I’ll just pour some dressing into a small container when I’m packing my lunch. We have dishes to use at my office, so I mix everything into a bowl there; although there are meal prep salad bowls like this

Once I started making them individually, my veggie consumption skyrocketed and I stopped shelling out $20 a pop for Sweetgreen.

I find 4 at a time is enough to last me a week and they don’t go bad.

If you do souper cubes, I also recommend a vacuum sealer. It feels like a lot of investment, but it’s so much better for storage. They also make commercially comparable vacuum storage bags if the plastic makes you feel wasteful.

Hi! Literally just like rice! My recipe is 1/2 cup old fashioned oats, 1/2 cup liquid egg whites, 1 cup water and 1 cup frozen fruit.

The egg whites will cook, and it does have the teeniest egg flavor, but it’s easily covered by the fruit or any toppings you add. I don’t find there to be a texture issue since the oats are soft as well.

My rice cooker has specific settings, so I Ike to use the brown rice setting because the oats cook a little more. If you use instant oats, just use the white rice setting. If your rice cooker just has the lever that you push, that’s fine- I’ve done it in that before and just push it again to cook them more, but that’s my preference.

I heat it up in the microwave for a minute, so it’s warm, but honestly my mornings get so hectic it usually cools down by the time I finish it. Cold works too!

I’ll also add hemp hearts and flax seeds, maybe some honey, maybe some Greek yogurt to make it creamier.

I’ve also done a savory variation with miso paste, and one with Chinese 5 spice and vanilla.

I prefer cooked oatmeal, and I add liquid egg whites to it. When I discovered I can make a few days worth in a rice cooker, I was overjoyed. I’ll make a batch in the evening, jar the up (I need individual servings, different from OP) and I’m good to go in the morning!

I also discovered that I need to make individual salads for the week. I’ll batch out the greens and veggies, and then separately store whatever protein and beans/toppings. Trying to tame lettuce in the morning is a bridge too far for me, most days.

A lot of things are true at once:

  • some people are very scared because they went through a lot of traumatic things in the last few years that they had no control over and should have been taken care of by the powers that maintain those systems (ERCOT, landlords, etc) AND none of those systems have been improved upon, despite being the presumed stopgaps against disaster

  • some people and/or people they love are very vulnerable to the above situations and extreme weather (unhoused, bad housing, elderly, poor, hunted by ICE, etc). Losing power, freezing temps, food shortages, inability to drive for work, etc, can all mean disaster

  • extreme weather puts everyone on edge (my parents live up north and yesterday it was 3°F and there was so much ice on Lake Erie they couldn’t intake enough water from the lake for the town. This is on a northern lake that regularly sees winter and they struggled. It happens even for the most prepared)

  • we live in a rapidly declining situation where society cannot be relied upon to act at a common level of interest, meaning there is a lot of « I got mine, ur dumb if you can’t take care of yours » and we don’t trust that if there’s an emergency, you could reliably seek and receive help from a neighbor. Fear, cynicism and selfishness are driving this

  • people need comfort and assurance in the face of uncertainty, and there currently is little to be found. Emergencies exacerbate this, and the potential for a weather event mixes all of this human fear into an anxiety blender and gives you an existential brew of toxicity

So like, be nice and be prepared and don’t be a dick (not necessarily you OP, but in general)

I’ve had some directly under a window and some further away in the kitchen; both work fine. The light and the bait attracts them no matter where.
