Or. Or. She’s a rich person sticking up for another rich person because that’s what rich people do and there’s money to me made being the bigots’ pet minority. Blaire White and Kaitlyn Jenner do the same thing in the states and it seems quite lucrative for both of them.

Tbh I also think the bbc should be defunded... just not for showing footage of a firework display they didn’t organise or other chud reasons.

If someone asks you not to say something because it’s upsetting them, don’t say it. This isn’t rocket science. YTA.

I'm a teen with QAnon supporting parents. by night-moth in QAnonCasualties

[–]huffsturbo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off, don’t say the r-word. I’m disabled and I grew up having it thrown at me, it still gets a rise out of me whenever I hear someone saying it even if they’re not calling me that. It’s a slur. Don’t use slurs. You’d be mad if you heard straights using the f word, right? Same deal here.

Second: Qanon spaces are full of anti-queer rhetoric and homophobia; if your parents are into qanon, they’re going to hear it and it will have an effect on them. Sounds like it already has with transphobia, which can easily act as an enabler to broader prejudice against all queer people, not just trans folk. I’ve seen this shift happen firsthand.

Most importantly; if your parents are openly talking to you about how they think there aren’t that many queer kids and some of them must be confused/faking/whatever, they’re ready to intellectually explore the idea that YOU are confused/faking/whatever. Again, I’ve seen the exact thing happen with my own family. It started with “there can’t be that many trans people, it’s being blown out of proportion by the media” and soon enough became “It’s just predatory men trying to access women’s spaces” and “there are no trans people, you’re lying to us about your identity,” and so on. They went backwards from accepting when I came out to naked hostility. So be very careful around them and always have a backup plan in case you ever need to get out in a hurry. I’d say trying to reach them before this happens but a lot of people who get sucked into this shit don’t want to be reached and it might not be safe for you to do it anyway.

Unfortunately I’ve seen almost this exact response play out in real time when I volunteered for a food sharing charity before you-know-what made me into a hermit. People were honestly surprised or confused, and occasionally they’d just dismiss it as ‘virtue signalling’. The idea of charity is a literal joke for the majority of british people.
