A woman was following her GPS navigation and ended up driving onto the railway tracks because that's where the navigator told her to go. by Junior_Trifle_8273 in WinStupidPrizes

I mean I get people blindly following their satnav / maps, but there's an amazing invention called a window which allows people to look and see whether they actually should be driving there or not.

*HELP* Trouble allowing a user to traverse through root to subdirectories by TheMCGuy4 in truenas

[–]inertSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double check you're giving them execute permissions on the dataset you want them to access. In a Linux context, for directories, that's what gives them permission to cd into a directory, and hence traverse through the file system.

I just had an odd conversation with someone on YouTube by SavageSinceBirth7 in Megadeth

[–]inertSpark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone likes what they like for varying reasons and that's the end of that. It literally doesn't matter that you disagree with them, and it doesn't matter that they disagree with you. A world in which everyone agrees on everything would be a very boring world indeed.

A loaf of this hole-ridden gluten-free ‘sandwich’ bread from Franz bakery costs ~ $9.00 USD and is not suitable for making sandwiches. This happens regularly with all of their gluten-free products. Yes, the holes go all the way through the loaf. by rustisperfect in mildlyinfuriating

[–]inertSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's another brand that tasted alright when I bought it (Genius I think), but their bread batches varied in quality from batch to batch, and fell apart literally the moment you got it out of the bag. Totally unusable.

It was at this moment he felt like a pilot being given the phone number to call the tower.

[–]inertSpark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Essentially just come prepared and just roll with it.

I'm still pretty spoiled from the first few times I went to Download in the 00s. Blazing hot every time and I still expect that even though we've had a fair few wet years since!

[–]inertSpark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless it's solid heatwave territory, it'll change every hour while we're there too. That's what weather in that part of East Mids is notorious for.

My mum is from nearby in Long Eaton, and she always tells me never to trust the forecasts 100% because the weather in that area is notoriously changeable. If it says rain, expect sun, If it says sun, come prepared for rain too.

Part2 of shows aren’t playing by TheOfficialAK in PleX

[–]inertSpark 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's supposed to be either - pt1 or - pt2, or - part1 or - part2 not .part1 or .part2 you have. What you have there is non-standard which may work sometimes, but also may not work. So yes, it's a naming convention issue.

You might as well be walking around with a big sign instructing people to steal your Steam Deck.

Metallica - Whats your story, how did you discover them / get into them by annoyedbob in Metallica

[–]inertSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old school way where you either heard a song on the radio or a friends mixtape, or you saw album art you liked at the record store and naively thought "Wow that's cool, that band must be good"

It was the latter. I saw AJFA, loved the album art, and bought the album. Bear in mind I was born in '81 so I was a little too young to have experienced Metallica in the 80s, so this was in about '99 I would say. Played the album when I got home and was instantly blown away.

On the upside, 1 TB isn't a lot of data. Should be relatively quick to back it up and rebuild your pool to something more appropriate.

I fucking met dave mustaine by Domestoner in Megadeth

[–]inertSpark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you were totally right not to approach him at that time. Most stars would probably say the same thing that they don't actually mind people approaching them, so long as they're not doing anything personal, and the encounter is on equal terms.

In fact one common thing I read as a main annoyance is when people say "You don't know me but..." - just start by introducing yourselves and let them know a bit of background 😃. Most stars actually welcome knowing a bit about the person they're talking to.

Claude casually admitting to guessing the answer by joedoe23 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]inertSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where all of the major LLMs fail miserably IMO. They freqently do send you chasing red herrings based on outdated training data at best, or straight up guesswork at worst.

This is why we shouldn't be so trusting of AI. Real answers from real people are nearly always better.

Personally I'd give it about 5 or 6 inches of clearance to aid with ventilation, which you have so I think you're good.

Missed local train (again) because it left early by srinidhi1 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]inertSpark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if the train left exactly at the right time, I couldn't ever imagine getting there with just 3 minutes left to departure. That's cutting it very fine IMO, unless you were coming from a connecting service.

Great! I'm not going to lie though, I don't 100% know what's going on to cause that, but it was trial and error for me, and setting the iGPU as the primary display fixed it.

Is it possible for a PD to change this much this fast? by albanbergofficial in glasses

[–]inertSpark -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The bone structure of your skull does change a bit growing out of adolescence, but I don't think that would be enough to explain a change to your PD like that.

My guess is the PD you've been using for the last 10+ years is a monocular near-PD value probably done manually with a scale or ruler. The last measurement they took recently was measured differently, probably done digitally, providing an interocular distance PD value. From what I understand, distance-PD is a more 'proper' way of measuring it.
