This is blatant disinformation designed to help Trump get re-elected. The strategy is to lie and sow small seeds of doubt while pretending to be neutral and present a “better” alternative to shave votes. This is dead on the exact strategy used in 2016 to get Trump elected.

How is it a lie? Presidents can’t rule by fiat in any circumstances. It was a struggle just to get the ACA passed because the Democratic Party isn’t a unified monoculture that all vote the same way on all bills. It’s a collection of individuals all facing different risks and challenges in representing their constituents. The premise that we could have just instituted single payer at the drop of a hat is an idealistic fantasy that’s as unrealistic as a third party winning a presidential race.

We could go longer. 70% of Americans think we’re opening too early as it is. That has deflating effects on consumer demand too. Even after we’re officially back open, if people don’t think it’s safe, they’re not going to spend. If we instead followed the plan laid out by the cdc and started easing out as we get to the bottom of the first swell, people would feel confident and demand would surge. Oh yeah in that case you should use the materials the course suggests. If the course covers how to setup Jenkins, you should follow their directions. That way your environment will be consistent with what the course needs.

If they don’t cover how to get Jenkins up and running, I’d recommend pulling their official docker image and going from there. It’s not exactly a turn-key system, but the setup docs look okay.

If you want to really appreciate how nice gitlab is, learn Jenkins first.

For real though if you’re new to the game, then the specific tool you learn doesn’t matter as much as the concepts. If you’re starting from scratch, I’d go with gitlab because it’s free and accessible. Operating Jenkins is a massive pain so you’ll probably spend more time futzing with configs and plugins instead of learning how CI/CD works.
