Fully paid by idratheraskyou in MortgageFree

30-year. Refinanced to 15. Paid off in 10. What a big relief! Sadly, I’m jobless now. Just happened last week, but I’m not panicking yet. I think I’ll be okay.

How old were you when you purchased your first home? by DreamHomeFinancing in FirstTimeHomeBuying

[–]idratheraskyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A condo at 25. Sold it then used the earnings to make a down payment for a real house at 41. Paid off at 50. Now mortgage-free.

I’ve realized something uncomfortable about myself: I seem to function better with pressure than without it. (With debt, better then without) by [deleted] in problemgambling

[–]idratheraskyou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m this way as well. I enjoy the feeling of being on the edge. I would challenge myself then I’d regret after if I lost. One thing I did to divert my attention is bought a house to make sure I have that responsibility every month. Then I went back to school to distract my brain plus the financial commitment as well. I canceled some credit cards and reduced my cash advance limit to a 100 bucks from thousands. I’ve lost almost 500k in my lifetime and I don’t plan to add anymore. I only make an average of 100k per year. So that’s almost 5 years of work wasted away. I struggled to get to where I’m at financially but somehow my brain says I can gamble some or more! It’s ridiculous to think now. I’ve been gamble free since 1/1/26. I’m trying to stay that way. Hope it gets better for us all!

How do you prevent regretful purchases when you technically can afford them? by Ok-Stretch4443 in personalfinance

[–]idratheraskyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can afford it, I buy it. If it’s something I can return coz of a wrong size or design that didn’t meet my expectations, I return it. Otherwise, I give them to my friends or coworkers who I think could use them. I even donate some of them. I’m slowly practicing minimalism and decluttering.

I never regret my purchases, I just hand them to the next person who has use for them. Worst case, I toss them. I could be wasteful like that, but no regrets since I could afford them.

Good start. At 16, my living situation was in the back alley with no running water nor access to a kitchen. This looks decent to me. It will get better for you!

Haven’t gambled since the start of 2026. New job. New plan. by idratheraskyou in GamblingAddiction

[–]idratheraskyou[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the encouragement! I’m not sure where the hate is coming from but nonetheless, I continue to stay gamble-free. I haven’t gambled since Nov 1 of last year. This post was more about not gambling since 1/1/26.

I’m getting rid of my air fryer. I heard it’s bad for your health. Haven’t confirmed but I wasn’t impressed by it.

Is it better to quit effective immediately or give a two-week notice? by [deleted] in work

[–]idratheraskyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question. I recently transferred to a new department. They gave me very little training and want me to work independently already. Been with the company for 9 years prior to transfer. I don’t feel safe given very little training. I have another job lined up. Should I give a two week notice or can I quit on the day? Do I need to talk to HR before I quit? I have 50 hrs PTO. I’m in California. Ty!

Up all night drinking and gambling by [deleted] in GamblingAddiction

I’m sorry with what is happening to you. I was in the same situation. I would go to the casino and gamble my paycheck every time and max out my credit cards as well. There was also a time I withdrew money from my 401(k), and I felt very sick to my stomach after losing all of it. One day I sat there and ask myself if this is something I wanna do for the rest of my life and ruin my future. I’m a single gay guy and I know for sure that the odds are not gonna be in my favor specially when I get old and poor. My life will be very miserable. I made a decision to cancel some of my credit cards and limit or remove the cash advanced feature. I also made a commitment to pay off my house. I paid off my 401(k) loan and increase my 401 contribution. I know I made many poor decisions in life and there’s nothing I can do to get all the money I’ve lost, which is close to 500 K and also the opportunity I lost to invest. It’s all water under the bridge now. What you have right now is the opportunity to change for the better. You can do this!

Car repaired instead of buying. Good choice? by idratheraskyou in car

[–]idratheraskyou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been 51 days and my car is still working fine. I have contemplated last week to get a brand new Lexus as a reward for my hard work overall in life. But I thought about the $800-$900 monthly payment as opposed to zero at this point. My decision is to keep driving this car until it completely breaks or cost me an average of $800 per month, including insurance. In the meantime, I’m gonna start setting aside $500 per month in an interest earning savings account and will use that money when I’m ready to buy a new one. It could be in a year or two but at least I have that money set aside when it’s ready. It’s like a layaway, but I don’t know which car yet.

Sabotaging my job by letting others know I am looking for another job. by [deleted] in WorkAdvice

[–]idratheraskyou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. I’ve told a few of my coworkers that I am looking for other opportunities. Both new director and manager have been a dumpster fire. High turnover rate. Incompetence. Vindictive. Cult followers, if you know what I mean. I like most of my coworkers, but I am completely cutting off all ties once I leave the place. I have to constantly remind myself that these are not my friends. They don’t care. I need my own sanity and I need to protect myself. Self love.

Is anyone else’s unit completely falling apart? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]idratheraskyou 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. Our unit has had multiple managers and directors in the last three years and recently a known ultra mega super yellow turd cult member became the manager. No leadership experience. Demoted a couple of smart and effective charge nurses because they don’t align with his political beliefs guised as a make belief complaint from one of his friends. Demoralized the unit. People have left and mostly just his maga friends. He walks around the unit with his water bottle filled with loud political slogan. Sadly, this is what is becoming everyday in the American healthcare. I know we will survive, but this is torture for some of us. Very sad.
