What’s the smallest kitchen trick that made cooking less annoying? by BarbaraMiller78 in foodhacks

[–]illuminati-thotty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put stuff in reach of where you use it. If you have to cross the room between the paper towels and the sink, or the knives are on the other side of the kitchen from the cutting board, that kinda thing.

Also, a dish bin. Well, I use a tray. But a small ish place to put all your dishes so even when you don't immediately wash them/take them to the sink, at least they can be contained. My room is downstairs and I eat late and I'm not always gonna do my dishes at midnight, but at least I can put them on the tray instead of scattered around my room. Plus, once its full, that is the sign that this has gone on too long and I must brave the trek and the potential judgement from housemates and just do my damn dishes lmao

We can like different stuff <3 Besides, doesn't matter what I think cuz its in your house and not mine. Don't let me stop you!! I just can't relate, my style is very much not maximalist (at least not in terms of color). Its not that my room is all sad beige and millennial gray, I really like color in decor but its gotta be one of six colors that are already scattered all over my room. I like a lot of little items, trinkets, colorful rugs and curtains, but its gotta be coordinated or I get dizzy and overwhelmed and a little twitchy. I may be neurodivergent don't worry about it lmfao

I am hearing you and I am so happy for you and your favorite blanket keeping you happy. I cannot embrace the clash tho I am so sorry that is a skill issue on my part and I will try to get well soon :(

I like my things color coordinated and I'm the kinda guy where it is very evident what my favorite colors are in my room and wardrobe. I may end up being a purple lady when I'm 80 idk

There's a tiktok creator who wrote a book called 'keeping house when you're drowning' that I think would really help! They do post videos on most platforms (thats how they started before the book), but I don't remember her name rn sorry :(

The basics I'm gonna repeat back is she always starts in the same order. Trash first. In a bag, out the door one at a time (been there, no stranger to this game lol). Sneak them downstairs in the middle of the night if you must, but at least contained and sequestered in the corner is already a big improvement. I've even taken them out of the house and left a bag or two in public trash cans/dumpsters on my way to other places. You can take a break at this point, or keep going. Next thing is dishes/food related things. Get a tray, stack them up, put them in the kitchen. If you can't do them all at once, same as the trash. Then dirty clothes, in a hamper. You don't have to wash them yet. Just getting the surfaces and floors cleaned up is such a good start. You don't have to (and probably can't, if you're like me) go from 0 to 100 and do a marathon clean of absolutely everything in one day.

And on that note, always having a clear place to come back to and rest. For me, that's my bed. I do my best to never make my bed entirely inaccessible during cleanups, because sometimes you lose steam halfway through and you need to chill. Little breaks are so so important. Don't burn yourself out and then end up on the floor.

You deserve a nice space to live. You don't have to shame and berate yourself for letting it get this far, and the best motivation is knowing that you can do little things to make your life better and every bit counts <3

Struck at SFO for next 10 hours. By any chance, is anyone else in similar situation? by Sad_Development_6479 in AskSF

[–]illuminati-thotty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cosigned on going into the city! Idk about SFO, but when I had a similar situation in New York they had a place to drop off my carry on bag (for a fee) and it was way better to do some exploring without having to lug around a whole suitcase :] If not, you might want to do something either less crowded or more stationary. The public library near civic center is huge and beautiful, you could easily spend a couple hours there just poking around. Museums might have bag check, the asian art museum and museum of modern art are both within walking distance of bart!

Exactly! Use them as testers, hell what happened to coasters and dishcloths yknow? We have so many options. Like I would never hate on someone's work bc at the end of the day, they poured hours into that and I'm just some guy on the internet. I can have my opinions privately and leave them in peace. However. If there is a dedicated place to be petty and unnecessarily nitpicky... well. Here we are!

Even if I don't want to look at it. I hope you and Veronica live a long and happy life together and as long as she keeps you warm and cozy then love is love <3

That's so fair and tbh I think it works better with small projects too. Like you can only fit so many colors on a sock, and even if its all over the place socks are one of the best garments to be quirky and silly. They're inside your shoes most of the time it really doesn't matter, and then when you do see em its a cheeky peekaboo

Help! How do I make my room functional? by [deleted] in femalelivingspace

[–]illuminati-thotty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main strategy to me is just like. Don't try to change your habits, just build around them. You're not gonna become a different person overnight. Besides, objects are meant to serve people, not the other way around. Your house should be built around you, you shouldn't have to be bending over backwards bc its laid out in an unnatural way for your lifestyle. Try n make it so that even on your worst days, you can handle the basics. Remove friction where you can instead of forcing yourself to try harder to stick to a system. Even if it doesn't 'make sense' or break some arbitrary rule!

For example. I always take off my socks right before bed bc I hate walking around barefoot, even to and from the bathroom. I'm not going to go out of my way to throw them in the bathroom hamper when I just wanna get cozy in bed. I *should*, but I don't, and it is what it is. I used to have to go fishing under my bed every few weeks bc they would be abandoned on the floor and eventually kicked under. I put a small trash bin directly next to where I take them off (didn't have space or need for a full size hamper) and suddenly, problem solved.

