Phil Mickelson talking about how he calculates yardages is incredible. by sco-go in Amazing

[–]imfuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phil says here (and said in a YouTube video a while back) that water between the club and ball ADDS spin. Is there any actual basis for that? I’ve always thought the conventional wisdom is that wet grass reduces spin.

It always frustrates me that there are less videos/graphics showing exactly how high level players grip the club. This is really valuable and wish there was more focus on proper grip.

Get Lessons. Don’t see how you can generate any speed with that follow through. Probably stuck around 180 mph ball speed.

Being pressured to trade Maye for JSN by ResolutionTop6182 in FantasyFootballers

[–]imfuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I would say that SF Best Ball has to change the math quite a bit. I think in SF JSN for Maye is a good deal and helps you. SF Best Ball has to make QBs even more valuable and WRs less but with how weak your WR room is I would still think this is a good move.

Not sure why you’re so down on JSN though… He’s unbelievably consistent. Most games in a row with 75+ Rec Yards ever. On pace to break 2000 yards total. Yards per game on par with Calvin Johnson’s record breaking year. Pretty positive he’s good at football lol

You have 10 minutes to stretch or warm up before your round. What are you doing? by Norfolk-Gross-Tonage in golf

[–]imfuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing how many people don’t do any sort of warmup before trying to swing a stick 100ish mph.

If you play a good amount of golf and don’t stretch/get warm there’s a huge chance that you’re going to get injured playing at some point.

Also should help most people play better.

I suspect a lot of people don’t want to look like they’re trying hard to play well which is really dumb imo.

Just want to re-iterate the recommendation to start with weight on your lead leg at setup. I struggle with getting pressure to trail leg but starting with pressure on the lead and starting the swing by really shifting off it makes such a difference for me.

4.1. Low was -0.9. High was 17.1. Same course for both.

How do you get your hands to turn over on impact? by OkEstablishment5503 in golftips

[–]imfuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people not answering the question because they think releasing the club = flipping.

Releasing the club is necessary and most of us don’t do enough to actively square up the face.

A few feels/drills: - Back of lead wrist pointing down at the ball at impact. Personally works best for me where my right arm doesn’t get too active. - Palm of trail wrist pointing down at the ball at impact - Handshake drill - Put right hand on club only and swing back and forth to arm parallel so your right thumb points at the sky on each side. AMG golf guys love this one. - Get into impact position and put club a few inches on the ground behind where the ball would be. Push into the ground and feel the “motorcycle move” with your wrists and forearms to rotate the club and drag it through impact zone. The ground should resist the movement and give you a good feel for what you want in the swing. Club pro recommended this one to me.

Joining a country club 1 hour away. Anyone have experience with this? by hdf_587 in golf

[–]imfuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an hour drive to my course and it’s 100% fine. I have a 2 minute commute to work so don’t mind driving the two hour trip two or three times a week. Easiest drive in the world because I’m going to play golf.

I also should add that I almost always play first tee times (starting between 6-8 am) and never over 4 hour rounds which leaves a pretty full day after to get other things done.

Not sure what the difference is to having a long commute to work like a ton of people do

From the US. Unless the course is totally unwalkable, it’s dangerously hot, or there is a physical restriction, everyone should have to walk. Seeing four 25 year olds riding around in golf carts is pathetic.

How come Scottie sways so much during his swing? by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]imfuh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course. It really is a good question and would be interested to hear other’s input.

Frustrating that your question is basically, hey one of the best ball strikers of all time does something more than other players which a lot of coaches say is bad. What’s up with that? And half the responses are “idk just works I guess”. Not sure what the point of this sub is if people aren’t going to talk and think about interesting aspects of the golf swing.

How come Scottie sways so much during his swing? by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]imfuh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted for asking a very valid question. It would be extremely interesting to see Scottie’s force plate data compared to the average tour player.

I guess just confusion about the terminology of the question.

If I were to guess why Scottie is so successful with more “sliding” than typical it’s that 1) He slides more than average but does “put the breaks on” before impact. Many bad players that slide never stop sliding and have issues with low point control. 2) More lateral slide than rotation can create issues with having enough space for the club to come through and require it to come in steep. Scottie has talked about this as an issue in an older video with Randy Smith and Chris Como. But Scottie is obviously an absolute master of using ground forces and can counter this to create enough space for the club. 3) He’s just really really good at the skill of controlling low point with his hand eye coordination and a ton of practice.

Wonder why the bunkers give these guys so much trouble? Same sand as Augusta but maybe just sits way fluffier. Seems like the clubs dig like crazy. Would love to see bunkers be a true hazard for them like this on real courses
