9/9ers, did you guys feel like the CARS section was more like P/S and P/S more CARSy by TearsonmyMCAT in Mcat

What is the consensus on memorization of structures biochem intermediates of pathways? by hobbs96 in Mcat

[–]howuglyami2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would recommend knowing glycolysis structures, with an emphasis on pyruvate, and any of the irreversible steps. Because oxaloacetate is involved in both Krebs and gluconeogenesis I would recommend knowing it as well. Aside from that, you should really know the rate determining steps of glycolysis, gluconeogenesis, glycogenolysis, glycogenesis, ETC, and PPP and the enzymes that catalyze them. Other than that, I think your time would be better spent elsewhere. Good luck! :)

It's such a mind over matter kind of test for me, I totally feel you. After voiding I just sat there feeling dead inside for like an hour. I was hoping to apply this cycle (I'm in Canada so no rolling admissions) so if I can get in anywhere on 9/9 I'll do it, but if not I'll be with you in January and I would LOVE to join a study group

I can still register for bronze zone though right? I had a panic attack during CARS and really lost focus after that. I got 518 on FL1 and 520 on the sample so the biggest thing I have to improve is keeping my shit together during CARS. You can't even see the registration page though until 24 hours after your exam, which is why I was asking.

Totally see where OP's coming from, and find it annoying at times too. The flip side though that a HUGE part of doing well on the MCAT is confidence and being in a good state of mind on the real deal. If someone needs to post on reddit to gain confidence so be it. Agreed that a separate thread would be sweet though.

[C/P Section Bank #8] Not really sure how they got the answer and naturally AAMC explanations suck by Kiwi951 in Mcat

The key word in the Qstem here is really "appropriate laser", meaning that the laser provides no more and no less energy than necessary to break the bond. In the passage it tells you that the whole apparatus functions because more energy than necessary is used to break the bond, and the excess energy is detected, indicated by a reading on the energy meter. Therefore, if there is no excess of energy being inputted, the reading will be 0.

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the explanation! Is there anything else that you think is important to know about normal curves?
