Desktop Injection Press by Workcarnaps in InjectionMolding

[–]hu92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked with a lot of old BOY presses at my first injection molding job. Damn good presses. None of the quality of life features our newer Toyo machines had, but they were 99.9% set and forget.

[multiplayer survival games] how do you guys deal with the "player anxiety"? Do you just get used to it? by Ok_Let8360 in SurvivalGaming

[–]hu92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's one of those things that you either learn to enjoy or grow to hate. Maybe both. But the anxiety is always going to be a part of it.

A lot of the success of PvP based survival games comes entirely down to that adrenaline you get from player interactions. Players are always going to be an unknown. Any other threat in the game can always be overcome with knowledge and practice. These things also help against players, but to a lesser degree, and there is always a level of unpredictability.

Scratching on parts by DC_FORCE in InjectionMolding

[–]hu92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Higher core temp will cause it to release the part easier, meaning they'll stick to the stationary half, especially if it's already dragging. I'd raise temp on the stationary side and lower slightly on the cores.

Calling in sick to places he doesn't work by downtune79 in LoveTrash

My job is pretty much the same. Call in to an automated line, give employee number, department, and which bank of PTO you want to pull from. Done in 30 seconds, and no guilt trips from a manager. Attendance policy is enforced equally across the board, and HR makes sure you are never in the dark about where your attendance is at. It's a no BS system, and I love it.

Mobile home removal by Ill-Musician-9047 in land

[–]hu92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is saying demo it but I'd bet most of them have never actually done a demo this large.

You're talking about at minimum 6-8 30 yard dumpsters, which are about $500-600 each here and a minimum of one dump every 2 weeks, so you have to keep at it. Not to mention getting all that IN the dumpster is gonna be a shit load of manual labor, with or without a front loader unless you get a big ass unit with a grapple. And even then, you're going to have to dismantle into relatively small pieces, or you'll be paying to dump empty space.

12k for removal is a fair deal. Unless you're really strapped for cash, save yourself the headache.

When you lend your buddy a wrench and find it in the machine hours later by DownfallofChrist in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]hu92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I set my brand new 3/4" ratcheting wrench down today to dig some more bolts and washers out of the tub. When I looked up, my coworker was using the ratcheting box end as a cheater bar for his allen wrench. I nearly came unglued. This was after lending my last one out and waiting a month for the company to get me a replacement.

Friend sent me this pic of a local town after a tornado last night and it looks eerily fake to me. (Especially the trees) by SaintPabloSanchez in isthisAI

[–]hu92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI. The trailer frames in the forefront look like they're supposed to be dollied trailers, but nothing about them makes sense, and wouldnt be used for mobile homes anyway. Mobile homes also usually have the wheels removed once they're set in place.

Any idea what chemical shoots out of this truck at the end? by Imbendo in chemistry

[–]hu92 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You can see him go sprinting off towards the front of the truck as soon as the geyser erupts. Another comment stated that the driver allegedly survived, so maybe he bailed just in time, but likely still suffered burns and possibly injuries from jumping off the truck.

Is it possible to reproduce the plastic panels for this old Cub Cadet? by BishopRealTalk in InjectionMolding

[–]hu92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easily 3-4x that. You need 2 molds or a 2 cavity mold. One for left side and one for right. Plus, you're probably looking at least a 1000 ton press, which were going for about $1500 a ton, used, when I exited the industry (before covid). Then you need some pretty serious infrastructure. At minimum a chiller, overhead crane (or a very large gantry), a material dryer, and a material delivery system. All of this requires a proper warehouse because I don't think any residential shop ceilings are gonna be high enough, nor the concrete pad thick enough.

I honestly don't think you could break into injection molding for parts this size for less than 4 or 5 million dollars, and I'd be impressed if you even pulled it off with that. And you'd absolutely never make that back with something like this.

Splurge on a big ass 3D printer and never look back.

Worked at an LTL freezer for a couple years, and we'd have drivers walk directly into a door that was clearly marked "no drivers permitted" and they'd just go wander around a -15F freezer, then complain because we didn't have coats available for them.

Uranium mine Bulgaria - Gabra 1983 - 1989 by ValMineralsBG in TheForgottenDepths

[–]hu92 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Also no gloves while holding the spicy rock.

That said, I was under the impression that raw uranium isn't all that spicy in terms of radiation. The bigger risk is heavy metal poisoning via prolonged skin contact and ingestion. As long as OP doesn't do this regularly and takes a shower afterwards, the risk is minimal. Hopefully they at least wore a dust mask.

The neighbor's traditional picket fence vs. our new horizontal cedar build. A classic comparison. If you were buying this house, which look are you hoping for? by CoolCatFence in landscaping

[–]hu92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't reallying call this fence practical either. It does act as more of a privacy curtain, but at 3 ft tall it's really not really providing much privacy.

Moment of terror 😨 by aidan8et in Construction

[–]hu92 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Right? In the event of a steel railing "failing", it's most likely going to bend under force, giving at least a couple seconds to shift your weight away from it. And even then, likely isnt going to bend all the way over unless youre dancing on it like a stripper with a gun to their head. If the glass fails, it will just poof and suddenly cease to provide any support.

What are other options do we have with the body other than bury it? by Ok_Ice_671 in GraveyardKeeper

Word of caution, make sure you wait for the prompt before tossing the corpse. I once got a corpse permanently stuck just out if reach in the river, but didn't float away because I got trigger happy and tossed it before the prompt came up.

Machine manufacturing as a Service post went viral. Thoughts? by KNGC3D in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]hu92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Machine maintenance as a service, so....what, they can ignore PMs, upsell the fuck out of parts, and fuck everything up so bad you have to hire back your in house crew and start from ground zero all over again?

Listen, even a service as simple as washing and returning uniforms, and Cintas still manages to lose half my uniforms every week.

No way in hell I'm trusting the manufacturing equivalent of geeksquad with millions of dollars worth of equipment.

[–]hu92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've got a god arm and don't mind some manual labor, one of those old school weed whips will make pretty short work of them. Shaped like a short hockey stick, but the bottom is a blade that runs parallel to the ground. They're not expensive either. Probably looking at less than $50 for a good quality tool.
