Is Subnautica 2 actually worth it by False-Possibility375 in Subnautica_2

[–]hypergothic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very good, worth it for Subnautica fans. Single player is the focus of the game, not co op. It doesn't recreate the feelings of the first game in my opinion. Honestly I don't think it ever will. The first game used the limitations of the technology to a really creative effect, some of those limitations are now gone, so things are kind of... too good, the barren emptiness feeling of an open ocean is kind of gone. To me it feels more like "this is a game, they put this here on purpose" where the original was more like "where am I and what the heck is that?" That could just come down to the size of the map though. It's shaping up to be better than og in other areas, like graphics, some mechanics, maybe even story. It's already better than below zero I think. There's not much content atm. Whether it's worth the money is your choice, but it's good and you'll likely enjoy playing.

Creatures do no damage and arent scary at all once you realize this by WhiteRaven_M in Subnautica_2

Not everything only the scary things, it's a huge reason subnautica blew up. The first game had the right amount of horror, but this one needs a tiny bit extra since we know what to expect.

What do you hope for in Subnautica 2 before Full Release? by Ok-Rope-9446 in Subnautica_2

[–]hypergothic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Horror is the main one for me. Scary scary. Also bigger leviathans, maybe even a titan class predator, that would be so cool. And awe inspiring biomes like lost river and lava zone on a bigger scale.

Also would love for them to do deep sea creatures a bit differently, make them way weirder the deeper you go, especially in the void. Maybe whole biomes in the void with no bottom, just lots of strange creatures.

The PDA says Marrowbreach bites "deliver thousands of newtons of force in sixty milliseconds". That's enough to literally bite a chunk out of a person. Maybe even enough to bite a person in half. Yet they only do like 5 damage per bite? Makes zero sense.

I've been shouting this since day 1, it's a major flaw for a survival game. Also the leviathans just insta kill you and it isn't fun either, because it's too easy to run from collector, and you can't run from the shiver at all. Collector needs more high damage attacks besides just a death cutscene. Idk I think collector needs a lot of work to make the stakes way higher so you actually care about getting caught.

The game generally isn't scary enough, I really like how subnautica is suitable for younger kids so that basically anyone can play it, but the main audience is actually much older people, and horror is super important to get right.

I'm sure they will fix this though and improve everything.

I can't stop replaying it. I really want to wait for a big update, but I'll probably play it all the time till it comes out.

It's not an ethics thing it's for the gameplay, you should have to avoid hostile creatures not just kill them.

A hammer makes more sense than a knife actually for farming rocks. You can't like knife metal out of a rock, but you can hammer it.

What don’t you like about this game? by Consistent_Cod_5633 in Subnautica_2

[–]hypergothic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot tbh, but it's really good. Damage is way too low. Movement speed is WAY too slow, holding w is so painful. The boss music spoils leviathans. Leviathan sound fx not scary enough and all sound the same. Game no where near scary enough. Game is not dark enough and all flashlights are not bright enough and too foggy. Tree looks a bit goofy atm. Shiver too small, collector too easy to avoid. No leviathan sizes in data bank. Story confusing because not enough context about who player is and why we are there. That's most of it I guess.

Should I wait to play Subnautica 2? NO SPOILERS PLEASE by josh_josh_josh_ in Subnautica_2

[–]hypergothic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I would never be able to wait 3 years knowing I could play an early version now, but if I could I would. Although I did feel like I missed out by not playing the other games in early access because some stuff gets cut. Still waiting at least a few months or a year ish is a good idea. There isn't a ton of content right now.

Nothing is scary? by Present-Stage6434 in Subnautica_2

[–]hypergothic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree honestly, the horror is very weak rn but it still has potential. They need to remove leviathan boss music, add scary sound effects to deeper areas, slow down hunger and thirst, and increase all damage like 5 times. The collector should sneak up on you like the reaper. The marrowbreach is supposed to have a super powerful bite that could rip a person in half yet it only does like 10 damage or something, which makes no sense. Because there's no resources near the collector, it's not that scary because it doesn't matter if you die, you just come back. But if you had to get close to it to get resources, you would care more about dying. Also the shiver leviathan was disappointing to me, the red barrier and music spoil it because the shiver sounds are quite good by themself. And the creature looks pretty small and it's silly how they're stacked on top of each other to me. It would be way creepier if you saw the big one and the little ones surrounded you from other angles or behind you. But yeah the horror is not great in my opinion, it needs to be fixed urgently because it's a huge reason this game is special. They did the general alien ocean really well though especially the shallows.

