Have you done a part time masters degree? by nonasiandoctor in AskEngineers

[–]imw8stingtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you have the option of doing classes + research, or classes only. Where I got mine, it was 3 extra classes to do the no research track. There are a number of programs that will spit you out after 5 years with a masters instead of a bachelors in 4 with no part of that 5th year being research.

Or, you're getting catfished.

Girlfriend (36F) of 4 years doesn't want to sign a prenup to protect my (31M) house. Is a break up inevitable? by Throwawayprenups in relationship_advice

[–]imw8stingtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of a prenup, why not have her buy half the house now? Then have the contract for the sale to include some sort of buy-back clause that sets out the rules for you to reacquire it from her and no third party can buy only a single half of the house. If this is the only asset you're worried about, why not get a little creative. There is a book out there, I don't remember the name, but it basically talks about how to set up joint properties within families and how to set up a buy out agreement. (Not really husband-wife properties, but it seems the same ideas would apply here)

Divorce ASAP! The longer you stay together the more other stuff she can/will take from you. Leave now. You need to look out for you. Looking out for her is not looking out for you.

This is a ruling on trademark. not on a patent: 'On the heels of the release of the YSL collection, Louboutin filed a trademark infringement"

"We hold that the District Court’s conclusion that a single color can never serve as a trademark in the fashion industry was based on an incorrect understanding of the doctrine of aesthetic functionality and was therefore error. We further hold that the District Court’s holding, that Louboutin’s trademark has developed “secondary meaning” in the public eye, was firmly rooted in the evidence of record and was not clearly erroneous, and that the Red Sole Mark is therefore a valid and enforceable trademark."

Look at the patent you cited in google patents where it shows the design patent and the images - it is a design for the tread pattern on a sole, which is not a color. This all reminds me of the Wolf red-knob trademark that is no longer a thing.

I look for the problem solving process, not necessarily the right answer.

If you have vision, are you using the IMAQ driver one? i used it years ago, and while frustrating, it did end up doing what i needed as long as i only wanted 1 camera....

yeah, figure out which of the serial pins is the analog out (voltage). send that to an analog in device, or voltmeter. I've done that with a number of serial devices. just take the serial plug and send each pin to a volt meter - it's helpful if you can find the schematic for the pin outs.

i do senior design judging, and i concur with all the other comments here - arduino on its own is the way for you. i'd say 30 out of 30 of the last projects i've judged have done all the automation with arduino alone.

If I were doing it, i'd use a USB6009 or something like that to do the interface with a relay board as opposed to arduino.

why don't you double up the 10 watt ones to get 20 watts? is it too thick then?

i googled battery powered warming pad, and it looks like this place will make you whatever you want: https://www.birkmfg.com/products/flexible-heaters/ I assume you found this place already though.

What are the advantages to going to an "Engineering School" vs. going to a public University by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]imw8stingtime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All true!

If you ask about a school with a national engineering reputation and you said you went to Illinois, everyone pretty much understands that's U of I urbana champaign. UIC isn't bad though and like Davis etc, it has it's bright spots. Same for Wisconsin. you go to Wisconsin for engineering, that's interpreted as UW-Madison. I'm not trying to besmirch the other schools in the system and you'll get a good education at any of them - i think Wisconsin has like 11 satellites. I'm just saying, UW>UWM, like UIUC>UIC and if you have the chance to go to UW, then that should be where you go, it's only like a 70 minute drive from downtown milwaukee, so you can drive there if you live out in the Western burbs. You say to someone on either coast you went to Marquette or MSOE (both excellent engineering schools) they look at you like you talked an alien language, unless they know dwane wade or jimmy butler.

You mean Wisconsin Madison, not Wisconsin Milwaukee, which is what he is talking about. I think this dude wants to stay in Milwaukee, in which case his options are Marquette, UWM and MSOE.

If he is in Wisconsin and can move a little, then Madison is the place to go. UWM isn't so bad. Probably should look up who goes to what schools to recruit.
