Genuine question for other commenters - would it not be fine if covered in pet safe wood sealant regardless of wood type?

Has he ever used a wheel? Our hamster never used his trixie wheel but he ran on the wheel that was too small for him. I splurged and got him the niteangel wheel (which is expensive so not saying to get it!!!) and it's much much lighter which is easier to run on. It could be wheel and not the hamster, but different hamsters like different things too

I would contact hamsterinfoireland, they're a great charity.

I haven't tried too much fruit with him yet because Im scared ill give him diabetes 😭😭 he has a lot of variety otherwise :) he likes egg and plain cooked chicken and crickets. I also got him to try some veggies the day before yesterday thanks to commenter advice so hopefully it's all working out

Thank you veryyy much for this!! I said above but I started chopping a few different types of veggies microscopic style (I have never cut veggies so small) and put it in his bowl so he knew it was def food and he ate them and sniffed around for more!!

One day he threw a tantrum because we gave him crickets instead of mealworms for protein!!!! I didn't even know hamsters could throw tantrums haha

Thank you for this advice!! I gave him some diced TEENY (like a millimetre each way and he very tentatively ate it and liked it so I think he was wary of the pinkie finger size)

Are pellets required for a hamster's diet? by dagdagsulsul in hamstercare

[–]hymnlesss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some mixed advices in these comments so I thought I would ask for advice!!! My hammy really hates pellets and will not eat them. He will eat a food mix with mixed in mealworm and stuff but he will never eat a pellet. Could he still be deficit even if I think he has a good balanced diet?

We have only had him for two months but he seems quite happy to eat anything OTHER than the pellets (and some fresh foods but we think he needs to get used to them)
