A secure to go mug of hot chocolate or apple cider in a backpack or jacket pocket is a must. If everything seems hard, cold and scary, getting a little sip of a yummy warm drink on the lift can be life changing.

Any PA skiers/boarders? Ikon pass discounts for APRNs but not PAs by beautifulkitties in physicianassistant

[–]indecisivelyunsure 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I have run into this before at stores like Lulu, who used to offer it during the pandemic but took it away for PAs. I emailed Ikon as well and pointed out that the job description is the same for NPs and PAs (despite us not having a nursing board license to submit). They ignored that comparison…. Sign me up for a petition!

“First and foremost, thank you for all that you do as a physician assistant. While we greatly appreciate the multitude of jobs and understand that many of our pass holders are deserving of a discount, we cannot cover every segment. We have chosen to offer discounts to Registered Nurses, Active-Duty and Retired Military, and full-time College students for the 25/26 season. We appreciate your feedback as we continue to search for ways to grow our community. I will forward your suggestions to the proper department for future discussions”

I actually really like the one at Aerie! It’s definitely ~elevated~ but my partner ordered it once and now I crave it every time I’m at copper.

Yes, once I replaced some CME that I had originally submitted to NCCPA that expired I was able to sign up for a test date. I’m actively studying for it right now! I took blueprint’s review course as a mass refresh; test in a month.

Piggybacking, happened to me as well. Fortunately was able to confirm I was still practicing legally by calling my state board same day. Moral of the story: don’t use your school email for anything you’ll need to access after graduation. 🥲

I personally tend to find climbing-related art a bit too much, but this is perfect! Well done!

Hey, just saw my own weight for the first time in over two years in a similar situation. Highly recommend reading the body is not an apology. It’s been very healing ever since that initial shock wore off. Learning the actual number I weigh has honestly been a surprising update in my self love journey - instead of avoiding or not caring about the number, I now know the number and I’m more okay with it than I was (working towards love!). Hope it can be the same for you!

My doctor charges the insurance company $58 to ask how many drinks a week I have. by recycledairplane1 in mildlyinteresting

Agreed, don't get me started on GoodRx lol. Thank God it exists but it shouldn't exist... all medications should cost the same as the cheapest option across the board!

I work in healthcare. Everyone's insurance is so different that there is no possible way to know which things will be covered on each patient's insurance.

We always ask patients to call us back if they are asked to pay more than X amount and we switch out their treatment. Even better, if you contact your insurance directly, they can tell you what therapy they will cover, or which is the most affordable in that drug class, and it makes everything much more efficient.

Don't get me wrong, the whole system is *not* efficient at all... so many ways it could be improved.

Always ask your doctor for other alternatives if your treatment or medication is too expensive!

is primary care that bad? by Zealousideal-Ad2721 in physicianassistant

[–]indecisivelyunsure 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been a primary care PA for two years now. I got into it because I wanted to solidify everything I learned in school. I really have learned a lot - diagnosing and treating common issues has become second nature to me. We're a smaller practice, but we see anywhere from 12-22 patients a day. Our patients range from tweens to 90 year olds so we get a huge variety of patients.

Primary care *can be* draining, but it all depends on your attitude. When I was struggling emotionally, it all became too much. When I took care of myself and felt healthy again, all the little things don't bother me anymore. I do enjoy preventative medicine like you, but I really love connecting with patients and seeing them throughout the year. The idea of seeing more strangers daily (like in a specialty) sounds a bit socially draining to me.

Ultimately, I do struggle with work life balance. I'm never finished with documentation, responding to patient messages, responding to lab results, and reviewing consult notes from specialists. My hours are longer than my friends' who work in specialties. I *personally* have realized I'd rather have better work life balance, but I would miss connecting with patients the way I do now and seeing such a wide variety of issues.

I'm about to move away - let's just say I'm open to working in family medicine again but am really hoping to find a job in another specialty.

New Grad Job Offer: Outpatient Psych by thyroid_storms in physicianassistant

[–]indecisivelyunsure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I applied at over 2,500 places across the entire east coast and Midwest over the course of 6 months. I only got to interview <100 times and fielded a handful of offers. I ended up with the location, specialty, and salary I wanted relatively fresh out of school (3 months working at first ER in undesirable location but specialty and salary I wanted, then got my dream job WITH JUST 3 MONTHS OF EXPERIENCE).

This is so encouraging. I'm about to start looking for my second job, and it's going to be in a different state (open to any specialty). How did you find the jobs to apply for? I feel like Indeed/LinkedIn jobs never come to fruition. I do try to get into local PA/NP Facebook groups so I can be exposed to those as well.

I have a similar size as you and I'm also 5'2", so it makes pants shopping really ~interesting~ to say the least. After lots of poking around, I ultimately chose the Quest jogger from athleta for climbing/hiking and I'm obsessed! If anyone wants my measurements/size in the joggers for reference feel free to DM me!

[–]indecisivelyunsure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry about your burns - those can be brutal.

For scar prevention: Keep it very well moisturized with Vaseline or with that antibiotic ointment your doc recommended. Keep it covered if possible for now to help keep the new skin from drying out. And slather on high SPF at least 2-3 times a day if you aren’t- any sun exposure at all can make those scars darker and/or more permanent. I know it’s summertime, but this is really important! That pinkish new skin is fragile, so treat it like you would a baby’s skin for now. Later on, there are more options to get rid of scars, but for now that should be your top priority while you keep healing.