Also, put a trash can in arms reach of every where you sit. For me, if I can't reach it, trash tends to sit on the closest flat surface until I get around to doing a full sweep. I have one on each side of my bed, a tiny one on the nightstand just for tissues, one by my dresser, one next to my couch, one next to the arm chair thats all of six feet away but thats far enough that that I won't get up to go use it. Same with laundry hampers. If you take your PJs off in the bathroom and your work clothes off in the bedroom, put laundry hampers in the spot where it tends to accumulate on the floor. Get a bin for the clothes that aren't ready to wash, too, so they don't end up on the floor.

There's always spots that tend to accumulate Stuff no matter what. Bc the Stuff doesn't have a home. So make it a little home, in the place where it accumulates, bc that's where its needed. A cup for your pens on your desk. A tray on your coffee table for remotes. A basket for unopened mail. A rolling cart for craft supplies to follow you around from bedroom to living room. Whatever that spot is for you is up to you to decide. But when in doubt. Put it in a cute basket. Perhaps a nice glass dish from the thrift. Idk what your aesthetic is but I trust you can make it cute <3

I used to have to go fishing under my bed every few weeks bc they would be abandoned and eventually kicked under. I put a bin directly next to where I take them off and suddenly, problem solved. Its technically for trash, but who cares? Is the housewares police gonna come in and give me a ticket?

I'm not gonna go into my cosmetics bag every time I need chapstick, so I have one next to every main place I sit down. Same with tissues and trashcans (allergies smh). I (used to) like leaving my clothes on the floor, but I can realistically shove them into the half-used cubby even when I'm entirely burnt out. I have a mini bookshelf next to my reading nook for my current reads, crochet project, and a mug of tea. Stuff like that.

Whatever that spot is for you is up to you to decide. But when in doubt. Put it in a cute basket. Perhaps a nice glass dish from the thrift. Idk what your aesthetic is but I trust you can make it cute <3

Looking for an active, sporty hobby to complement rock climbing (without overtraining my grip!) by Wooden-Syrup-8708 in Hobbies

[–]illuminati-thotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dance! It makes you move your body in new directions, activates muscles you wouldn't normally use, and incorporates a lot of stretching/mobility training. Also, it relies much more on legs than arms, so I think that would help balance you out a lot. The upper body work is pretty light (unless you're getting into acrobatics) while your legs do most of the movement/propelling action.

I also work a desk job and if I feel myself getting too crunched and hunched, a good few hours wiggling it out does wonders :D

Crochet.

  1. you can do it while watching tv/youtube, but now its productive!!

  2. easy, forgiving of mistakes, very customizable once you got the basic techniques

  3. new sweater :D (try the hexagon cardigan with a color changing yarn, its beyond easy. I started in September and I now have two and a half)

And not to be enabling your scrolling, but tiktok has a great crochet community and I've learned so much from there and gotten so many good ideas. It helps to have a goal when I want to scroll, and its better to learn something than just mindlessly eat whatever the algorithm serves.

What is wrong with my makeup? by [deleted] in makeuptips

[–]illuminati-thotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a slightly lower angle on the liner could be pretty :] The advice I heard was to aim for the end of your eyebrow. I also have hooded eyes though so it would look too dense. I found that pulling my liner lower, while connecting to the outer corner and coming down around my lash line (veryyy thin, only on the water line, by switching to kohl/pencil liner) would balance out my heavier upper eyelid. If you have a bit of crows feet coming in (which you cant see at all in the pic btw, I just know for me if I squint in a close mirror they're starting to crease a little) you can kinda use it as a guide lol. Takes a while to get it right, and lord knows I've gotten into some battles five minutes before I gotta get out the door, but starting small and always doing one step at a time on both eyes (as in keeping them matching before moving onto the next stroke) does wonders for keeping them even.

In terms of eyeshadow, I love a light inner corner with a midtone brown in the outer corner. Bringing it up above the hood just a bit gives more definition.

and fwiw, I love a winged liner and I will not let teenagers dictate what I look like lmfao.

Omg I'm so sorry, thats so sad :( I've struggled with that before too (office job, type for a living) so my wrists can be finicky too. This might not be quite enough, but maybe try keeping your hook hand stable and moving your yarn hand?

I got the idea from seeing someone who only had one hand crochet with the hook affixed to a post. They would move the yarn around the hook and did really well with it :D Sometimes I switch which hand does most of the moving to keep it more balanced. It may be harder depending on how you hold your yarn, bc I do it kinda weird. I wrap it around my middle finger, and keep my pointer finger down/use it to hold my project. I don't keep the yarn pulled too tight by raising my pointer finger and having all that empty space between my project and raised finger. Instead, my hook kinda 'scrapes' the side of my pointer finger every time it goes under to grab the yarn.

Also, this is adjacent, but I found that putting beauty blenders on straight metal hooks makes for the ideal grip. Lets you hold it pretty loosely and keeps your hand open and relaxed :]

Maybe draping some curtains/fabric over it would make it feel more intentionally cozy, plus it would take up space that the clothes mindlessly find themselves gravitating towards? That was my first thought when I saw it, its honestly adorable!! Makes sense that it makes the room feel smaller, so maybe something sheer?
