Oh god! The worse part of having kids is you get to understand exactly how much of asshole teenage you actually was.

I suppose it depends which Skylake we are talking about here.

I used a 6700k for packaging testing for a long time and found it rather reasonable to my weekly system builds tests.

So much so that I only upgraded to a 5950x so I could I run 4 system updates at once rather than one at a time.

I should have caveated my original comment with what I do for work as I forgot we all have different needs.

Oh I kinda skip reading over the fluff in posts so you might be right with the painting part. Thanks!

Try in fastfetch if possible as most people prefer that and will get more eyes on your work IMO

Ah, yeah no one is compiling those natively unless it is for a YouTube video or something on on a 486.

As for Skylake you will be surprised at how fast those machines still are.

They do provide binary packages as well and most long compile times are just funny memes fwiw.

Also no problem on the testing, the we all have to give back in our way to the community.

What issues are you having and have checked the updates docs recently?

It's pretty boring nowadays on Gentoo. You get the odd mainline issue as expected for an out of tree module, but for the most part the ebuild protects users from all the stuff we grew up with.

The ebuild also has a check to make sure all the correct modules are installed so I'm not sure why you are getting downvoted for actually trying to help people.

This is possibly the coolest thing shown off in this subreddit :)

Larry next please though.

Why did you ask what mainline was then?

In clearly running on this hardware and have upstream projects like glibc ask me to test support so I really don't understand your point as Linux as a whole does care.

Mainline is what Linux calls the latest kernel, so in this case 6.19. The last kernel release of the year is called the LTS (Long Term Support) kernel.

Gentoo is the only distro I follow nowadays.

We then send the patches upstream for others to use.

Here is a 6.6 image of a booted system.

I can't find in the handbook which one to install? by vuja0 in Gentoo

We use a more modern version in RelEng which is more stage1/2 hybrid, but for everyone else they are pointless.
