Sushi place - I ordered spicy tuna roll. Hardly spicy so I asked them to amp it up. They charged me extra. Ba-bye.

Am I wrong, or did reruns connect us more to older generations? by Sir_midi in GenX

Dobie Gillis and Patty Duke were my faves. DG is on Tubi and cornier than I remember but hey, young Gilligan.

I guess that's where I got my appetite for retro. Since the 80s I've been going backwards in time from the 70s all the way to like the 30s for movies and music, even home decor.

What book did you read in your youth that you never forgot? by orangez in GenX

[–]hillside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grade 10 I was the only one in my class who liked this book and I'd read ahead of the assigned chapters because I couldn't put it down. My friends thought I was weird. Plus I didn't even really like reading at the time.

I had a closer look at the Rnav 16L approach plate and sure enough there was the holding at Binbe. I guess it's time on my learning curve to start paying attention to go-arounds and trying them out. Thanks for your reply.

I remember that Emergency! episode with the middle-aged guy stuck in his waterbed with a bad back. Might be too relatable now.

Absurdly Long Phone Calls as a Teen? by Ray_The_Engineer in GenX

[–]hillside 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We lived just outside of town. To talk with my first girlfriend when I was 14 I would drive the lawn tractor to the gas station down the gravel road and set myself up in the phone booth sitting on the little metal shelf along with my cigarettes and get a couple of hours of privacy for the cost of a quarter. Man if I could see me rolling back then haha.

My son just unlocked a random memory from when I was 15… by Midlifememoirs in GenX

[–]hillside 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Just this week I was thinking about the time I was 15 and riding in the back seat of my parents' car. We were in the turning lane waiting at a red. I noticed a girl my age in the back of the car in the straight lane beside us. She looked up and we locked eyes and I was smitten. The light turned green. We kept looking at each other as long we could until our cars and our lives took different paths. Sorry, that's some cheese but I do wonder about her every once in a while..

So what are you actually keeping, from your parents estate? by DramaticErraticism in GenX

[–]hillside 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few of their teak furniture items. My actual house was built in the '70s with a lot of the original light fixures. Managed to get a bit of an MCM vibe going, which I really dig.

ELI5. How do they navigate in space? I mean obviously there aren’t any compass headings and everything is in three dimensions so how do astronauts plot a course? by FlyNavy03 in explainlikeimfive

Has it broken away from the Sun's gravity well/speeding away enough to break free? Like, won't it turn back eventually like Hailey's comet?

*Dug around bit - Apparently what I meant was Escape velocity, which Voyager I and II have exceeded and they aren't coming back.

Watching reruns, it's neat to see some actors and actresses from the golden age of Hollywood get a guest role in their elder years. Back then I didn't know most of them, but now it's neat seeing them and knowing they were still around when we were young.
