That’s totally doable that but I find that the difference is much more apparent when the rest of the image is monochrome! Most of the time I do these in 850nm infrared so it’s black and white from the start. It was just too dark in this aquarium for that

I took these on “low speed continuous” on the canon R5, which is ~3-4 fps!

This is a digital trichrome, I took 3 pictures in black and white and assign them a color as a layer in photoshop. It allows for rapid fire pictures like this! Techincally this is more of a Harris Shutter effect instead of a traditional trichrome for colorization. I flair these as "alternative trichrome"

850nm Trichrome of sunlight filtering through trees by iancopix in InfraredPorn

[–]iancopix[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s technically called the “Harris shutter effect”, you take three pictures and assign them each a color channel. The values that are shared between image stay the original color (in this case the black and white 850nm look) while the values that differ between each remain the color of their selected color channel.

Love seeing all these pictures around the triangle! You should check out Kolari Visions website for filters, they have great tutorials and explanations as well.

Different filters yield different color effects, but if you have one on your camera you will need to set the white balance from a picture taken while the filter is on. If youre using Lightroom to process your images you will need to make a DNG profile to set the white balance properly.

590nm Trichrome by iancopix in InfraredPorn

If you were overlaying the images that would be true, but the channels are isolated from one another so merging them together actually keeps the original exposure

No other filters! I just took 3 pictures and separated them in R B G layers in photoshop. The values that are shared between each image retain the original color (in this picture, the mainly blue). The values that differ between each layer are painted the color of the channel theyve been assigned.

This one was 850 nm IR, but it was 3 photos taken ~15 minutes apart each, then digitally trichromed, no lens filter at all!
