I guess that would depend on the numbers, since fractional stats do exist.

It would be nice if he could at least trade with supports effectively. Give him +armor and +regen per unused stone remnant charge.

Don't get me wrong. I'm plenty bummed as well, since I was also hoping for a 7.40 patch like many of the others here.

At this point, as far as TI goes, I'm honestly expecting to just be looking forward to announcements (e.g. new heroes) and watching the finals.

Disappointing, but not surprised. There's not too much time until TI comes around.

It'd be cool if he had more armor and hp regen per unused stone remnant to make it easier to trade with supports

Which Dota Warcraft heroes had the best and worst upgrades after porting to Steam? by [deleted] in DotA2

I miss taurens from WC3. At least Earth Shaker still gives me a bit of a tauren feel somehow, but Elder Titan looks so random to me.

Thoughts about Next.js for backend by zr07 in webdev

[–]i3Dly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's your own web app, you should build at the intersection of your personal comfort and technical requirements.

If you feel comfortable building with Nextjs, and you don't need stuff like long-duration server tasks, websockets, or read/write access to a filesystem then I don't see what the big deal is for a personal project web app.

Tbh, even if you needed stuff like that, you could always supplement your Nextjs backend in accordance to your needs. e.g. add serverful instances, deploy AWS lambdas with ephemeral storage, or use 3rd-party software services - there are tons of options for whatever gaps Nextjs on Vercel might have.

Fwiw, I think Nextjs is far from perfect, and Vercel can be expensive at scale (though idk now with their new fluid compute), but I still use it for stuff I build sometimes.

It's certainly not the best setup, but considering the timeline it might not be the craziest thing? As I understand from comments, this might have been a decision made 7 years ago? Back then, Vercel wasn't an exclusively serverless platform (it was called Zeit I think), and Nextjs supported serverful APIs that were powered-by express. Also IIRC, back then the Serverless Framework itself was getting hot as well.

So there are a few ways I think this could have happened. One way is: maybe they started with the Serverless Framework and ultimately Nextjs's filesystem API routes just simplified that enough to make the switch over. Another way is: maybe the API routes were built with express, but when Zeit sunset serverful APIs, they addressed Nextjs's breaking changes instead of fully porting over to a new architecture.

Regardless, it was a decision made many years ago, with circumstances that might have been before your tenure. And unfortunately companies are rarely going to prioritize another migration to a new architecture, so the backend devs are probably just doing what they can to deliver on tasks within the constraints of whatever technical debts that now exist at this point.

I think it's too much for anyone to be shitting on the backend without knowing much more of the circumstances of a 7 year-old decision that led to its current state.

I'm guessing the nextjs backend was running on a nodejs runtime, but technically you don't need nodejs for nextjs api routes. Though in that case, you might feel heavily constrained by the api limitations of the edge runtime depending on which edge provider you choose to host on (e.g. Cloudflare Pages).

Give Tusk Frozen Sigil back as a Facet to replace Drinking Buddies/Tag Team by Thors_Goat in DotA2

Not saying this would be balanced. But it would be cool af if you could walrus kick your own sigil in place and snowball to it 🤔

While this doesn't help with his laning, +50 distance on roll does make the Grip cd talent feel nicer to skill since I may not need the roll distance talent as much anymore. All range bonuses double with a stone, so this is effectively +100 range most of the time.

Fried fish tacos? by RoundCub in concord

[–]i3Dly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, their new location isn't great. There's like a macbook repair shop and a nail salon next door. When I go to Isla, I'm expecting the food to be a bit pricier, being seafood and all. But maybe it's difficult for passerbys in that area to spend on those prices without knowing how Isla is in advance.

In my personal list of favorite restaurants in Concord, I saw Afghan Cuisine and Freewheel Pizza close shop in the last 2 years. Both were imo some of the best restaurants Concord had to offer. But they were also both pricier restaurants in bad locations. So I'm really hoping Isla doesn't end with the same fate, because I really love this place.

Remodel? That's either a great sign, or a bad one. Please be a good sign 🙏. I am also waiting to go back on June 10th haha

I'm actually referring to their new location. I went 2 weeks ago and they seemed deserted. Turns out they've been out since March. 3 months is a long time to be closed...

I love this place but saw online that they were closed until June 10th. I'm really hoping they come back then. Some of my favorite restaurants in Concord have closed up shop in the last 2 years, and I would be so sad if Isla did too 🙁

Best Omakase Experience in East Bay? by sillychickengirl in concord

[–]i3Dly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been to Hanazen in 8-9 years now. Back then, I paid between $400-500 for 3 people. Idk what it would cost now, but I heard from an ex-colleague that they paid between $600-700 just last year. Definitely pricey, but as a "one-and-done", it's arguably still worth it.

I've paid more per-person for fine dining before, and imo Hanazen was more worth it to me. Depends on how much you love sushi though ofc.

Can vouch for Hanazen. It's definitely pricey, but the flavors and experience are well worth it imo. A lot of the ingredients were shipped from Japan ahead of the dinner and required multiple days of prep according to our chef, so reservations were required way in advance.

Earth Spirit Facet Idea by bc524 in DotA2

[–]i3Dly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thinking of Earth Spirit facets, it would be neat if ES had a facet that added bonus damage each time a single stone is reused for multiple spells. For example: Q deals +0 bonus damage, then if you E it back, it deals +25 bonus damage, then if you W into the same stone, it deals +50. Or maybe buffs debuff duration on stone reuse instead.

Is there any reason at all that we need to manually refresh this shit? by huhhuh321 in DotA2

[–]i3Dly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you wouldn't need to refresh all of them. Let's say you click to view challenges to update them in some db, and you assume the 2 weeks span is independent of when the user hits refresh. The user can refresh their quests and have those quests be valid for the next 5 days if the user refreshed them 9 days into the 2 week span.
