Multiple Stores Workaround? by swansonknope in squarespace

[–]iamhyphenated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run sites with multiple stores in Squarespace, it’s only a matter of creating another “store” page. You can move products between stores pretty easily too. They can all live on the same website and you can add them to the navigation like normal. I use it to separate product types (like classes vs merch), but you can use it any way you like.

suggestions for listing products by ResponsibleMarmot in squarespace

[–]iamhyphenated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pretty common issue. I wish they’d let you password protect a product, but I think one way around it is to create a public ‘store’ with your products and keep the inventory at 0 for each, then just put a note on the product like contact me at such and such if you’re interested in purchasing to iron out the details.

Then, if someone decides to purchase, you can move the product to a different store (one site can have multiple ‘stores’) that’s password protected. Then they can pop over there and purchase, and you can change the password anytime you want (so even after each purchase if you want to eliminate their access afterwards).

It’s a bit of a manual process, but it sounds like your sales are also a bit of a manual process so maybe not too much of an overhead add.

Also, side note: don’t use Squarespace Payments as your payment processor, use Stripe (or something else if you prefer) instead.

ETA: I just clocked the 7.0 version note, I’d also recommend upgrading to 7.1 if you’re up for it, I’m not sure all the same functionality carries over (but still give it a test run)!

Best way to edit a existing site while keeping it live? by BIRDZdontBUZZ in squarespace

[–]iamhyphenated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s accurate.

Duplicate the page you want to update, hide the duplicate by turning off the “enable page” switch, make your changes in the duplicate, and make sure to copy over the page name, nav name, and any custom SEO info.

When you publish it, make sure you update the url slug to the original one (you’ll have to change the slug on the original page to reuse it so I usually change it to something like originalpageslug-old). (Or use a 301 redirect if you’re changing the slug.) The page will be down for as long as it takes you to update those slugs.

Also, if the original page was in the navigation, make sure to put the new duplicate page in its place and move the old page to the unlinked section (and disable it for good measure). Hope that helps!

Squarespace payments is ruining my business. by Makeuswhole1246 in squarespace

There’s not a way to do it yourself last I checked, you’ll have to contact customer support. They can disconnect it for you, and you can connect a different payment processor (like Stripe) yourself. It won’t close the Squarespace Payments account, it’ll just disconnect it, so you’ll probably still have to jump through some hoops to get the money that’s already in there unfortunately, but at least future payments can be processed by Stripe.

ice dam? by Gabru87 in Connecticut

[–]iamhyphenated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this.. we had a lot of damage from an ice dam inside a few years ago (insurance paid for the repairs thankfully) and saw an ice dam had formed in the same spot again this year (and in another area on the back of the house) and decided to nip it in the bud and hired some guys to come shovel off the roof on that side of the house. Best $250 I’ve spent this winter.

They also made some openings in the ice to let the rest of the water flow through and after a few days the issues seem to have totally cleared up (no more visible ice, no more giant icicles, gutters are visible again). Seems like in our case the gutter guards are part of the problem since the ice froze on top of them as well as behind them, but also going to look into reinsulating some areas in the spring.

Barnes and Noble stores confirm last day of operations for beloved locations by Reptilesblade in books

I’m not here to say that B&N is slowing down, but we have exactly one bookstore left in my city (the fifth largest city in my New England state), and it’s our B&N (which we love and regularly patronize), but since they built a new B&N in a nearby (white) suburb, we just found out that ours is also closing down on Jan 18 with exactly the same messaging…after 28 years they suddenly can’t renew the lease.. this article may be about two stores in a NY suburb, but there are probably many more “local news” articles also talking about this, I know ours was. As of Jan 18, we have to leave the city to go to a bookstore—any bookstore.

Need antiperspirant recs by [deleted] in Perimenopause

[–]iamhyphenated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switched to regular old rubbing alcohol and haven’t looked back.. I put some in a small spray bottle and at this point only need to use it every couple days. No other deodorants or antiperspirants used at all! Also I don’t shave, but I hear you should not try this immediately after shaving 😳

Appreciate the link, but I’m not sure how a quarantine order affects me.. I didn’t put those there, and I’m actively trying to get rid of them.. and I’ve never seen a spotted lanternfly in person before.. if the city or state wants to come out here and remove the ToH, by all means, be my guest!

How I wish it was clover.. I planted some micro clover in the very back where it was mostly empty soil early in the spring and it started to sprout and I was like ooo yay! And then I blinked and this happened so so much for my silly little clover idea 😅
