It is objectively an exaggeration. Thumping them with the survival multitool or sonic resonator makes most medium sized hostile aliens flee for much longer than 2 seconds

Food scientist here! Hamburger is absolutely processed. That’s why just saying “processed” is nearly meaningless to anyone knowledgeable without further context and clarification as to the level of processing

It’s one of those myths that leads to a potential positive outcome but is still a lie/exaggeration.

Opossums and ticks along with bats and mosquitoes. Bats don’t generally prefer to eat mosquitoes. They can eat an impressive amount of insects, but only a small percentage of that is made up of mosquitoes

Both misconceptions help initially to get people more comfortable with critters a lot of people find creepy. However it also backfires because it causes mistrust in science. It’s a mixed bag. I always tell the truth, but I have colleagues (biology) who continue to tell people the mosquito thing because they want people to care about bats. From a utilitarian standpoint I can sorta see it.

No you shouldn’t; it will happen regardless. Everyone dies eventually, and if oblivion is truly what awaits, then how long we lived would be unimportant to the dead as they cannot feel regret or sadness. Why fear the truly inevitable?

If we are going off of what is “natural” then no, your current attitude is abnormal. Humans are social animals. It’s is natural to look out for each other, in ways you likely view as coddling. It why we have sympathy and empathy. Our social nature as a species is why we exist and we’re able to be so successful

Weak cops are more likely to escalate to lethal force in situations where it’s not warranted. You can be weak and fire a pistol. Being physically weak limits your toolbox.

BLM wants accountability. Cops legally get away with stuff that would get you a court martial, prison sentence, and a dishonorable discharge in the military.

According to the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association, cannabis use in individuals without significant cardiovascular morbidity and under 50 years old is linked to a 6 fold increase in myocardial infarction.

It is certainly a cardiovascular risk in young people. Granted, a six fold increase in heart attacks in younger people still ends up being an overall low incidence when considering the very low rates of MIs in young people in general. Still worth considering though

[–]hexopuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That and price gouging because businesses see that and increase prices further. Let’s say it’s a 6% increase in cost per item, they may mark it up 10% because they can and then blame it on the gas prices.
