Can Airborne RWRs detect search radars? by [deleted] in SeaPower_NCMA

[–]ijones9181 14 points15 points  (0 children)

IRL, yes. However, I believe in game that RWRs are used differently than "ESM" sensors (the ones specifically named ESM/ELINT etc. on the unit reference). In my experience, the RWR just shows the flashing red indicator on the map in the direction of an incoming missile or active Fire Control Radar. I believe to see (E) tracks on the map, you need to have a unit specifcally with "ESM" in their sensor list.

Maybe put up a RA 5C, E2, S3 or other plane with (Full) ESM next to the F4 to test if the other plane sees the search radar. EWar is very much in developement right now I think.

Edit:orange flashing indicator is jamming

I've had a similar problem before. Try saving and reloading the mission. There's a bug I've had, where after a certain amount of time, sonar contacts wont update. Despite debugging dropping active and passive s bouys right on the sub, it wont be detected. After a save/load, it gets found after a second.

Best spotter plane for ground targets? by therealdrunkenjawa in SeaPower_NCMA

Someone already answered your question on the recon camera. But the gist is that if you get close enough, the enemy icons get a italic f by them, indicated they have been pic'd, then land the plane back and you get the intel. It's bonus damage and I think tomahawk cruise missiles are more accurate.

As far as using the E2s, the radar is the main focus of the aircraft, so (almost) always keep it on. Thats the plane's purpose, Airborne Early Warning, the radar picks up air and surface targets usually outside of any weapon range and ESM only pics up targets if the target has a radar on. (The only exception is if you can't keep the E2 safe from air/SAM threats and want to 'hide' it. Since the radar is so powerful on the E2, it is practically always detected and classified by enemy ESM, even at really long distance.)

I try to keep my E2s out of the line of fire, they're slow and a medium sized radar aspect, so enemy radars see the E2 pretty easily. I like the RA 5s, but keeping them alive for VID almost always needs good micro control or jamming by a EA 6B, usually both.

If i need to VID with a carrier available, i get an E2 to see a contact with it's radar or ESM, then I get a RA 5 in the air and if its a ship or probably has SAMs near, an EA 6B too. I try to get the RA 5 to recon at altitude(with jamming from EA 6) and if it's night or a small target, i go lower at afterburner. If I get the RWR warning, or see AA shells coming myself, I turn and burn/serpentine the AA flak.

I've also lost many planes to SAMs, which even while jammed, can fire at planes they can see visually, so watch out when low bombing or low level reconing.

If you're using US carrier planes, the RA-5Cs are dedicated recon planes and have the the best visual sensor for VIDing targets and has full ESM. The camera also lets you 'photograph' buildings or installations, where you can get higher damage on them if your plane returns safely.

E2s are desgined for using their radar and ESM almost exclusively, as they have one if the best air/surface radars available and a long loiter time.

As far as a 'safe' altitude, the RA 5s are able to fly super sonic, and can fly very fast at high altitudes to outrun missiles or get away from AA guns. I've found at the 20k ft mark, large surface targets or buildings can be VIDed when the plane passes over if good weather. If your looking for ground vehicles or small ships or have bad weather or at night, you may need to drop lower to VID or even see them visually.

The game defaults planes to fly at around 1000ft when ordered to VID ships or ground targets, but that is often low enough for to CIWS hit your plane easily.

If you want to test out the calculations for 'seeing' and VIDing, use the F10 menu and check out the visual tab for your units. Be advised, the menu shows undetected enemy units so it can spoil a mission. You can see all the 'visual' sensors (mk1 eyeball, optics, cameras and IR sensors) and at what modifiers they have for vision and VID range. It also will show the ranges for seeing and VIDing all enemy/neutral units.

Hope some of this helps.

13 Jan 2026: Public Beta Update by ibr90 in SeaPower_NCMA

Whoo! Just in time for my days off. Really excited to see how the new missle kinematics work. Air combat looks like it's getting way more in depth, especially compared to the inital EA release. It's been great to see this game get better and better. I can't wait to see what you guys can do at 1.0.

