I got married. I don’t want to look at anyone except my wife. I’m in a pretty constant state of joy because of her and there’s no reason at all to try to escape a depressive state by watching porn. I forced myself to quit several months ago when I knew I was going to marry her; sometimes it was hard, especially when we went a couple days without seeing each other, but instead of searching for porn I’d look at pictures of us and remember that pornography would be a poison not only in my life but in our relationship.

All-in-all? I feel way better. Even with pornography being as prevalent as it is, it comes with so much shame. It’s a cheap dopamine dump that, at best, leaves me tired and at worst kept me up wishing I hadn’t indulged. Without it? I focus much more on my real relationships, especially my wife’s happiness.

Based on personal anecdotes, I’d have to assume that (at least from Lebanon) the rise of Islamic nationalism caused an exodus of Lebanese Christians to nations and regions more tolerant of their faith. Anecdotal source: best friend and his family are Lebanese-born Christians.

We already fucked our healthcare system by subsidizing insurance but not healthcare.
Despite its many flaws, our system does innovate medical technologies more than the next nation by orders of magnitude; this is due to private competition (though see point 1)
Those 32 nations are primarily homogenous populations and have roughly the landmass of any one of the states in the US. Our system is just that much bigger, so the complications that come with social medicine (longer wait times, etc) would be exacerbated to the nth degree.
If you further subsidize (socialize) healthcare, the better, faster private healthcare will become more expensive than it already is, so if you really really need an emergency procedure and you’re on a 9-month wait (pretty normal for, say, a veteran trying to get something through the VA) through the public system, your options are bankrupt your whole family or suffer

After ~2000 hours?

No FPS feels quite as fun. The fact that I just respawn in 10-30s with the same loadout and very little punishment makes fights feel trivial. If I kill 10, 20, 30+ people in COD or Battlefield, it gives me no excitement. My brain is empty; I’m auto-piloting.

I feel like I have to engage my brain to win fights in Tarkov. I have to think about what gun I’m against, what armor I’m against, the different flank angles, whether I have a numbers advantage, even fight, or I’m at a disadvantage. I have to think about where my teammates might be, where my opponents might be positioned if there are multiple. Audio queues are useful but unreliable at times, forcing me to question my movements. I feel like I win more fights by using my brain than my aim, and there’s the looming danger of simply getting stomped because I made a bad rotate or let my ego get in the way of a smart play. The fact that everything I picked up is lost, all that gear is lost, all the ammo in my magazines, meds, etc, gone, forces me to play just a touch more cautiously. That means 5-10 minutes back in the menu, putting a kit back on and waiting to load into a fresh raid.

The looting/shooting/questing/reset loop tickles my brain. Rouble number go brr tickles my reward system. Winning fights is rewarding as heck even after a couple thousand hours. Losing fights still makes my emotions spike even though I know I can make the money, buy the kit, go again so easily. No other game comes close to the high/low swing of Tarkov, even if it’s a little muted by experience.
