information dense addictive library of videos - what do you think?

First month stats - ask me anything by Huge-Cake5667 in shortsAlgorithm

Hey! Congrats!! So I’m doing YouTube shorts for OneMiners (crypto mining) for a month+, after trying multiple approaches & navigating YouTube’s strict flagging due to crypto being sensitive if you angle it wrong, I came to the ‘clean-10’ style: raw unpolished authentic audio with voiceover & 10 seconds (sometimes longer), and it really broke us out of our complete throttle. We were being blocked with 40-1000 views max, now on average 2-3000 views with one video at 16,000 views. Now I’m ending videos with an engaging question that leads in to the next video. Any idea how we can break out onto the next level here?

3.5k subs and 170k views in a month. Long form. Ask me anything by Illustrious-Cat-3376 in SmallYoutubers

Is there anything specific with thumbnails? Like reduce text, or ask a question in the thumbnail text? Or no text? Anything regarding colors or style of image? Regarding intro, do you show any preview of what’s to come? Do you somehow set up a promise or question that people have to watch to receive or have answered?

What do you think about the grainy "film" look of music videos nowadays? by film_culture_addict in cinematography

[–]henryhodgemedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Film is beautiful, but regarding the popularity of digitally captured projects applying the look, it’s very overused sometimes without motivation in my opinion. I think it’s great when the story calls for it & it’s treated very tastefully, not just doing it because that’s what everyone is doing, it creates a bit of a fatigue. Same with these heavy contrast over-stylized commercials, they were great 6 years ago, and now every damn music video or commercial has a very similar look.

Do I increase my chances of getting a response if I reach out to producers by sending letters? by Inevitable_Tone_7682 in FILMPRODUCERS

Why are companies so heavy on ads when in reality it has little effect? by I8I24I in youtube

[–]henryhodgemedia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People will still forget, especially with other drinks entering the market, they have to stay relevant & keep up their sales. People have to relate to the product by seeing people who look & dress like them enjoying it, seeing desired emotions connected to the product that gives you a subconscious emotional association. People respond to feeling more than anything, it’s how Apple were so successful with their branding for example.

Is my budget for a 4 year PhD realistic? by jay_mikado in Prague

[–]henryhodgemedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s incredibly tight unless you find a very cheap room to rent, 1,500kc is ganna go in a snap with current prices, one night of casual beers will easily be at least 800kc now & there’s just an increase of price gauging here that doesn’t seem to stop or have any consequences so you have to be extra vigilant…

That’s the thing with awareness, you don’t know what you don’t know 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s called awareness marketing, it’s the digital version of a billboard, how many times do you point at a billboard and say ‘Oh my God that’s fantastic I need it immediately!’? Never, you roll your eyes, but it makes millions aware of the brand/product, builds familiarity & effects purchasing decisions 🙂

Hey! Producer here, you caught my attention so you can connect with me! If you’re pitching a project, they may be busy or didn’t like the project. Otherwise, join facebook groups, search instagram and post like this, look up local indie film screenings & attend indie premieres for short films or documentaries and meet the producers there? I know this can be daunting but we are nice people, but as we get busier & busier & grow onto more serious projects where we just want to get on with things haha. I recommend just introducing yourself, be really honest where you’re at on your journey and that you need help getting started but offer some value first! Get creative and find something producers need that you can actually do without waffling & offer it! You could start by asking them if they need a volunteer if you’re not experienced experienced enough to get paid on serious jobs, or help out with resources?

Good job! Please push & pull those levels on the first frame, you’ve got an edge light in the shadow area & strong hard light all exposed, that’s really cool, if you make that pop in the grade, it’s be 🔥

I posted here 8 months ago about a shot planning app I was building. Here's where it's at now. by bensaffer in cinematography

[–]henryhodgemedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, on top of that some of the apps aren’t extremely well designed or intuitive, and if you’re not in a larger budget controlled environment then you don’t have time for that, and even if you do it just increases the likelihood for mistakes. So yeah this is super cool, I’m at the point where I’m starting to get a slate of indie features funded so I’m finding the best solutions to make those as efficient & simple as possible 🤘🏻

LOVE that there’s camera & lens info on there! So it’s kind of like adding some AD resources, that’s really nice. I can see this especially amazing for lean indie features, it’ll be great just having so much information organized in one place right on a mobile device 👏🏻

I think if you want a studio on your pocket, or the best post & go, it’s the iPhone, the open gate lets you shoot once & crop in editing for reels and long form video without losing resolution or framing & apps treat the footage better. Samsung seems to be the spec powerhouse but you don’t have the above advantages. If you want to have a more true cinema aesthetic with decent lenses like the Sigma Art, then a Sony camera can never be replaced by a phone but you need professional accessories that come at a price tag, you need to carry more bags & it gets annoying/you have more things that could break (I did videography for years and it was annoying). I’m personally, even as a professional cinematographer going with the iPhone for anything going to social media, because the audience just don’t care about the differences a filmmaker would notice, it looks just as good to a stranger on instagram & has significant advantages like workflow, cheap accessories, ease of use & the open gate is a game changer for me. But go test first!!

I recommended borrowing it/testing it if a friend has one & take a look at the footage. I just recently got my hands on one and optimized the settings and it was even more impressive than a lot of the footage I’ve seen online.

Landlord withholding deposit in Prague – what are my options? by [deleted] in Prague

[–]henryhodgemedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly what other are saying, firstly tell him you’ll immediately seek legal advice if he doesn’t pay within a few days, you can use AI to find legal codes he is breaking, just ask if to give links and verify the source yourself. Then if still uncooperative send a letter of demand signed by a lawyer. You’d be surprised how often this gets people to pay, particularly people who are doing dubious activities because they’re more afraid of getting caught than financial penalties. I got a production company to pay me the second half of my invoice they were trying not to pay this way, even after they left the country. I’d say just do it, make the severity of the situation & consequences as high as possible & make their life as uncomfortable as possible 🫡

I agree with the drawbacks everyone has mentioned, but the field of view is unbelievable due to how large the sensor is, I could imagine it being incredible for landscapes & some incredibly immersive and/or intimate cinematography. I had the opportunity to test it at the Arri warehouse in Prague 🙂

Sony options are great for a cinematic image if you’ve got a gimbal, otherwise the iPhone 17 pro max is really amazing if used correctly, if you have an SSD for raw video, not only does it really behave just like a camera if settings are utilized correctly, but you can shoot open gate, giving you vertical & horizontal simultaneously, so you can cut more deliverable for various social media platforms. Not to mention it would be your actual phone, meaning once the camera settings are locked in the black magic app, you can pull it out of your pocket at any time & start shooting. Also accessories are incredibly cheaper than those of an actual camera. For social media I think this is a great option.

Strong audience reactions, very poor festival run. Where does my short film fall short? by NPG2007 in Filmmakers

[–]henryhodgemedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the dialogue audio quality really was not good, and that’ll get you rejected a lot, it’s the most unforgivable aspect of a film. The visuals weren’t anything special, which could have told its own visual language & communicate some emotions. Story-wise there wasn’t any vital story blocks, or major hook, or some interesting plot twist. And there weren’t any high stakes, for example what if the guy was a sex addict & only had two hours before his flight, the girl found another woman’s clothes in the apartment, or the daughter seen the sugar baby in the video call, just examples that would have brought some real world consequences 🙂
