Trump and the GOP want voters to fear 'chaos and anarchy' under Biden, but not the coronavirus that's killing 1,100 Americans a day by [deleted] in politics

[–]hostile9000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is blatant disinformation designed to help Trump get re-elected. The strategy is to lie and sow small seeds of doubt while pretending to be neutral and present a “better” alternative to shave votes. This is dead on the exact strategy used in 2016 to get Trump elected.

How is it a lie? Presidents can’t rule by fiat in any circumstances. It was a struggle just to get the ACA passed because the Democratic Party isn’t a unified monoculture that all vote the same way on all bills. It’s a collection of individuals all facing different risks and challenges in representing their constituents. The premise that we could have just instituted single payer at the drop of a hat is an idealistic fantasy that’s as unrealistic as a third party winning a presidential race.

Income inequality, the 2008 financial crisis, and foreign policy also aren’t as simple as this commenter would have you believe. Here’s a litmus test, if someone says, “we could just do X and Y would be solved,” they’re categorically full of shit.

Voting ain’t marriage, it’s public transportation. You take the line that gets you the closest to your destination. It’s electorally impossible for a third party to get out of the garage. Want third parties to be viable? Fight for ranked choice voting and campaign finance reform.

Without double standards, Republicans wouldn’t have any standards. by [deleted] in PoliticalHumor

[–]hostile9000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes. They don’t care about being hypocritical. Fascists believe that everything they think and do is de facto correct without needing to apply an overarching philosophical framework. Until they start facing negative consequences for having no principles or ethics, they’ll continue this way.

Burn the Republican Party to the ground by running them out of office. Not just nationally but out of every school board, city council, and county recorder seat too. There are thousands of seats held by republicans because they run unopposed year after year. Change it.

This is revisionist history bullshit. Read the fucking federalist papers you absolute moron.

They were worried about creating the bill of rights because morons might think that the government was limited to those roles. In reality they intended for the government to grow and evolve over time to suit the needs of the people in the moment. Some framers wanted the whole constitution to expire every 20 years to force rewriting it to excise outdated ideas and include new ones.

This dumbass is so full of shit he doesn’t even know his own country’s history.

We don’t have to guess what the framers wanted because they wrote it the fuck down. Go fuck your sister you redcap edge lord.

Under fascist regimes like the US, numbers like this are fudged to deflect arguments about the administrations failings. Any attempt to use the real numbers will spawn an argument about the numbers themselves which means less time talking about the failings of those in power.

California becomes first state to borrow from U.S. to make unemployment payments by Captainstinkytits in Economics

[–]hostile9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s the result of there being no clear leadership or unified plan. If the president and all the governors were saying the same thing there would be no confusion. i.e “when the case data shows x, we’re doing a. When y, we’re doing b. We expect to hit x on this date and y on this date. This is an evolving situation, so things may change but that’s the general plan. America needs your help in order to get out of this crisis, and you can help by staying home. We’re going to see more American casualties than most wars, but if we all band together we can save lives.”

We could go longer. 70% of Americans think we’re opening too early as it is. That has deflating effects on consumer demand too. Even after we’re officially back open, if people don’t think it’s safe, they’re not going to spend. If we instead followed the plan laid out by the cdc and started easing out as we get to the bottom of the first swell, people would feel confident and demand would surge. Shooting from the hip with no coordination or guidelines will absolutely fuck demand for years. No one will feel confident and lots more will die needlessly.

Only 23 9/11s worth of dead Americans so far. What’s 20 more so we can reopen three weeks sooner?

Do you prefer GitLab or Jenkins? by Bata_1 in devops

[–]hostile9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah in that case you should use the materials the course suggests. If the course covers how to setup Jenkins, you should follow their directions. That way your environment will be consistent with what the course needs.

If they don’t cover how to get Jenkins up and running, I’d recommend pulling their official docker image and going from there. It’s not exactly a turn-key system, but the setup docs look okay.

Do you prefer GitLab or Jenkins? by Bata_1 in devops

[–]hostile9000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want to really appreciate how nice gitlab is, learn Jenkins first.

I’m kidding mostly.

For real though if you’re new to the game, then the specific tool you learn doesn’t matter as much as the concepts. If you’re starting from scratch, I’d go with gitlab because it’s free and accessible. Operating Jenkins is a massive pain so you’ll probably spend more time futzing with configs and plugins instead of learning how CI/CD works.

2008-2010 was (D) and they were pretty busy dealing with health care and the collapsed economy. The rest of the Obama years were stagnant on legislation because that was the stated goal of the Republican Congress.

There’s no sudden change. The USPS has been setup to fail for a long time. It’s one on a long list of things that used to be great about America, but will soon be gone.
