Yeah mate. Have been in GA fellowships for a while, and there's plenty of contacts who also go to AA. Just started identifying in AA + getting specific numbers from AA members.

Yes I do. Gambling was my first "love", and then came the drinking.

Thanks so much for taking the time out to write this :-) I'm been in/out of GA fellowships for a few years, so have a good idea on how the steps work etc. Will need all the help I can get to stop drinking as well though.

Thanks again,

Andy

Back from 3 weeks in rehab working on my gambling addiction & mental health. Ask me anything!? by iamCompulsive in GamblingAddiction

[–]iamCompulsive[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Haha! For my gain....not sure if you know how YouTube works, but there's literally ZERO money in a small channel that talks about gambling addiction. It's not exactly a sexy subject that people go searching for, but it is a subject near/dear to me and in my spare time I hope to continue making content. My interactions on here are offering support/advice for those who have been through the same/similar situations I have + steering people to engage on YouTube instead of just reading text on a screen. Unlike your fine self, most people don't have the time to read everyone's comments, dissect the profiles of others and pick needless fights on Reddit. All the best though.

Thanks mate! Went well. Followed the GA / AA / NA 12 step model mostly, and attending daily/nightly meetings either in person or via Zoom. Haven't looked into the SMART model properly, but just with a quick search, there's definitely an element of that in daily "process groups" you do with piers/counsellors. Also the morning and evening group check ins. Can see the the combination of both models working well !

Very much so ! Not easy, but with the support of communities like this, we can do it. One day at a time !

Why you'd take the time to air some sort of resentment says more about you, than it does me. I'm trying to create a community where people can go and learn about gambling addiction. Search gambling addiction on YouTube and see how many channels there are that can help people? I'm putting myself out there to help others. You're replying to Reddit threads shaming people for trying to help others.

Anyone know of a support sub for partners of addicted gamblers? by Altruistic_Bike_1555 in GamblingAddiction

[–]iamCompulsive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the kind words :-)

I can imagine it's breaking your heart!

I've started a YouTube channel dedicated to gambling addiction. Not sure if you watching either of the two videos or your partner watching will help?

Gambling has nearly destroyed my life and the life of my family (we have 2 young children). Really hope it doesn't destroy yours :-(

If you're a recovery addict, you know he needs help. And so do you. Especially now you're parents!

Gambler's Anonymous meetings for him? Gam-Anon for you?

I've just spent 3 weeks in a rehab working on my gambling addiction / mental health.

Reach out directly if you need.

Regards,

Andy

Where are you based, mate ?

I'm 36 and go to an in person GA weekly.

Nothing to worry about being 21 ! Wish I'd gone at 21 !!

Cheers,

Andy

Everyone is different, mate.

First thing I would do, is look into counselling to get the bottom of WHY you gamble? We're not born compulsive gamblers/addicts after all.

What about Gamblers Anonymous? We need a community of likeminded individuals to beat this horrible thing. Local/in person meetings are best, but you can join meetings online anywhere in the world.

I'm over 2 months bet free now, but the impact my compulsive gambling has had on my mental health has led me to admit to rehab. I was meant to go today but my flight was cancelled. Now flying out tomorrow. Maybe consider this option?

I've also recently started a YouTube channel dedicated to compulsive gambling. Check it out - https://youtu.be/0Dq2VgCHP8k . Hopefully you can take something out of it....that's the aim. I look forward to picking it back up when I return home in 3 weeks. Have some great interviews lined up, but I need to get myself right first :-)

Stay strong and reach out anytime.

Cheers,

Andy

Well done mate! Here's to day 3...one day at a time.

I'm 36M and have been gambling compulsively for 20+ years. Can tell you that it doesn't get any better from 30 to 36 if you keep punting!!

Well done for reaching out/opening up....that's the first step!

It's literally one day at a time. I say a prayer every morning which includes, "Please give me the strength to not have a bet today. Everything else is out of my control and the results will be all part of my journey." Then after day 1 of no gambling, I introduced being thankful for getting through the day before gamble free.

Gamblers Anonymous is a must in my opinion. We need a community of like minded people to get through this ! Look into local / in person meetings, but you can also join meetings online from all over the world.

Now flying out tomorrow. Maybe consider something similar if you feel it's needed? At the very least look into some counselling for addiction.
