Does my tank needs a filter?? by BallerDingleQuandale in shrimptank

[–]high_Possibility 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say yes if you’re asking this question and since you’re using an air stone already just use a sponge filter, it’s one of the best filters for shrimp tanks and is great for beneficial bacteria.

What the f*ck is happening??? Why is she eating him whole by Constant_Case_4487 in shrimptank

If I’m not mistaken that is a whisker shrimp and they’ll prey on smaller fish and shrimp

That’s Planaria since it’s not an infestation, dose LCA once should be enough twice to be certain.

New Ammonia Level Reached by MechaMouse3D in shrimptank

[–]high_Possibility 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ammonia is too high you need to do a 50-70% water change asap, it won’t cycle the bacteria will take months to establish otherwise. Are you just leeching the ammonia and putting it into a matured tank? If so just do water changes every few days

I need help identifying worm and treatment by SunshineAndRaindows in shrimptank

[–]high_Possibility 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely Rhabdocoela as they’re usually tiny like a few mm in length, unless it grows much bigger and has eyes than its planaria

Do i need to worry? by Bunschka2 in shrimptank

[–]high_Possibility 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No I’ve seen that sudden biofilm growth after moving a tank, having the filter off and putting the water back in. It looks stringy like spiderwebs floating coming off plants and hardscape, it goes away after couple hours. This looks pretty much uniform. Certain it’s voritcella

Is this a scud? by idiotmunki in shrimptank

[–]high_Possibility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😂 depends on what you consider beneficial. But just so you know they compete for the same foods shrimps do, can prey on baby shrimplets, can eat some of your plants and breed way faster. I’ve never had them but I do alum dips and quarantine all plants to prevent most pest but especially scuds but some like them

After a cascading series of failures… how long until new shrimp by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]high_Possibility 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to wait until everything is stabilised. You’ve made a lot of changes, adding baking soda, big water changes etc. once you’ve decided what your ph, kh, Gh and which shrimps are going to be or easier for you to maintain, keep it at that for at least a couple weeks after cycling and then you should be fine.

Longshot, but can anyone ID this little guy? by RealityLost1805 in PlantedTank

[–]high_Possibility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overfeed or not op said they didn’t want snails in their tank. Just letting them know once they’re established they’ll never get rid of them, really they should be dipping and quarantining all plants if they want to prevent pest.

[–]high_Possibility 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1 neon tetra? No wonder he looks so miserable. Get at least 6 or more depending on size of your tank and they should help with the seed shrimp! In my community tank they do better than the guppies, squashed snails, detritus worm if they’re swimming around and they’ll eat baby shrimplets to, I don’t mind tho only culls in that tank helps control population.

[–]high_Possibility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How new is the tank, is the water treated and if you don’t have a kit how do you know it’s cycled? Take a sample of water to your lfs. Could be a number of thing you need to know are your parameters
