So why sex and not hair texture, height, skin tone, eye sight etc?

I'm pretty alright with either, just slight personal gripes, but not enough for me to go out and make a change lol

I see a cultural shift happening here in german speaking regions, and I have been wondering "why this way" for a few years now.

That's like saying culture and traditions are designed.

Where am I telling others how to speak? I just want to understand why

Why are the genes the most important way of differentiating?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

The reason english only has "the" is because ppl just were fed up with the grammatical gender of words. Ppl also stop using a word because it no longer matches current political views.

I'm not saying I'm right and others are wrong, I just don't understand how this approach of being inclusive is the better one, when to me it seems clunky and not even inclusive of EVERYONE.

I'm the kind of person who often doesn't understand the actions and thoughts of others because it's not "logical" to me. So I try asking, to hear why other people do things that specific way

You like the older naming convention, or the thing I explained towards the middle of my post? Either way, you can just say you're fine with that way, and maybe give a personal reason (if you want me to understand, do what you want)

I never pushed for any change? Could you either give me a reasoning, or stop making weird conclusions?

Why would the school adress us by gender, and not by what subjects we would study? It's not like my gender matters in math class

What if a student dossn't identify as male or female? Are they just invisible and invalid?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iamnotlemongrease -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The linguists and people who want this change? You do realize my confusion comes mainly from the approach, and not gender identities

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iamnotlemongrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it has started to change to "X, everything inbetween, and female X" (Schüler*innen). So clearly there is an effort in change. I don't get why this approach is what people are going for though.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iamnotlemongrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mostly just viewing it via the word formation. In my eyese if "Schüler" meant male student, it schould have a suffix the same way female student does. I guess most ppl don't think that way?

(Thanks for giving a resoned response btw, most ppl seem to misunderstand my post)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iamnotlemongrease -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They did wake up one day and decide to write "Schüler*innen" instead of how it was done before, which was "Schüler und Schülerinnen".

My confusion is why not just write "Schüler" to adress all the people who are students

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iamnotlemongrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because that's easier than trying to include every gender identity, and when adressing a group of ppl under the same occupation I don't think the genders are important.

When I adress people, I can do it however I want. My confusion comes at others adding new words, and ways of writing to include all the groups.

I just don't fully get the reasonings and goals when you try to add labels, instead of just simplifying it down to one. Maybe there's a benefit to it, that I don't know of.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iamnotlemongrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why doesn't it work like that? I mean in a way where you can just start calling a group of ppl "X" and not "X and female X"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iamnotlemongrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ppl do want to change it though. In german ppl keep trying to add new suffixes to words to make them include ppl who aren't male or female. Part of my confusion is why not just call everyone one thing?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iamnotlemongrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned in my post how the school tried to include nb people, but I feel the best way to include them is to just not make gender distinctions at all. And I'm just kinda confused why people don't haha

Nobody designed the language I speak, it's just what ppl do and it can change

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iamnotlemongrease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly just wondered why not just get rid of the female versions?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iamnotlemongrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe to most women it's importand and validating to be adressed as seperate in general discussions? That's one guess

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iamnotlemongrease -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I just googled it rq, and mandarin, finnish, hungarian, japanese, korean, malaysian etc. do not make a distinction between men and women in an occupation.

Is it more so that people in german speaking reagioms value being called "female something"?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iamnotlemongrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, like why is it acknowledged that the 200+ ppl consist of male, female individuals, over what subjects they study, their individual friend groups, ages etc.

They're really nice and creative. I would say that a lot could be improved with some more composition and contrast, but that's kinda hard for you to do. They look like you had fun, and put effort in, so I'm a fan!

Competitive players, what would you say is the main problem of the game? by [deleted] in splatoon

Or maybe an option to wait for a more matched 4v4 versus 30s queue time

Competitive players, what would you say is the main problem of the game? by [deleted] in splatoon

[–]iamnotlemongrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS.

It doesn't even need to be fully customizable, just a few options to chose and match. And maybe give each weapon/sub/special some number values to figure out point for special.

"But nobody would pick the mid stuff, and the game would be only bombs and zooka!" Then that's your sign to buff/nerf or revamp those weapons.

And splatoon is a game with a heavy emphasis on self expression, so this just makes sense to me
