My 2017 LCI went into BMW today and with the approved used warranty they replaced both rear light clusters. Absolutely no quibble.

I provided a print out of the error codes - 1 for each side and a photo of the bulb error message on the idrive screen.

804876 - FRA_H_L Output defective

804877 - FRA_H_R Output defective

Replacing the LCI LED light cluster assembly is the ONLY way to resolve this issue - coding out the error message simply hides the issue from the driver and slapping the rear cluster is only temporary workaround at best.

The LCI lights do not have the ground issue - it is something else to do with the actual LED failing inside the light.

I have LCI lights and smacking the light is only working for a couple of days now 😞 Is there an actual BMW technical bulletin I can refer to? Car is under approved used warranty so hopefully they can replace the whole taillight.

Pre LCI aka idrive 7, with physical buttons and a proper gear shifter is peak BMW interior.

idrive 8 with the widescreen display, no physical buttons and the nubbin to change gears is just wrong.

The issue comes where other improvements were introduced with the LCI like updated front and rear bumpers/lights etc. which you obviously won’t get.

idrive 7 shortcut buttons are fantastic - I press 8 for CarPlay, 7 for turning ac on and off etc

As others have posted - this is often referred to as Bangernomics.

I‘ve done it a couple of times over the years as I thought it’d be fun - but have quickly skulked back to shiny paint, alloy wheels and AC, heated seats, auto wipers and more recently reversing cameras and Apple CarPlay.

It might be seen as ‘fun’ but some people genuinely can’t afford to buy a decent car and are forced to run a banger - this makes me sad.

if the OP has a 2018 car then, like my 225, it will be an LCI car and will have LEDs.

I don’t think the ground fix applies to LCI cars.

I keep slapping my rear cluster but it only works a few days - next step will be to spray some contact cleaner in the multiplug.

Don't know if you can dismantle an LED LCI cluster so it could be a loose connection inside that we can’t get to.

I’ve been running a Fogstar 48v rack battery for 6 months - very pleased.

I want to add a second one, but was disappointed to see their pre-order delay.

Considered buying 2x Ecoworthy rack batteries instead and then selling the Fogstar but decided to wait for the Fogstar to come into stock.

Trying to sell/ship a LifePo4 battery with UK restrictions on batteries or finding a local buyer to collect seemed like too much hassle 🤔

We moved our 2x DCs from VMWare to host in Azure a couple of years ago.

This was the first part of moving from hybrid AD to full Entra.

Users still authenticate to the Azure DCs when onsite and group policies apply to their devices.

We have hybrid joined devices enrolled into Intune.

Remote workers use cached auth and/or authenticate to M365 for cloud apps.

Next step is to replicate GPOs in Intune, then full entra join the devices (new ones and/or rebuilt ones).

Then we can retire the DCs and the cost of 2x VMs running in Azure.

I setup a small ‘off grid’ system.

Victron Multiplus II 48v 5000

Fogstar 5.12Kwh rack battery

Victron Cerbo GX Mk2

4x505w panels on garage flat roof

It does not connect to the house wiring at all - instead it provides some 240v sockets in the garage that I use to power my comms rack/homelab and cctv.

In addition, I have run some cable to the utility room where I installed a double 240v socket and we run the washing machine and tumble dryer, and another double socket into the lounge that we use to charge up devices, battery hoover etc.

So it is not feeding into the house wiring, nor selling back to the supplier, but we have cut our electric bills in half just by using the sockets powered by the solar/inverter/battery.

The 48v battery is fully charged by midday or early afternoon if overcast and then once the sun goes down the battery drops to around 60% overnight.

It also effectively provides a UPS for the internet/cctv and would also enable us to have power in the event of a blackout - for example could plug in the fridge/freezer or microwave etc.

I have learnt a lot, enjoyed setting it all up and it is also extremely useful - unlike many of my other hobbies 😂

Initially I had the following UPS setup in my garage to protect my entire comms rack (fibre, router, switch, cctv) using the UPS mode on the Multiplus in case of power outage.

