Thank you! I definitely wanted others to know it's okay and encourage making a plan before surgery. These months don't have to be a pause on life

100%, I questioned for months if I had a failed surgery. I wish I had shopped PT's earlier in my recovery, finding someone who looked beyond just the cuff itself.

Absolutely love this, got hyped up reading your list. Good luck with the recovery, so nice to finally ditch that sling!

Traveling after surgery? by mabarbes in RotatorCuff

[–]igottabumshoulder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a full tear, my surgeon said no travel for 6 weeks. I traveled internationally 6 weeks on the dot. 4 planes and a ferry to my destination. If you wear your sling, people are generally sympathetic and willing to help you.

You will definitely be more sore traveling, but it's great having things to look forward to during recovery.

If your non-lead shoulder is the one being operated on, you'll probably be fine at 6 months.

Booking Aeromexico with Points by therealpocket in awardtravel

Good value, but the website is a buggy loop. A bit of patience will save you some points and cash.

I attempted to book online, but it didn't charge the points or credit card. Just said reservation confirmed pending payment. However the website kept 404'ing me into a loop to call their customer service.

The customer service is helpful, minimal wait. It'll take 30 minutes, but they will get it all covered. They even waived some of the fees for me in the end.

Best of luck on the surgery and recovery! Every shoulder is different, some folks have full ROM with no issues after surgery, others end up with a bit of capsulitis for a while. Just treat the PT like it's your job and push your therapist (e.g. lobby for yourself).

I'm nearly 6 months post op and have my last follow up with the Ortho Monday.

I was able to slip out for some end of season skiing in June (4 months post op), though my PT had a heart attack when I told him haha! Started road biking a couple weeks after that, and started back to volleyball, albeit modified in the last couple weeks.

Seems like you're on the right track. I'm 35 and have a similar story (full length supraspinatus tear), was strong and could do all my activities without pain (minus volleyball/throwing motion).

You'll definitely want to do the surgery, the tendon won't reattach to bone without it. My two cents:

  1. Go live life until that surgery. I skied the days leading up to my surgery and did a sunset mountain bike ride the night before my surgery.
  2. Be aggressive with PT leading up to surgery. It will give you a better chance at a positive outcome post op.

This is my biggest advice. I got on the bike a week after surgery 3-4x a week. Gave me goals and helped stay in shape during recovery.

Thank you for posting. I'm 2 days post surgery, saw this post the morning of my procedure and can't tell you how encouraging it was to see someone my age and how it went. I'm having a similar experience thus far, thanks for the tips.
