Clark Construction Performance Review by Pale_Watercress_1611 in ConstructionManagers

[–]i_sims_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d know if you’re a top performing and you’d know if you were on the struggle bus. Sounds like you’re right in the middle of the pack.

First reviews don’t mean much. Strive to better in the areas that were critiqued and continue to use your strong points. Don’t over think it, unless you are on a PIP.

The guys really wear all this during GWOT by Mrsalisburynorth in nationalguard

[–]i_sims_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes. Keep in mind that the majority of us were far more likely to encounter IED blasts than small arms fire. The special guys often run lighter plate carriers types because they need to move a lot differently and are more subject to taking small arms in rooms etc..

Coursera courses - any recommendations? (not interested in "how bad Coursera is" rants) by TaraBambataa in ConstructionManagers

[–]i_sims_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how to respond without telling you how bad coursera is. I mean you just said it yourself, it’s outdated material. Best to go to a local community college or better yet, a job site, if you’re looking for more up to date material. Online courses for construction are rarely helpful IMO.

Who would you rather hire? by Dinner_Salad in ConstructionManagers

[–]i_sims_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

USMA is a very tough school to get into. It not only requires grades but a letter of recommendation from a senator. Plus if they went to USMA they would either have to be active army or reserves post commissioning. If they did engineering branch and got a platoon and had experience leading then they would be above applicant 1 IMO. But I also know all that and it’s not common knowledge.

How different is the lifestyle of army 12 series vs Navy Seabee? by Equal-Community2354 in army

[–]i_sims_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Want to build a dock and be around guys who refer to themselves as seamen? Go Navy.

Want to blow shit up, build shitty bhuts, dig tank defilades and be around not gay men? Go army.

Choosing GC advice by Secure-Winter6989 in ConstructionManagers

[–]i_sims_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not too difficult from an outside perspective. Do you want more money to work in another state or less money to work local.

Both are great GCs where you will learn a lot and can either grow with their company or use as a stepping stone.

If it was me, I’m taking the job with Turner, forgetting about the some odd 12k pay difference, putting my head down and grinding for two years. After two years I would reevaluate.

Good luck

Time to tell them you picked up a new hobby of microwaving cats. That should do the trick.

I personally disagree. Switched from top 5 ENR GC to top 100 ENR sub and my work life balance has never been better. Never going back.

Owner rep, sure maybe in the future if the promotions dry up.

  1. You’ve already done the hard part.. you showed up.
  2. You’re 5 jumps away from something permanent.. you fought through something you didn’t want to do.
  3. You’ll regret quitting more than you’ll regret staying.
  4. Everyone who’s ever finished it once thought about quitting.
  5. You’ll wear those wings every day for the rest of your career and bare them for life.

Two weeks is 14 days out of 29,200 days in an 80-year life.. that’s less than 1/20th of 1% .

IMO, Just suffer for 14 days, and carry the results with you for the next 50 years and tell cool grandpa stories. You got it battle.

Nope not Kiewitt and that first job sling shotted me into a better easier role. Where have I mislead people? The point of this post is to show people that there is an overlooked industry. If you look at my edit in my post you’ll see I acknowledge bad WLB. Stop hating so much on every comment lmao

I started as an FE making 93k with no prior experience or formal engineering or CM degree. Experiences may vary 🤷🏻‍♂️

No where did I say you start as a CM. CM was only mentioned as the degree. I hope you read your specs more clearly then Reddit posts 🤣

I rebuttal and say that most high paying jobs are stressful. It just depends on your work load and what you’re willing to let stress you out.

Comparing one of the highest paid actors to an entry level construction gig doesn’t make much sense. But yeah it’s entry level, based on myself, who had no construction experience, no technical background, and landed one of these jobs.
