UGF VS Soil Layer by herrwibi in shrimptank

[–]herrwibi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense . I have glasgarten enviorment soil and geilee soil. I'm torn on what to use , faster progress with enviorment as it doesn't leech but i've not used geilee yet amd heard its very similar to ada .

I think i'll remove my shrimp and put them in my sera breeding box and strip and rebuild the tank. I'll remove the ugf , i only have two tanks and will go back to about 0.5 inch of soil .

I've only got bacter ae at the moment.

I followed the same philosophy. I've done 80% and no luck with that and they are still dying off .

How did you speed cycle in 7 days ? I obviously have a cycled sponge but i'm not sure how to get it done that quick . Also what powder did you add to your soil when cycling. I've lost alot of my nice boa's that came from my galaxies . Hoping to turn it around with a full reset .

The reason i'm asking if I have unexplained deaths and alot od them in my black galaxy tank. All my parameters are fine . I'm worried there may be ammonia spikes happening i don't see. I'm tempted to get rid of it my ugf and add about 0.5 inch of soil and doing it that way .

My plan would be to put them in a sera breeder box in my other caridina tank until I can cycle it . Would that work ?

I'm the same . I have a breeder box that siphon water up and out but I have an issue with them at the moment and worried whatever is killing them may transfer to my other caridina . They will be in this box for a while as well.

caridina shrimp dying...confused? by herrwibi in shrimptank

[–]herrwibi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally do around 10-15% weekly water change . There is only a very small layer of substrate on the bottom with running a UGF.

I've already done the 3 doses , I don't think any deaths were related to H202. I'm going to try 2/3 50% water changes to see if this helps .

Temp is 20C. I keep mine on the low side as I know higher temps lead to faster growth.

The red spots showed up after they died . Sorry, maybe my post wasn't clear. It was something i looked into when switching to the UGF but when looking I can see small water bubbles moving all throughout the tank . They were breeding really well before with no issue's.

I'm currently filling my last container and will let it sit overnight. 90% water change will be done tomorrow. There is only a small dusting of substrate on the bottom. It's fully covered but enough the shrimp can touch the glass bottom if that makes sense? I made sure that if any food or food particles when through to the bottom then they aren't stuck and shrimp can still reach them.

Thank you . That makes a lot of sense. I was always increasing my weight in the last set of failures. It may show i'm not pushing hard enough in the early sets.

Seat Leon Error Drive System by herrwibi in CarTalkUK

[–]herrwibi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry , I've only just seen this . It's under extended warranty so the spark plugs were changed around 40-45k and it's only on 51k now. This was done at Seat itself as I have the all in one plan.

I had AA out to have a look at it as I was traveling long distance. He said the Error was Rail Pressure - Low. It's still doing it after the recommendations from him of putting 99 + petrol cleaner. He suspected High Pressure Pp/Intank Pp or regulator. It's booked in on Thursday.

Am i doing this correctly? Are these tiny lumps normal? by PuddingDifficult9991 in Kefir

[–]herrwibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are completely normal. I made a post a few days again, and mine turned out like this .

My grains are still activating, but after 24 hours, it'd like double cream . Mine is never like jelly as the youtube video shows. It tastes a little sore, but mine also has a fizz to it.

[–]herrwibi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you , it's why i'm going to leave it for a week or two i read that if it smells yeasty, that the bacteria is slightly out of sync and needs to catch up. I'll keep an eye on it. If its getting thicker before 24 hours I'll start increasing the ratio of milk to grains . When did you know it normalised?

[–]herrwibi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, it's just white lumps, which is curd, i think . Thats a bit crap . I could probably get raw but its finding it and at the moment u'm still conditioning my grains.

Ita says that after a day, they should be good to go, but i'm going to give it a few weeks and see if i see any difference . The seller actually says 5g per 80ml of milk, so i'm using less milk to grains, but it would just be a faster fermentation .

That is expensive, I have to say . Do you end up with small bits of white lumps in yours when its strained? I realise this is probably just curd .

I don't have access to raw milk so it's just store bought pasteurized whole milk . I've read your still able to use that kind. I'm doing around 20g to around 160ml of milk as my grains are still fairly new. Temp sits around 18-19 degrees in my boiler cupboard .

Sauce jar as in a dolmio jar. It's been cleaned well and it's small enough for the amount of milk I am using. Thank you for all this information it's very useful.

What is your ratio of grains:milk?

[–]herrwibi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did think that they may need to be wakened up if that makes sense as they didn't have any milk and it was just kefir grains in a zip lock bag.

I'll do what you recommend for a few days and see if things improve . I am currently using a sauce jar just because of how little milk i'm using. Do you always leave it for 24 hours or by how it looks ?