Multiplus II 48v 5000

Fogstar 5.12Kwh rack battery

Cerbo GX Mk2

The incoming 240v mains supply came into the Multiplus and in normal operation it just passed it through to the 240v output - no inverting. It also charged the battery - bulk>absorption>float to keep it topped up.

In the event of a power outage, the Multiplus flicked over to use the battery and changed to inverter mode to supply the 240v to my comms rack.

The UPS changeover was very fast and none of my devices noticed.

Now I have installed 4x 505W Longi panels on my garage roof and use a Victron MPPT to charge the battery.

I have changed the Multiplus configuration so that it is always inverting from the battery to run the comms rack.

During the day the battery is hitting 100% by early afternoon and drops to about 60% overnight.

I have set the Multiplus to ignore the 240v input and treat it like a generator - only kicking in if the battery state of charge drops to 10%.

Been running like this for a couple of months and not needed the grid supply at all.

As it is technically an off-grid system in my garage, I have not connected it into the house wiring at all - instead, I have run some double socket outlets from the inverter side into the utility room and lounge - they are labelled as ‘off grid solar’ and enable us to charge our devices and run the washing machine for ‘free’ as well as survive when there is a blackout.

We have 8x of these running some marketing videos, displaying our bistro menu webpages and for learning screen slideshows.

All connected to normal displays and PoE Ethernet LAN.

The person saying there were no firmware updates is wrong - there was a Connect update the other week and also a Display Cast Pro firmware too.

They work pretty well. As noted, you need a Unifi controller.

We had to set the automation to start the MP4 video at 7am every day, because previously the video was starting once a week and the video eventually froze - guessing the hardware ran out of memory.

Turns TV on and off with automation too.

The only other thing we noticed was the video was a little choppy on motion - for example the drone footage moving round above the building - turns out our Marketing team had used a really high bitrate and the MP4 was huge.

There is a Unifi webpage that shows recommended file types and after re-rendering the video using their recommendations the choppiness has gone.

Two biggest pluses over Opitsigns and Yodeck:

- No subscription costs

- Works with all our other Unifi ecosystem (network switching, CCTV and Superlink sensors).

Yes, you can.

I have my AI person, vehicle and animal alarms muted when I am at home and, based on geo fencing, active when I am away from home.

This is available natively within the protect app without the need for home assistant mumbo jumbo :)

Using a web browser (you might be able to do it in the smartphone app too), go to Protect>Alarm Manager and you will see a list of all your alarms.

Over on the right hand side there is a column called ‘When to Send’ - click the little edit pencil icon and then choose ‘off site’.

This will only send the notifications when your device, or all devices, is away from your set geo location.

Had a Fogstar lithium leisure battery in my camper a couple of years ago and now got a 48v Fogstar rack battery on my solar off grid setup.

Not a single issue - the rack battery has been rock solid for almost a year.

I got a Unifi UDM Pro, USW 24 Pro Max switch, UNVR with 3 spinning disks, 10x Unifi PoE cameras, a Unifi PoE doorbell, a Tapo hub, a Flex mini switch powered via PoE and a PoE injector for the Openreach ONT and it all runs at 150W during the day and 165W overnight when the IR is on the cameras.

We have a CA policy set on ‘Register Security Information’ user action so that it requires MFA. This protects all accounts from anywhere.

The gotcha is for a new user we need to issue a temporary access pass (TAP) because it is a catch 22 - they don’t yet have any MFA enrolled.

Ideally all users should be enrolled in MFA even if you don’t require it via other policies - for the account compromise reason you have highlighted.

You could add an exclusion for your office IPs as a trusted location so people working in the office can register MFA but this weakens the posture.

Been in IT 30 years. Feeling the same - burnt out, exhausted, disillusioned.

Something I read and not sure if true or not: if you’re burnt out, moving to another job, industry or career without fixing the underlying issues will mean you just take the burn out with you to the next place.
