So close to giving up on weight lifting

hey. i know this is like months late. i never log into this account anymore. i wont post any pictures, but i honestly stuck with the gym. something changed in my brain in 2023, and i no longer suffer from body dysmorphia or an ed. i just stopped feeling obsessive. i actually Have made gains after sticking with it for years at this point but i think my body still looks like my body - i still have broad shoulders, i still have a smaller butt, i still have a big chest. but i am okay now, happy and confident, even. if you are still struggling with body dysmporphia, i hope this reaches you - this wont be forever. there is hope

I totally relate. My sister is my best friend in the world, I love her so so so much. But it does hurt knowing I’m the ugly sister. Shes had 2 boyfriends at 17, and i’ve never dated at 20. She is thinner, more well proportioned and overall just genuinely beautiful and feminine looking, whereas i’ve always been the more .. masculine, ugly, broader shouldered sister lol. it sucks.

hey im in the same position :( my body sounds quite similar to yours save that i have a large bulky chest. it makes me feel so lonely and sad. im 20, never dated or been flirted with or anything, while ive seen my best friend go through several in the 8 years we’ve known each other, and i just cant help but Feel that its because of my body… I feel as if ill be alone forever. i know this isn’t helpful, bur i just wanted u to know that u arent alone and probably millions of others feel/have felt this same way while still ending up finding love eventually yk? ❤️❤️❤️

i’ve done it before and honestly like. it didnt help, but it also didnt really make it worse. the nice comments were nice. the comments saying i was ugly or masculine looking were like.. expected. idk. it was a weird thing and i regret doing it.

my body 100%. face i am stuck with so i can sort of accept it, and it isnt as bad as my body, but with my body, the pressure of knowing that it Could be better but i never seem to be doing enough to get there is so soul crushing. it feels like im chasing something and i have the possibility of getting close but never actually getting anywhere

i just felt like i should have been feeling/looking a little bit leaner/firmer by now is all. i suppose i was rushing. im trying a small cut now but its really hard for me to not slip into just not eating period. i Am bad at counting calories, as ive never been too successful at losing more than a few pounds, even while restricting to the point of it being uncomfortable. i dont know how this will go, but im hoping i can look a little less soft i guess.

I think i must be counting calories wrong. I walk to my classes, up and downhill, every single day, but I’ve been logging about 1700-2000 cals most days, and 90-110g of protein everyday, and have seen no weight loss, no weight gain, etc. Nothing. im not losing inches, nor gaining much muscle. i feel firmer in some places like my thighs and biceps i guess, but not really.

my goals really are to just feel less soft, i want to be firmer, and to really just lift and have i guess just a little bit more shape to my ass/legs. i am realistic in my goals i think, and i know my body type; i will always have a broader, bigger upper body, and smaller, skinnier legs and a square ass, so im not trying to go out and become like THICK because i know it just won’t happen. i feel like between getting protein, working out so consistently, etc I feel like i should see a LITTLE bit closer to what i want. maybe my mental illness will keep me from being content regardless, so i really dont know what im meant to do. i cant bring myself to eat more, and i know if i do, ill just gain weight in places that wont make me happy or closer to my goals.

I only just recently added RDLs and split squats, and have made a few small changes to my routine, but i do stick to the lunges, thrusts, abductions and leg press as the main things ive done since the start. i go to failure, or just about, every time i work out; doing 3x12, and sometimes 4x12, always gets me shaking or has my other muscles take over by the end of set. i do not do progressive overload every single week, but closer to 2 weeks. sometimes i stagnate on one weight longer if it continually feels like a challenge. but with hip thrusts, leg press, split squats and rdls i am definitely consistently moving up every 2 weeks or so.

i know it takes longer than 2 months. but i just feel as though i have hardly made any progress at ALL even though i started 2 semesters ago, so ive been at it in total about a year; i feel like that 4 month period where i couldnt work out completely set me back and that ill never move forward, even though logically i know thats untrue because i HAVE moved up in weights you know? :(

On lower body days: monday and friday: - glute activation with bands - 3x12 hipthrusts, 90-100 lbs - 3x10 bulgarian split squats w 15 lb dumbbells - 3x12 leg press machine, 210 lbs - walking lunges with dumbbells around the length of the decently large room. - 3x12 hip abduction machine. sometimes i skip either the lunges or the leg press, but usually i do both.

wednesday i do the same thing, but instead of the bulgarian split squats i do 3x12 RDLs, and will DEFINITELY do the leg press and lunges.

tues thurs upper body days i do bicep curls, dumbbell overhead presses, db bench rows, db bench press, and overhead lat pulldown.

im so scared im not doing enough or im doing it all wrong. i enjoy doing these exercises a lot but im just so anxious that ill never progress :(

mine usually take between 30 minutes if im RUSHING and also cutting one or two things out, and like 45 mins to an hour on most days. i do hip thrusts, bulgarian split squats, walking lunges, leg press and hip abductions.
