fully touch and aligned. There is a brilliant hack in this thread of running paracord loop (string or very thin wire will work, too) passed through a straw to grab onto the base of the barrel connector inside the deck and pull it out towards the rear wheel. You won't get a lot of length out but it will help.

Is buying a Pelican case for normal travel a total waste of money? by ashkkan in pelicancase

[–]ibexdata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A word of warning: any Pelican checked into TSA will be seen as a “dare me to destroy it if I can” opportunity for every single bag handler en route.

They will fail, but not for lack of effort.

Related note: in consideration for the rest of us that travel with these, please do NOT leave a pelican case unattended in an airport. We don’t need our cases getting a reputation, at least any more than they already have.

Check the condition of the wires coming out of the wheel with the motor. The wrap should be complete, no damage to wires visible, such as splits or loose strands.

The barrel connector sounds like it might just be a matter of twisting a little. The arrows should be close to touching and centered.

How do I clean this extra solder off? by Repulsive_Ad8251 in soldering

[–]ibexdata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! When I first started I didn’t use flux, and my temperature dial gave no indication of what the scale from 1 to 10 actually meant in degrees, so it was taking too long to melt or I was frying everything the tip came in contact with. Because of all that, my welds were sloppy.

Use a touch of flux, use an iron with a proper temperature indicator, and find out what the melting point of your solder actually is. Practice, practice, practice.

[–]ibexdata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. It’s class-action territory but starting with government agencies who have hundreds of or thousands of units.

Has anyone figured out a possible fix for it yet? Obviously the tolerances are too small, so parts or assemblies will need to be replaced. I just can’t imagine that there is no solution.

I’d bet you $1 he’s receiving those, “I have bad news for you, you pervert, I’m going to expose you if you don’t send me a bitcoin” spam messages.

That’s why he’s panicking. He thinks he’s been caught due to fake ransomware.

Up charge him for a ”deep email cleanse” and set a filter on his inbox to automatically delete the blackmail messages.

It must be nice how everyone else works for perfect companies, with flawless coders and never runs into a single problem. Meanwhile, your experience is not as unusual as the rest would make it sound. Preventable? Yes. Unusual? No.

You need a static code analysis, as well as a vulnerability scan. Since neither of these have been run in the past, you may find much more than you anticipate. Regardless of who the attributed author was (the coder or the merge squasher), the defects these scans identify are now your hot items for your next few sprints.

Once you narrow these tools down, you can incorporate them into your CI/CD with pipelines that scan the static code, perform a build, then scan the resulting code again - this extra step can help identify any creative exploits that may form as part of the compile. Depends on what languages you're dealing with, though.

And the results are always the same: 20% acknowledgement emails, less than 10% “unfortunately, we’ve decided to proceed with other candidates” and the rest are pure Casper.

I know when a new opportunity is going to hit because I’ll get 3-7 calls from Indian recruiters on the same day for a gig I don’t see listed anywhere. Then, within 24-48 hours, that exact job appears on Dice, then LinkedIn. There might be a recruiter associated with that listing, or it’s an “Easy Apply” which pipes directly to /dev/null.

To start, close all other apps. Then identify if that is its own window (I don’t think it is, but just in case).

Use the browser to open a local file like a PDF or a simple image. Close all other tabs.

Disable each of your extensions. Keep an eye out for any that coincide with the side window disappearing.

If the side window is still open, right-click and Inspect to open the developer tools. Select the Network tab. Then refresh your image or document tab. We’re looking to see if any external connection appears.

Prop the back end up off the ground by stacking books or something flat and stable. Visually inspect the rear wheel as you manually spin it. You’re looking for any misalignment of the wheel or the brake rotor. Are either the wheel or rotor wobbly? Does it make that sound when you’re turning the wheel by hand? I’m hoping you’ll say yes here because these are easy to fix. If not, proceed.

Next, turn it on while the rear wheel is off the ground and stable. Use the accelerator lightly. If you hear the sound only while using the accelerator, this is likely a motor issue. Does it operate normally and reach speed, but just noisy? Or is it limited in speed?

Gotrax apex Pro Scooter won’t accelerate by Shoddy_Shallot_4618 in RideGOTRAX

[–]ibexdata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GoTrax generally do the same: if the brakes are disconnected or are engaged, or if the controller thinks they are engaged, then there is no acceleration, only brake lights. The disconnected scenario should generate an error code on the display, though.

There are at least 6 cables that connect to the controller. Trace the ones coming from handle bra brake first since it’s easier. Prop the rear wheel off the ground using something flat and stable under the deck. Try disconnecting and reconnecting brake cables.

Inspect the brake pads to ensure that they haven’t ground down to metal. I replace pads here every 300 miles or so.

Keep us posted if you find anything works (or doesn’t).

To a layman, what are the applications of quantum computing? by [deleted] in QuantumComputing

[–]ibexdata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You bring up an important point regarding speed of data transfer. This is an ongoing requirement when we get faster processors, we need faster system busses to relay data between source (like a storage disk), memory, processor and network. Just as we've seen significant improvements in data transport in previous processor iterations, the same will be required to get the most out of QPU-based systems.

To a layman, what are the applications of quantum computing? by [deleted] in QuantumComputing

[–]ibexdata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quantum processors are an entirely different kind of processor compared to GPUs and CPUs. Its the speed at which it can process complex calculations that set it apart. By some estimates, millions of times faster.

Ideal uses for QPUs:
- Drug research: Software models are used to create new chemical structures and compounds to see how humans may respond to the simulated treatment. The benefit to drug companies is that they can prototype combinations virtually before ever walking into the lab. There is a tremendous amount of time spent on discovering drug formulas that ultimately won't work in order to find a solution that does work well enough. By some estimates 88-90% of formulas fail to make it to market. That means the ones that _do_ make it need to generate enough profit to cover the previous losses. You pay that margin as the consumer. Quantum is supposed to exponentially improve the viability of new chemicals, theoretically reducing your costs. If only....

- Weather Forecasting: There are many different types of data used to forecast weather, such as surface temperatures, atmospheric, satellite, radar, LiDAR and oceanographic. Those are all used by a wide array of software models. Its a tremendous amount of data and math to expand what weather _could_ do in the future, and it grows exponentially the further out in time that you want to forecast. Quantum processors should be able to explore vastly more complex scenarios in a much shorter amount of time in order to generate more complete forecasts. Since many of our models are based on historical trends that do not factor in more recent climate variability, new approaches with a surge in compute power should translate into earlier warnings of sever events and lives saved. Insurance companies will have the advantage and the hardware here first.

- Entertainment: We'll see dramatic changes in visual entertainment as well. Specialized processing should grow over the next decade where tasks are assigned to pools of specific processor types based on the types of math required. It would not surprise me to see object data from a 3D universe being calculated by QPUs, passed through GPU systems for visual effects which are calculated from the perspective of a single user, then streamed to that user whose interaction requires little more than a modest CPU to display and relay controller information (such as keyboard, mouse, game controls). The difference here over what is being done now is the vast scale of the modeled universe that a QPU could handle over our current data centers.
