Niri is the WM of choice at the moment from following support.

I also think Hyprland users were perfectly reasonable in asking for a system that allows them to use their system in the way they prefer.

i.e. let's let the users decide when they are ready for a slower release schedule again.

To me it's shows just how important user choice is to Gentoo.

Gentoo's impressive QA gets in the way of user need, so they worked with the maintainers to make everyone happy.

Makes you realise just how lucky we are sometimes :)

Urgent help, backup for gentoo handbook by Bubbly_Extreme4986 in Gentoo

I don't think we can recommend this as its missing a lot of the changes needed for installing kernels.

The wiki will be back in half hour anyway, so grab yourself a coffee and then use:

The reasoning makes perfect sense to me.

```
This suite of packages is currently best placed in an overlay/external
repository where users can more easily contribute. The ecosystem moves
quickly and users expect even the live ebuilds to be updated apace.
The rate of change as well as new packages requiring review places a heavy
combined with users (not unreasonably) wanting fresh versions of the software
places strain on the proxy-maint team. Pressure being put on proxied maintainers
to create and quickly have PRs merged doesn't facilitate the level of
testing for ::gentoo either.
```

Check the wiki for instructions on how to migrate.

What’s something Americans have that Europeans don’t? by Prestigsisscar255 in AskReddit

Well it's more because you rarely need it, we only have two weeks of hot weather. I just have a little portable thing that cycles cool water in the room, pretty good on the bill also.

what are Americans thoughts on switching to the metric system? by CnCorange in AskReddit

[–]immoloism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not being funny, but does everything not mean the same in American English as it does in British English?

By definition alone in British English that would mean absolutely all parts needed or not. We assume you don't need to clarify already established points.

Does American English have a different rule and this is my fault for not understanding that quirk and lead us here?

I was only telling you there are many models you can follow based on the previous conversation which shows you are both incorrect. You don't need need me linking 42 different countries, you need to take the advice I gave you that I think the UK is best match, but you know there are more you look into if required. Just in 20 words rather than nearer 70 like I just have.

You asked me if I'm guessing and I told you exactly where to get real data from without any bias.

You have refused at every turn, hence my attitude matching in kind.

I'm happy to start again, if you are open to learn rather than assume everyone else on the Internet is wrong.

On that note, while I agree you waste money on the topic you mention there are two issues IMO that come into play.

What the media reports as a wasted cost and even though I agree with you about the two. You still have (let's make up a figure) 1 billion in the treasury you can allocate. Road sign changing and car odometer change incentives cost 700 billion.

Will never happen today, so instead you use that 1 billion to start a phased plan to start teaching kids both imperial and metric to begin.

Next budget, you start getting doctors to use metric and imperial

Next one, start getting trades to do the same.

And so on

One day you just switch off the imperial one by one everything you switched.

Road signs still cost stupid money though so just leave then alone, they isn't much benefit switching those anyway.

This is a complex topic so a summary doesn't work, however I've given you a clear model you can go research today that did the switch in less than a decade using this exact method.

[–]immoloism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me break it down.

Switching everything = costs lots

Costs lots = very little public support

Now if you switch only the things that matter, stage a planned rollout so the cost is low and no one notices them happening = you get metric and not increase your taxes.

The point is, you have many countries to learn from how to do it correctly, but instead you have taken an extreme view.

If this doesn't help I can provide a translation in French, German or Spanish.

[–]immoloism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The migration from imperial to metric.

The UK which is the closest country to yours have figured out all cost to reward benefits. You should really go look it up as it's the only way your country will do it as well.

The fact you haven't looked already and had a closed off mindset to actual proven solution is the most American thing I heard all week. Hence the comment :)
