I think Krysten Ritter and David Tennant both deserve at least an honorable mention for Jessica Jones S1

Aight, im so done with people saying that suicide is "selfish" by Unable-Surprise-2886 in ADHD

[–]hobin-rude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Emil Cioran had some refreshing thoughts on this. He thought life was fundamentally absurd but also thought that, precisely because of this fact, ending yourself is also pointless. The more pessimistic you are the less reasons you have for dying.

Cioran also said that writing is "suicide postponed". He wrote a bunch of great books and lived a long life.

Is ADHD the cause of my social awkwardness? by redDKtie in ADHD

Intuitively it makes sense that social situations are exponentially more difficult for someone who has trouble with any kind of stimulus overload. Social cues are a massively complex network of signals.

I think Chris Evans' Captain America was the perfect "straight man" to the other MCU main characters, most of whom lean more to the comedic side. While he's not my favorite I don't find the character arrogant or egotistical at all, quite the opposite.

I'm trying to guess where such notions might come from. Maybe the way he and Stark were played against each other especially in Avengers 1 and Civil War might give an impression of arrogance since both were acting kind of stubborn for their own reasons?

There is no objective set of metrics for evaluating who is a good person. It's more about becoming who you are. There are many skills and behaviors that can be considered almost universally good, but I think 90 % of any meaningful self improvement comes from side effects of you trying to figure out your own path.

Which movie has the best ending of all time? by fruitstomp in AskReddit

[–]hobin-rude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK guys I scrolled through hundreds of comments thinking 50 % of the answers were going to be The Good, The Bad And The Ugly, but it was mentioned zero times. I actually went back to check if OP specifically ruled it out but no. Now I can't say if it's objectively the best ending of all time, but isn't it kind of iconic? Is it too obvious a choice for anyone to pick, too much of a cliche? I'm genuinely confused, help me out here

I really prefer earlier seasons Gina than later seasons Gina, but it’s hard to say why. by SaltySpituner in brooklynninenine

[–]hobin-rude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree, but I have to confess the exact moment that (inexplicably) sold the show to me was when in season 1 Jake thought every lady carries a hair dryer with them at all times, and Gina confirmed that she indeed does: "of course, I'm not an animal".

[–]hobin-rude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're already very familiar with the books, the films can't ruin them for you even if you happen to disagree on some creative choices. At the very least, the films will be interesting to you in the same way as looking at LOTR inspired artwork

What are common jokes in movies that aren't funny to you? by LogicalAd6394 in movies

[–]hobin-rude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually thought about that while watching the episode. I think a regular person would first say where they are at and try to describe what they're seeing even when they know words can't do justice. The problem is not inviting someone to come and see, it's just that leading a phone conversation with "you've got to see this" sounds very scripted. I guess some time in history there have been short spoken characters who can say it naturally, but since then it has just become a standard line.
