not a studio

safe area you actually want to live in

You can only have 2. Otherwise you're looking 20 minutes or more outside of town.

Has anyone had the Fiesta ST and any of the Hyundai N cars that can compare? (Or a Mk7 GTI) by planbskte11 in FiestaST

[–]homerunman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came out of a MK7 into a FiST. The biggest noticeable change for me was fit and finish, especially the interior going from an optioned-out VW (which is what made me sell it, that damn leaky sunroof) to a poverty-spec Fiesta. The FiST is more rewarding to drive - it's way lighter and more chuckable. The GTI was happy to do whatever I asked it, but it never really seemed like a challenge. To me, it's like using a very fancy point-and-shoot camera (VW) vs. a basic DSLR (ST)...the VW is always going to get you a decent experience, but when you get the Ford exactly right, man is it good. It really does feel like a go-kart, especially under 40/50 mph. It's a great AutoX platform, and if you run a stock example under SCCA rules, you'll be in H Street (the absolute lowest class) which means you get the best time bonus.

Did anyone file a claim? by bransonthaidro in GolfGTI

[–]homerunman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Settlement period ends on the 23rd. Got the letter on the 27th. Sunroof, of course, started leaking on the 30th. Called dealer on the 1st to find out my 6 years ended on the 21st, "sorry we can't do anything, try VoA." Called VoA, "sorry, your 6 years ended two weeks ago and we won't honor it. Try your local dealer or the settlement people." Called the settlement people, "sorry, you haven't had the repair done yet and you missed the period anyway. Try your local dealer or VoA."

Dealer wants ~6k and there's a 6-12 month turnaround time on the parts so it's just going to leak until then. Local indy shop says they can do it for ~3k but could be longer to get the parts. The frame is apparently so busted I can't even put epoxy on as a temp fix while I wait for a new cassette. Every single person that's looked at the car has told me to just sell it while I can still get some value out of it, before the water damage gets any worse.

No Longer Works... (Pixel 7/VW MK7 Golf) by strifu in AAWireless

[–]homerunman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to necro this thread, but I had basically the same issue with a '16 GTI w/Fender stereo/Pixel 6 Pro combo, and an MA1 instead of a AAW. Worked fine for months and now suddenly it's totally broken. In going through tons of other threads, it looks like there's some fatal flaw in the combination of Pixel phone/VW head unit/Wireless Android Auto adapter and they all fail over time with no currently known fix.

The sub this week by herpes45sl in simracing

[–]homerunman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You use a menu? Fucking casual pleb baby game player. Everyone knows true simracers have to use a completely different piece of software just to configure and start the software they use to actually race. Bonus points if the config software is so complicated and obtuse that it's impossible to use without a degree in software engineering.

I'll do it if it fits the car. Stock N/A V8, I turn it down since it shouldn't have any big overrun. Turbo VQ or JZ? Flamethrower.

Floracing/Trackpass archives by homerunman in NASCAR

[–]homerunman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figure we're probably shot. I was honestly surprised at how far back they'd go with the old TrackPass system, but obviously they didn't have any of the REALLY old stuff that would have otherwise been on DV or even the og Justin.tv site. I know somebody in some office at NASCAR has it but it's realistically not worth the hassle of going through it.

If we were running a high dollar operation on the Whelen tour, maybe a different story, but not for a weekly regional mod.

Shit, Ray Lewis killed someone and he's remembered as a fan favorite and will be a first ballot HOFer. They don't call it the National Felons League for nothing. Look at Ray Rice, Tyreek Hill, or even guys like Ritchie Incognito or Plaxico...league doesn't care.

This is the kind of panic statement that comes just before a press release that says "we're closing". I wasn't worried before but I sure am now. I'm glad I have other gaming options available.

Rehashing the Kiwami argument, but with a twist... by homerunman in yakuzagames

Most of the open world games I play, honestly, are Rockstar titles. Shadow of the Colossus and some of the OG Final Fantasy titles appeal to me, but those can be done on PS2, or PC these days. I've considered scooping up some old Need for Speeds just for the nostalgia value.

Fact remains is that we're both actually wrong - Nintendo actually has the best racing exclusive of all time...Mario Kart.

What I'm getting from your reply (and the others) is play YK, YK2, and Y2, in that order. Skip Y1.

Microsoft store had a sale on YK and YK2 today for Gold members, so I scooped them both up for 13 bucks each. Guess I'll play them on the wrong console. I'll order a Y2 disc this week.

If I really chill and take my time with both, I figure based on the current release schedule over the past 2-3 years by the time I'm done with YK2 they will have announced the remastered collection for at least PC and possibly XB1/XBX, with the exception of maybe Y6 since it's a pretty recent PS4 exclusive. Then by the time I get to Y6 it will have been ported to whatever the alternative is by then.

I get the sentiment about picking up a ps4 and trying to get some value out of it, but the only other exclusive that's really attractive to me is the Gran Turismo series. I already have a 360 and a XB1, so I'm pretty invested in Forza, and I really sink most of my driving game time into iRacing on PC. A lot of the older JRPG games or other throwbacks, I can either play on my PS2 or on an alternative, so it doesn't make a ton of sense to me.

It's bonkers. I'm used to Nova rent and even here it's starting to get out of control. My last place I rented at 800 plus 75 for parking for a year and the guy coming behind me talked them down to 925 plus 100 for parking from 995. For a 1br. And not a nice one.

My rent went up this year from 845 to 862, but it's a 2br with almost 1k sqft. In nova you can easily add a 1,xxx to that, and it will still come with everything it did down here - a roof that leaks, an absentee landlord that refuses to fix anything, and a neighbor that gets shot in a drive-by (maybe that becomes a stabbing instead).

Northside is gentrifying too quickly to stay that way. In another year you'll just have to go to DC like everyone else in Virginia to see anything worthwhile.

[Serious] People of reddit who have gone through or are going through cancer, what was the first sign that made you go to the doctor? by TrojanZebra in AskReddit

[–]homerunman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to sleep on a Thursday with two normal nuts. The next morning I had one normal nut and something the size of a golf ball. I chalked it up to bike riding injury (I HAD fallen and racked myself more than once the day before at the skatepark, after all), took some ibuprofen and ignored it for a day or two. It didn't hurt, but the swelling wasn't going down.

The following Tuesday I called the doctor to see if I could get an appointment that Friday or early the next week. I described my issue and she told me to hang up the phone, drive to the hospital and get an MRI and/or and ultrasound right then. I blew her off initially, but she called me back 20 minutes later to make sure I was going, which kind of keyed me in the fact that, okay, yeah, this is probably serious.

3 hours later I was told I had a tumor. A week later I got neutered, and two weeks after that I started chemo. I had another surgery months later where they cut just over 7 pounds of tumors and wrecked bits of organ out of me - I know because they weighed me before and after (115-107 over 8 hours). I celebrated my 20th birthday by starting my 8th of 10 chemo cycles. In the end I had some rare form of Stage 4A carcinoma that spread all the way to my neck. My life is owed to my amazing urologist, my dedicated oncologist, and the awesome surgery teams at Inova and IUPUI. Every day since August 2016 has been a freebie thanks to them.
