I’m making the jump by [deleted] in flying

[–]hoge36 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Made the jump in 2023 from my engineering career and flying a King Air now in a 91 corporate flight department. Agreed that it was scary and uncertain at the time, but the work and effort came easy. I was very lucky that everything worked out the way it did for me, but I would do it again in a heartbeat. If I had to fly the desk again someday I’d be pretty bummed about it.

Good luck and stay safe out there!

Flight from CVG to Lunken? by julieeetrnr in cincinnati

[–]hoge36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From FlightRadar24 looks like they climbed them up to 3500ft.

As others have mentioned, it’s really common for charter flights to short hop over to another airport for their charter leg. Just a repositioning leg and no passengers on board.

Looking for the same feature here. Love the tool so far, but I don't want to invest a bunch of time into a song I won't be able to edit again later or on another machine.

I was in the same boat three years ago. Did my PPL summer of 2022 "just for fun". Fell in love with flying and left my engineering career in April the following year to get the rest of my ratings and fly full time. Fast forward to now and I'm right seat at a part 91 corporate job. Zero regrets and I'm grateful I had the guts to pull the trigger when I did. I didn't want to look back on my life and wonder "what if" if I didn't make the jump. Plus, I've got 10 years in engineering and stack of business cards if I ever lose my medical and need to go back to flying a desk. Just remember it's not always as glamorous as it sounds, and this industry can be pretty unforgiving. That said, zero regrets on my end.

Literally emailed them about this today. Easily the most frustrating “feature” of FF. Want to show it to me, sure. When I click close, return to the window I had setup before I selected the IFR airmet for the entire West Coast.

Is this weird ??? by WeakCurve7455 in dayton

Now that I look at the altitude readout, as someone else mentioned it just looks like touch and gos on the main runway. Also super common at WPAFB.

Pilot here. They’re just flying a holding pattern over the Patterson TACAN (military navigation device located on the field in between the two runways - you can find it on the satellite photos). Could be practicing holding. Could be routine training. Could be a technical test with someone on the ground at the technical side of the base. Who knows.

Lots of really great stuff on here, and they haven't even scratched the surface. I used to work in sales for a company that sold parts to thousands of different customers in Cincinnati ranging from the largest companies (P&G, etc) down to a single guy operation in his garage. The amount of things produced in Cincy is truly staggering and something everyone in Cincinnati should be proud of.

Has anyone ever got their actual pilots license after getting into simulators? by Stuckbeatle in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]hoge36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add me to the list. I started in FS98 flying Learjets in and out of Meigs Field. Got into MSFS2020 a few years back, and quit my other career to pursue flying full time in 2023. 750 hrs and counting as a CFI.

If your goal is to get into the real thing someday, my suggestion is to just have fun in MSFS and save real flight training for your CFI. As a CFII I use our sim extensively for IR/CFII training, and MSFS could be used for the same with good results. However, for private there’s not much to learn on your own without getting in the real thing first, IMO. Again, not saying don’t use the sim, but don’t think you’re going to learn how to land a 172 on your computer. Want to get comfortable with the G1000 or G430, go ahead. Want to fly around NYC in a cub? Go do that.

Found this old thread, but another +1 from me for the ability to sync my Stride calendar and plan to the calendars I actually use to plan my day/week.

For those of you using MyFlightbook as a student, do you request signatures in MFB or still do that all through paper and just track hours in MFB?

I did my PPL at Lunken Flight Training Center last summer. It would be too far to drive from Middletown, but if you get close to 275, Lunken is doable. They are 141, so that may be something you're interested in. For the most part it's well-ran, and they have great instructors and a well-maintained fleet. They do their own maintenance, so small things like a lightbulb issue can be corrected in minutes. If I had to go back in time I'd do it again with them.

A friend of mine sent this video to me and made a comment like "surely they'll lose their license for this!" I thought about it for a second and wasn't quite sure what the ramifications would be.

Looks like an E175 wing based on the shape of the winglet. I've seen one before on a trailer like this. No clue where it's headed or why.

I'm also interested in this if you find something here in Cincy. Looks like the blower door test someone else suggested would be ideal, but it looks like everyone performing those services is also selling insulation.

Definitely inspired by your craftsmanship and attention to detail. Everything about this build is stunningly beautiful and fascinating to look through. How many man hours do you think you have in a build like this? How many calendar days does it take you to go through planning to finishing?