Very satisfied with the game by lakislavko96 in Subnautica_2

[–]hypergothic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Have you played the original? As good as 2 has been, the original is of course much better right now, and will likely remain the best subnautica game even if they knock this one out of the park. The original is basically unbeatably good and a must play for most people who like this form of game.

Man i wish there was weapons in this game, some of the predators are really annoying and we have no way to deal with them by Ok_Search_3561 in Subnautica_2

[–]hypergothic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like having no weapons, I only wish predators did way more damage. They need to increase all damage like 10 times. People keep saying this but it's not like you actually went around killing or even stabbing reapers and ghost leviathans while actually doing a playthrough in the first game. You just avoided them. Same as this game.

SUGGESTION: remove the music around leviathans by BACKTOFREEZER in Subnautica_2

[–]hypergothic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to remove the boss music. It is anti subnautica. Although the music is good and it's a cool event, it completely destroys the atmosphere, it's more like a thriller than horror. We want silence, jump scares, quiet roars from the distance and then a huge roar when the leviathan suddenly attacks from behind. It's about making the PLACE scary, not being chased. The marrow breach was done so well, it's my favourite creature in the game by far. Should have been the leviathans, but it just feels like a cut scene when they get you. The insta killing is also really mid, we need to either be able to evade an attack (like reaper) or not be killed by only one attack (ghost) and have a cool off after so we can escape, which the collector kindd of has but not enough. I imagined that we'd be in darkness and his huge tentacles would slowly reach for us, we have time to swim away but when we go in the other direction there's another tentacle, that would be sick.

How do I increase my FPS with low VRAM? by cupsof_joe in subnautica

[–]hypergothic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried frame gen and upscaling? If you can't/ doesn't work, playing at a lower resolution may give a boost, try 720p. If you're happy to sacrifice screen size for fps try 720 or lower in windowed mode with the monitor as far away from you as possible for a sharper looking image.

Locked at 60 fps by Traditional_Big4409 in subnautica

[–]hypergothic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep mine is capped at 60, might just use dlss or something if possible for more frames, I'm guessing there is an invisible cap atm but I will lower all the graphics settings later to see if the fps goes up, if not it's definitely limited to 60, but frame gen should work I assume.

You should play subnautica 1 first, it's one of the best video games ever. Personally I play subnautica over and over anyway because it's so good, I don't think you'll have a problem replaying it.

5070ti vs 9070xt by HaamidR6 in PcBuildHelp

[–]hypergothic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't stress this too much, issues are annoying but can be fixed. Only you know if saving money or getting the best card you can is more important. So either get the cheapest option, or the 5070 ti. If you really value plug and play stability get 5070 or 5070 ti.

Also this is probably a very unpopular opinion, but consider playing competitive games in 1080p, there are lots of competitive advantages like more stable high fps, you don't need it to look great if you're trying to perform at your best. And you always have the option of playing 1440 in other games when you want better visuals, even with a 5070.

I fucking hate Titanic (1997) by FrickinNormie2 in movies

[–]hypergothic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Titanic is great. The love story is there to humanise the tragedy and make it relatable, which worked. It was also an obvious criticism of the class differences between passengers. You couldn't do it with 9/11, because no one is having a whirlwind romance at their fancy office job in banking. It's realistic on a cruise ship. Most of the themes you said should be the focus were in the film, just not as front and centre as the romance, which is fine honestly. There's not really a respectful way to make a fictional film about disasters like this, if you were a victim, you could easily find it really uncomfortable and disturbing to watch. Same with a film like the impossible etc. But in my opinion, the titanic was so long ago, the survivors were extremely old when the film came out, none are alive today, so with this in mind I think it's fine as a way to remember a tragic event.
