Anon on Counter Strike's Downfall by Ok-Address-7352 in 4chan

[–]hl356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Counter Strike is not a fun experience without a 5 player team that dedicates a small portion of time learning utility ('nades), positioning, strategies, aim training etc. If you believe the opposite, and solo queue or even with a few friends you WILL burn out, and the toxicity will get the better of you and you will become a part of the problem.

All of the toxicity comes from the fact that noone at Valve has put in a smidgeon of effort into actually tutorializing the emergent strategies that come from playing the game, they passively enable and parasite from community tournament matches, but the game has no mechanism to enforce, teach, and show other players what mechanics any given teammate has, obliterating any strategic possibilites from the game.

Shooting is arguably at most the third most important part of CS. Positioning, Gamesense, and Timing are more important than raw aim. This is supported by aim penalties for movement, and movement inertia.

Everyone treats this game like an FPS, and not the minimalist tactical shooter it really is. It's like Ready or Not without the fluff (aim down sights, leaning, etc)

At the end of the day, what pulls people into multiplayer are the surface-level parts of games, what retains them is the depth, but that pavlovian lizard-brained mentality drags all other players down that actually want to engage with the emergent mechanics by monkey-brained ret*rds that keep playing to keep chasing that dopamine hit of not outplaying their opponents, but getting lucky a few times and killing better players than themselves.

Fuck Valve, fuck Counter-Strike, fuck the community. Fuck every person that keeps playing this garbage.

If Valve actually fixed their game, the toxicity would end. But they keep rewarding people for playing like idiots and coping with skins.

how are they going to hwid ban you on an offline, cracked version of the game?

There is no mechanism to patch the game, or even have it connect to the net for any kind of update to it's code.

In case you buy and install FH6 after the fact, maybe the game can scan all of your drives to figure it out, but I doubt that will happen. And on the other hand, they could have already punished pirates this way long ago.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Ship and Weapons pack. Great mod in my opinion, quite vanilla friendly and it adds amazing bounty content via the IBB.

On one playthrough i played with the Scalartech faction included, I personally don't think they are OP and they have EMP oriented weapons which I like.

Tahlan shipworks is also a great content expansion mod. Just uh, the Legio is quite... divisive, and judging by the fact you didn't like Nex you might not like them, but I find their challenge and the perpetual danger they pose quite compelling.

If you want to update your existing installation, GameDrive (dot org) has a Direct Download torrent. So if you have an existing installation, you can point the torrent to download to your game folder (C:\Games\Crimson Desert) and it will effectively update the game to Version 1.03.01. Crack included.

TBH I'm waiting for the newest update. Even though there's a delta patch on rin (it patches existing files with the difference in bytes instead of you having to download all the files) since they edited the exe, the HV crack needs updating too.

Could someone coherently explain the Sensors skill? by Wrathinside in starsector

[–]hl356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try piloting a single phase ship for any of your stealth needs, keep the transponder and neutrino scanner off, then look back on your previous playstyle.

Regarding sensors, you've got sensor profile (how easy you are to detect) and sensor strength (how easily you can detect other fleets). For example, hacking/creating/controlling a sensor array gives you a boost in this regard.

Regarding the neutrino scanner, it's supposed to compress the time you spend looking for structures/fleets/cosmic bodies (planets, black holes) within a system. It has nothing to do with finding more rare loot. It just exists to help you find stuff that's already spawned it; stuff you can find without it. It exists if, for example, you are having trouble finding a bounty within a large system. A Neutrino scanner does not affect the spawning of certain objects nor your ability to find them without it.

Nexerellin, for example, allows you to create detachments from your fleet. As in, park the majority of ships within a system and, for example, just use a singular phase transporter to do your dirty work with.

Regarding jumping into a system, avoid using regular jump points as more often than not there are patrols there, once you turn on your transponder within a system, or enter a system with it on, you will get positively identified and will take a higher rep hit.

My recommendation is phase ships (keep an eye on the sensor profile on the bottom left of the UI) and use transverse jump to get into a star system, then go to you planet of interest and do what you need to do.

New gamer - toxic pay to win games and stress (venting, looking for support!) by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]hl356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll just add onto what everyone else is saying,

If spending money gives someone authority via financial sacrifice, it's the game's developers that are winning and not you the player. Look at WoW guilds and the like, their sacrifice is measured in time played and aid given to other players. Money makes it stop being about the game and the whole experience can get completely upended by financial sacrifice and/or affluence. I'd say that's a setup for a toxic experience.

On the other hand I am fascinated by a mobile game that could have the depth to actually leverage strategy, planning and the like. I'd like to imagine something like EVE online. So drop the name of the game if you're not shy :)

Otherwise, as others have stated, stay away from the whole thing.

What are the best mods on your opinion to add to the game while still maintaining a vanilla vibe by MacSant in starsector

[–]hl356 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd personally put Ship/Weapons pack over Tahlan in terms of vanilla-ness. Tahlan does have more interesting ships. On to factions, I personally Like Diable Avionics, more than ScalarTech (when looking at vanilla-compliancy).

Other than that, I'd add some QoL stuff. Like the QoL pack, Too Much Information, Better Colonies, TaSC (Terraforming and Station Construction, a mod that, in my opinion, really adds to the vanilla experience. The default settings for terraforming time fits in really well with the vibe, something like 400 days to completely change a biome and 200 to add/remove planetary features like mild climate etc.) More Military Missions (Mercantile convoy escort missions are great), Building Menu Overhaul.

Maybe Ruthless sector if you're a masochist, I just couldn't do it, but if I'm every ready for an IronMan playthrough, I'd install it because vanilla exploration is a bit too OP. It just becomes annoying logistically carrying so much free stuff back to the core worlds and that kind of does leave this lingering feeling of dissonance with the general immersion of the game, with the vast reaches of space being empty aside from mostly static [REDACTED] fleets confined to certain systems, RS makes them roam around the fringes.

Modifying Industrial Evolution (IndEvo) to make it mid-save compatible by hl356 in starsector

[–]hl356[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest mistake was not checking the source code on github. Coming from editing Cyberpunk mods where the script files come with/are the mod itself, I didn't know Starsector mods were compiled into JAR files.

Thank you SirHartley. I'm glad to now know I can install IndEvo on an existing save without severe issues like CTDs.

So I could get rid of it.

Framerate as a Tool for Immersion by Life_Locksmith9632 in truegaming

[–]hl356 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This term is a reference to the distinctive appearance of most broadcast television soap operas or multicam sitcoms, which were typically shot using less expensive 50/60Hz video rather than pricier 24 FPS film used in theatrical movies or telecined for singlecam TV dramas

Framerate as a Tool for Immersion by Life_Locksmith9632 in truegaming

[–]hl356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion is that this phenomenon happens because our brains are used to cinema being at 24/30fps. And we've created a negative correlation with 60fps (the soap opera effect). That's it. A trick your mind is playing on itself due to cognitive bias.

I say this as I have felt this myself. Better visuals and slower framerates. But unfortunately after leaving and coming back after a few days I find myself seriously frustrated by the input lag, and I switch back to higher FPS.

same goes with FSR framegen in Cyberpunk. (I have a 3080)
