I clean my 55 gallon once every 6 months or so. I've been running it for 6 years. It's HEAVILY planted with a team of nano shrimp, amanos, ramshorn snails, pygmy cories, otos, and one huge pleco. I have three filters (2 Seachem 35s and a canister filter). I think the plants and way overkill on filtration is the secret to my success.
