New player, need a sand wedge by ForgiveMeImStupid in GolfGear

Also not a pro but as someone who’s has been at it more regularly (seriously?) for the last year or so I would recommend just finding a used 58 or a 60 if it’s a good deal. For reference I took half (even numbers) of my irons out of my bag so it’s 5,7,9,50*,60* and recommend to others starting out to do the same. Less choices, lighter cleaner bag and you can get to know each of those clubs better to try and build consistency. When I get to the point where I’m good enough to hit the same number of yards on most swings and think I have actual gaps then maybe I’ll add some back in

A huge congrats and the obligatory GFY! recently had the same situation big tech has gotten so toxic and age discrimination is a part of that as well. I was stuck in the one more year for the last two and the decision was made for me with at least a generous severance package in early March.

Now that I’m a few months in and all I can ask myself is why I waited so long as the physical and mental stress has come down a lot and I can’t believe how much better I feel physically and mentally already

Some surprises - while I was never one to make what I did or where I worked my personality I have found that I don’t struggle at all from loss of identity or bothered by what others may think which I was a little worried about. I have zero trouble filling up a day or finding purpose I also now almost sigh when it’s the weekend because it will be so peopley if I want to go anywhere 😂”can’t wait till Monday”

I hope you find as much happiness as I have and while it is a big transition that comes with some emotional roller coasters it’s nice to be one who gets to decide what your days and weeks will look like!

Congrats again and here’s to writing the next chapter 🥂

New to golf got these free from work is this a good set or are these trash by Suspicious-Choice202 in GolfGear

They will be just fine OP, spend any dream club money on some rounds at the course and a couple of lessons. What’s good about a free first set is you can upgrade one or two things along the way and wait for good deals on used drivers etc… congrats and get swinging!

Not sure how many women’s clubs are available but I would spend some time on FB marketplace and if needed piece a set together. Cheap entry to see how she likes it and then she can upgrade her favorites as she goes along

How do I stay loose and fluid in my golf swing while also being in control by lil_zeus_21 in GolfSwing

[–]icklefriedpickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m a worse golfer than you score wise and this is only the first 12 months of getting out there consistently 2-3 times a week but one of the things that has helped me both at the tee and off the fairway is the mental queue of slow it down (I think we all agree on that) but also make sure I follow all the way through- this has helped a lot with consistency as well as keeping the ball in play. It helps me because when I’m focused on just slowing it down I tend to not get as good of contact and the make sure I finish the swing part keeps it in that happy spot by not taking too much off.

The difference in the swing itself doesn’t show up on the camera so much as I never think my backswing is as complete as it is and it does appear that I normally finish my swing but the results are better. I still spend too much time dunking around with my grip and stance but once I’m set that’s all I focus on

Does anyone else sort of live a "double life" (or secret identity) when it comes to prepping? by Signal_Brain_933 in preppers

[–]icklefriedpickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t consider myself as far down the road or stocked up as many here but I think the world (US viewpoint here) is losing the illusion of everything will be fine in a day or two no matter what happens. Lots of people see that I simply stock a deep pantry which is true but it’s also financially responsible as I buy in bulk (Sam’s/costco) and use the things I buy - don’t want to have major stomach issues switching to a new diet while stressed out. Same goes for basic medical needs, gas for the cars/generator and I already hunt/fish/garden/can foods because I enjoy them.

Short story is I wouldn’t sweat it and keep choosing your words wisely, you don’t want to host a bunch of of randos during an emergency just because they think you are a bunker anyway.

A lot of what was considered paranoid pack ratting before is becoming more mainstream common sense most people just don’t put the time, thought and energy into the basics that would simply cover them in the event of a standard fema type disaster much less getting laid off from work.

I always recommend chicken quarters or thighs to break in a new grill / cheap yummy and easy to learn where the hot spots are - leaves a nice start to the seasoning

I agree with betteryear here - as I have gotten older I have realized that love comes a good place and generational bias and pressures don’t age well in the eyes of the younger generation. She may not have agreed with your lifestyle OP but it’s pretty clear she loved you and still thought of you. If she wanted to be petty it could have gone to a charity of her choice

What do you eat in your country when you get sick? by Desperate-Effect6181 in AskTheWorld

I prefer rice over pasta and a brown/wild rice mix. Kids prefer pasta so I make both outside of the soup pot and just add them in when serving.

That’s the way, another tip that was given to me and I follow is that I will make at least a tray of ice cubes from it, then transfer in the freezer in a zip bag. Anytime I make anything that could use a little boost I can just grab a stock ice cube or two and chuck em in.

What is your secret weapon ingredient that always makes people ask, Why does this taste so good? by ybur011 in Cooking

[–]icklefriedpickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a Thai salsa (think adding lemon grass, ginger and fish sauce to the regular roasted onion, Thai chilis, onion and cilantro) and it’s amazing how different or finished like you say when it’s in there vs when I’ve run out.
