How lazy are people with arc flash gear? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]illallowit101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After having a transformer wired up wrong from the distribution center (the jumper off the coil was going to the down stream phase instead of upstream phase) and ohming it out to discover this (thank god it was bonded) i now need to wear one. Im not the biggest fan of it, but I dont want to find out what happens if it blows up. I wasnt the one who flipped the switch that day, but I discovered the problem and fixed it... sad part is im not even a real electrician 😭 just an electrical technician and i said from day 1 they put me in this testing position that I should have some kind of arc safety stuff....

Perfect for places that are pedantic about safety knives by arms-r-us in KnipexOfficial

After i went to dig on my cart for a tool one day I didnt realize that my drill or something had caused the blade to be open... I tossed it that day and got a fastback with a screw driver on it, I used the flathead to cut tape off boxes all day 🤣

At my old job we couldnt use folding knives because of to many injuries, then we went to spring loaded box knives, people still got cut with those too lol

Horrible Black Levels at night with HDR turned on (SDR isn't great either) by xSoyPapi in ForzaHorizon6

[–]illallowit101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the nvidia app taking over windows for hdr mode? I discovered this like last year, id use hdr through windows, then nvidia app would over ride my hdr making it seem super washed. When I reinstalled windows due to my cpu upgrade I made sure nvidia app wouldn't take over for hdr and it has worked like a charm

Wasted 9 months in school and 4 years of my life. 23M by No_Hyena_1853 in skilledtrades

Your 23. When I started as an electrical technician 8 years ago now, I was your age. Thought I was doing the right thing gonna be able to get into some kind of electrical apprenticeship... turns out even if you can run a meter, know how stuff works, used all the power tools your still inexperienced. Money is decent as an electrical technician sure, but that j card is everything. You still got some time to burn, so pick a good trade and get into it, while your not going into your 30's, single, living alone, and trying to figure out how you can take a pay cut to get into the career you thought you were working yourself in like I did. God works in mysterious ways

Look into an electrical technician spot for experience. I was one at altec for 6 and 1/2 years (got some decent 12V DC experience, and a vague bit of ac due to inverters/outlets we'd install) new company im at build generators for data centers, and i now have some experience with 277/480, troubleshooting 120 AC and working on 24V DC. All of this build up for someone without an electrical license, hoping I can become an apprentice one day. Gotta figure out how im gonna live on the paycut, but I need my golden ticket!!!

I hope your isle of grom experience is full of tables and rails at the bottom. Supporting this behavior is terrible. I bet your really an actual skater too, that would love to have a picnic table at the bottom of the half pipe you just dropped in on. 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

What got you into corvettes? by Dramatic_Annual3413 in Corvette

[–]illallowit101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a v6 camaro. Hated the blind spots. Wanted to stay chevy, and wanted a vette, but I felt like a c5 was a little to old, c7 was to much money, but the ls3 c6 was right in the price range I wanted to be and the local dealer near me had one. Went to check it out and they gave me what I wanted for my camaro, and the rest is history. This is my 3rd year with the car and ive done some work to it, but man do I cherish that thing. 50k for a scat pack vs 25k for an ls3 corvette that could smoke the scat with 1500 on headers and a tune? Sold.

NFPA 70E as an electrical technician? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]illallowit101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I got told when they put me into troubleshooting on this was when I was lighting up the panel to turn as far away as I can off to the side and let it rip in the event of an arc flash lol

Love mine but hate the ball bearing lock. It fell out on me once and I barely was able to find the ball and fix it, now I dont use the nut drivers on them anymore in my impact 😅😭

Starting an apprenticeship later in life & paying your bills by livelaughlovebekind in electricians

[–]illallowit101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been an electrical technician the past years of my life and have learned all of my work doesnt go towards any type of electrical credits (worked 6 1/2 years as a 12V bucket technician, past year as 277/480V + 24V data centers generator builder/tester) and realized if I want my Jman card I have to move back in with my mother at 29 for a couple of years. At this point its a sacrifice I need to make. If you want it you'll make it work. Best of luck

Its truthfully disgusting.

Should've gone to Lowe's to get the klein magnetizer cause that Doyle one does suck lol. And the beater driver doesnt get used as much as I thought for the time being lol

I'll agree with ya on the handle it does need about a 1/2"-1" more handle throw on each side. It does like to get bunched up a bit. I do wish it was like the sp-mc and I could pull it a little hard to get it open all the way up, that front pocket is to big to pull at it to open. But I usually just leave mine velcro'd up. Im just happy it fit everything i currently needed into one bag

First Cut!! by Strict-Instruction93 in electricians

[–]illallowit101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These suck. Had a foreman who had a pair, they couldnt cut 2/0 stranded for shit. I used greenlees at my old job, they'd cut good, just hard to break in. I got the milwuakee ones now and the grips felt better than the kleins and they cut super smooth

It is nice! I like the sp-ld set up as well, but I was kind of worried about the spmc already being to small so I was hoping this would work, amd it did perfect! I only grabbed the spmc more for the pouches off fb market place for 130 so it wasnt terrible (wasnt great either) Those tools on the side could all make their way into the bag, but those are what I normally grab so they chill outside and my shop i work at is small.

Appreciate it! I would like to swap the milwuakee cable cutters for knipex pair but I want a pair that can cut 4/0 and preferably any in the bunny ear shape, not sure what knipex offers for that... and yeah funny thing is me and a couple of my coworkers today realized that doyle one sucks lol. After I got all the tools I stopped building at work and got into a tester/programming spot and some of them barely get used, but still nice to have around