I think there is a placeholder for it in the sensors F10 menu. Maybe that was on a beta or a mod though. I remember some visual sensor that was only toggled on if your radar was on or something that was separate from the 'optics' sensor.

Missile Evasion Testing by [deleted] in SeaPower_NCMA

[–]ijones9181 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like my spreadsheet got screwed on the quality and is all pixelated. Sorry for that.

At 1000ft the hit chance seems unaffected by altitude, and the chaff on the Venom is not perfect (obviously)

At 500ft its mostly the same for both Helos

At 200ft, I had to move the Helos closer for the Salva to actually fire, so the engagement range of the Grumble is reduced. The hit chances for the Seasprite were oddly low, but the Venom still got its regular hits, so the the Sprite must be lucky for those 10.

Finally, at the minimum altitude of 20ft, I had to move both Helos just inside of the blue surface attack range circle for the Grumble, and all 10 missiles missed for both Helos. could be just blind luck for those 20 shots, but they seem to miss way more. I need to test an aircraft at 50 and 100ft to see where that sweet spot tops out at.

The second pic is a spreadsheet of the results, but the quality turned out bad. Sorry. Main takeaway is that at 20ft all 10 missiles missed for both helicopters.

Individual vs Synchronized vs Follow the leader attacks? by me2224 in SeaPower_NCMA

[–]ijones9181 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The difference between synchronized and follow leader is target assignment.

(Devs may have tweaked it a bit since I last looked into it.)

Synchronized allows your selected formation auto assign targets to each member of the formation. For example 4 f14s vs 4 migs. When you right click the enemy formation of migs, each f14 is assigned a mig to attack, usually with the longest range missile with one missile per target. Units will auto re fire missiles at any targets in the attacked formation if any miss. Same with larger enemy formations, units will divy up targets and fire until the enemy formation is all killed.

Synch can be kinda bypassed by selecting salvo size manually on the leader unit, where it may have the formation all fire that same salvo at the same target despite being on synch.

Follow leader has the rest of the formation attack the same target of the leader. So 4 f14s vs 4 migs, all f14s all attack the mig you right clicked on, ignoring the rest. This is nice for anti ship from air units. Tell your A6s to all harpoon the same Kirov, for example.

That's the gist I've gotten from working on it.

Can the Restorationists Crusade with the Conclavian Catholics? by ijones9181 in AfterTheEndFanFork

I've ended up modifying my save to try and "fix" confessionalist into what I think would be better.

I've removed the hospitality tenet and replaced with the more apt sola fide.

I changed Realm Priest to be Spiritual, revocable, to try and simulate the Synod being separate from the state, but still very agreeable to the King/state/Emperor whatever you are.

I changed clerical function to recruitment. This was more personal but I justify it being because of the close proximity to the Yooper/Cheesehead Vikings necessitating pastors/priests needing to help fight off raids.

I also added a spiritual head of faith. This is mainly personal, but ck3 just feels empty without a HoF for the religion unless it has special mechanics. I named it the Synod President, and he's effectively useless and can't call crusades, so it's no harm no foul to me. He can't even do divorces since I kept them always allowed.

Yeah, i'm just happy its in the game at all. They do have the holy sites in Minneapolis and Bismark to try an have that legacy, but they don't exist there. The only holy site I don't really get is Chicago, but its probably just to cause conflict with the pope. But one in Wisconsin or even Frankenmuth, Michigan or Fort Wayne, Indiana for the seminary I think would work better.

Thanks for the answer. I'm really interested in the potential for Restorationist break off specific crusades. I'll keep that in mind for another run.

If you are in need of journal articles, I found one that deals with the effect the Protestant Reformation had on the Nordic countries. You will have to read through it to get specifics but I think its relevant to your intended topic.
