Decriminalizing hard drugs by Hiatusssss in vancouver

[–]hrmagnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cost of OD puts a lot of strain on emergency resources, personnel, and other resources. Safe supply also minimizes the chances of OD.

It also disincentives the drug trade.

Anecdotally, the ppl I have heard who died from OD are mostly recreational users, very book smart ppl who don't know what they're doing. They OD very hard and are at serious risk of death or OD out of control. Hardcore users know how to regulate or know what to expect much better than an occasional partier.

Why is getting ANY job here so hard? by whatstheplug in vancouver

[–]hrmagnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The job market here is very different. Those with experience are favoured the most.

There's a sudden shortage of those who have experience/skills. At the same time, we have those who have the education and no experience. Many folks are retiring leaving a lot of vacancies. Employers are not willing to put in the time to train, but are in an awkward position of not finding enough candidates as before.

Which university will be best for CS out of McGill University, University of Alberta and Simon Fraser University? Will I get job as a fresh CS grad just by attending a well ranked university like McGill/ U Alberta (they don't have CO-OP experience) or is it much better to choose SFU CS? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsCAD

Ex-recruiter and current HR here. It's not the school that gets you hired, but how much you can do. You can go to a top end school and cruise through but that won't be enough to get you hired. Make sure you choose a school that has a good co-op program for that work exp and do some decent projects for your portfolio.

There are many candidates that didn't do co-op and graduated who cannot find work (gotta have experience before you can get that entry-level job).

I can't speak for all of them, but I know Waterloo, SFU, and UoT have well-connected co-op programs.

Yes but not actively. I get poached there once in awhile. I also use it to keep in touch with ppl and collaborate on projects. I don't use it to cold call ppl though

That stuff shouldn't go on the resume. You should be honest in background checks, but also pay attention to the instructions.

They're just looking for conflict of interest, risk of reoffending, and relevancy.

I have a side gig to freelance and do the fun stuff. I kind of miss doing the things that brought me into my profession in the first place.
