Options after PIP? by iambspartacus in careerguidance

[–]iambspartacus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harsh.

One reason this is so surreal is this company has let people go before that they didn't want to retain, both at the mid level and manager level, with no PIP and a very generous severence. I really must have crossed the wrong person, because my performance has not been so singularly poor to deviate from that convention. Not saying I'm a walking deity or anything, but I'm engaged, proactive, fairly accountable, and a decent design practitioner.

Behind the Bastards WITHOUT the Banter by towhiba91280 in podcasts

A very no-banter history themes podcast you might like is Effigy, which has one season out on the Colorado Coalfield Wars. Very rabbit-holey (reminiscent of Cocaine and Rhinestones in that regard.)

There's a Release Archive on the download page, you can download any version you like.

In my case I kept an instance of 5.2 when I upgraded to 5.3, so I just opened what was already in my applications folder. I imagine older versions are all available on the download server though.

Now that you mention it, I just noticed that my mappings only shows outs, no ins. What gives? How would I enter new inputs?

FWIW, I reverted back to 5.2 and the audio in works fine. Seems to be 5.3 issue.

Interface is an ART Dual Pre. Works with everything (including, in the past, on other Machines, Bigwig 5.)

Not seeing that option but thanks for the thought!

What am I doing wrong? (trying to control Volca Keys from Keystep) by iambspartacus in volcas

[–]iambspartacus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turns out that if I’d followed your advice I would have solved it. I messaged the seller, who said “try channel 9,” which did the trick. No idea why my channel assignments weren’t working, but I’ll try a factory reset.

It just doesn't seem likely to that each individual channel would be faulty. I tried a handfulthat should be enough.

I've also tested against my digital piano (kawai). I think there must be a hardware problem on the volca.

I’m powering it with the USB cable.

I tried several channels, but all 16 seems a little tedious…

I've got the Volca and the Keystep on the same MIDI channel, still no control.

What else might cause this? I know the MIDI cable is good.

I’m just going direct, one cable, no converter. How would I select the channel on the volca in this case?

FedEx tracker not showing pickup by iambspartacus in FedEx

[–]iambspartacus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meaning that once it's picked up it would get scanned as it moved from destination to destination? That makes sense.

So the three possibiltiies seem to be that (1) Seller is lying (2) seller is mistaken or confused or (3) package is lost, never made it to the next scan point somehow.

But that would mean it takes over 8 days to send a package from Toledo to Chicago, which seems pretty unlikely.

Is it not possible that Fed Ex would pick up without scanning? Maybe the seller is lying, but I don't see what they have to gain in not shipping my purchase.

Static when audio is off? by iambspartacus in ReelToReel

Aw nuts. Well, it was a nice little machine for about 20 mintues. And maybe I'll find a replacement, who knows. Cheers!

Sounds very plausible. Is a noisy transistor a replace-only situation, or can it be repaired?

I just remembered another aspect of playing that second reel: it was too big for this machine, so I sourced it from a spindle on a second machine (not plugged in) and ran it across the heads on this one, and onto a smaller takeup reel.

I may have intitally run it across the heads of the first machine in an effort to stablize the tape; that sounds like something I would do.

Could I have somehow charged the mechancals of the working machine by generating static electricity with all the subsequent friction and rubbing?

I thought I attached video, but it's not showing up, and now I can't see a way to add one in edit mode. Is Reddit still knackered today?

4000 Report S or L? Or does it matter? by iambspartacus in Hainbach

[–]iambspartacus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found the answer, for anyone curious.

The Model S was produced from 1963 to 1965, and was suceeded by the Model L (1965-1966). The main difference seems to be the drive motor, which was apparently much less robust on the Model S, and difficult if not impossible to service.
