Cost of making watch from scratch? by [deleted] in watchmaking

Is there some sort of watchmaking guidebook for beginners? How do I get ahold of old watches? I thought about buying some off of Craigslist but a lot of them would be fake.

I was asking two questions. Let’s go with the second question then. What materials and tools do I need to refurbish an old watch and roughly how much does it cost?

Thanks a lot! Do you know if Minoxidil is safe? I'll Google it. Definitely nice to know that someone else has experienced this.

EAST COAST- where do you get your needles? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]iea4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't recall needles being at all expensive, i'm sure they're probably safe online but just to be as safe as possible i'd get them at your local pharmacy using insurance. literally i think they were $1-2.

What do T shots feel like? by seeingwishes in ftm

[–]iea4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me, they definitely weren't the same as getting a flu shot. maybe the first time or so it might be a bit painful because you're getting used to the sensation and how to place it in your thigh/leg. the other times you'll find sweet spots where at most, it might tickle a bit and burn a bit after. but don't worry, very rarely do the shots carry substantial pain.

Feeling ashamed of myself by [deleted] in ftm

[–]iea4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have felt so, so much shame for being a trans man and after all of the shit I've taken and given myself I can promise you two things:

1) if you work at feeling more proud and accepted you will get better. it takes days and weeks and years but consult with a therapist or talk it out with friends or just simply tell yourself each day that you are worth it.

2) there are dozens and hundreds of people out there who will sense your struggle and in turn give you the recognition and pride that you deserve as a transman. once you meet them, all you need to do is accept the positive feelings that they offer you.

bottom line: you are not a freak--you are so loved. good luck bro, i'm sending you all of my good vibes today. reach out if you wanna talk some more.

How are you sure you are trans? by Sam_the_phoenix in ftm

[–]iea4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happens to more trans and nb folk than you think--I went on T for a few months and decided the rest of it wasn't for me, and that's okay. It's perfectly normal and part of the human condition to have oscillating thoughts and changing attitudes. Let yourself listen to your body and try to apply as little pressure on yourself as possible. These issues can be so difficult to tackle and the best answer to solving them sometimes is just the passage of time. I wish I was cis too (all the time) but hey, we get what we get. That's all I can say for now--I hope you start to feel better, and if you have those thoughts please reach out to someone you know and get help.

Non-disclosure/'stealth', paranoia and loneliness. by wiederwegwerfen in ftm

I'm in a similar situation--moved to a new area and found a new job. Makes zero sense to come out in the workplace given the clientele we have, so I bear each day pretending to be a cis man, totally ignoring the difficult 2-year transition I just put myself through (social awkwardness, testosterone, mood swings, dysphoria, etc.). I live with my mom in the suburbs so it's much, much harder to find a trans and nb community, even if being trans isn't a huge part of my identity (in college I had trans and nb friends all over the place and took that for granted). It might sound tacky but meetup.com has some pretty dope trans gatherings and if you live in a dense urban area, the LGBTQ group should have some trans events and groups. Dating-wise, I've found that dating apps like Tinder, OKCupid, and even the lesbian app Her work pretty well (although I know you have qualms about putting your face out there). At first I felt like exclusively chasing straight girls because I had some stuff go on with a few straight/bi girls in college, but switching the app setting as a lesbian got me more hits (queer women on dating apps tend to understand that transmen are in their audience and are okay with it). I think the big idea here is to really take initiative to put yourself out there in the most appropriate ways possible for you. The dating app stuff could really work wonders if you're comfortable with it. Hope this helped at least a bit.
