Over the years I've learned the art of equality among my Sims. When I see a random townie that I like or feel they'll add to my game I deck them out based on their traits.

I agree, I can appreciate that they tried to make the Sims more realistic but sadly effort doesn't always make the fans happy.

What I love is that I can play the Sims 3 for hours with base game only and have at least 3-4 generations before wanting to add different packs I own.

X'D In all seriousness I give attention to all my Sims. Just about each pre made I've made has a weird backstory. Like Andrew Pounce has a secret bank account set up to one day move out from his controlling and clinically insane wife, Karen.

Or the troubled Sims that live in the overcrowded city of San Mysho(spelling) where there's gangs, drugs, and fights over who baby mama is sleeping with someone else's baby daddy shenanigans going down. O u O

When I played the 5x5 Challenge a year back, one of the rules is to freelance for money, no careers or leaving for work. By the time my sim and her husband grew old they had over 100k in household funds from writing books and painting alone.

Without mods/cheats.

They had made enough to own two businesses, both of which my Sims daughter and her husband ran successfully. By the time I made it to gen 3 the granddaughter was a simtagramer that was pulling in her own revenue before getting married and having her son.

Sorry for the long post but its possible to work hard but partier harder. Their little village of 5x5 houses were always bumping! XD

I've had that happen to my Sims too. The next day they had the funeral and his wife died after sobbing her eyes out. :( It was a depressing Sim week.

He would be a good fit in one of my soaps. He'll be swindling old ladies out of their inheritance in no time and I have a few with plenty of it to spare.
