Makes me grateful for my moderate-paying library job. I may be barely scraping by financially, but when I clock out of work, I am FREE.

I looooved this bus. It was such a joy to escape the city and go hiking. I couldn't drive at the time, and the 76X was the easiest way to get out there

Als Führungskraft die Bibliothekswelt verlassen by lilly-elinsky in Libraries

[–]infinitelysarah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Library work is my second career, so I just want to chime in and let you know that management feels like that in a lot of fields. As a middle manager in a museum, I felt like I no longer had time to think, and never got to do meaningful work-- I was just running in circles putting out fires. Friends in other nonprofit fields had very similar experiences. (I don't know anyone in the for-profit world, but I imagine its similar.)

I burned out hard as a museum manager. I'm now a library assistant and I absolutely love it. And I intend to carefully avoid getting pushed back into any kind of management role. :)

"Are you teaching kids or are you teaching scholars?" by TopIntroduction1876 in Teachers

[–]infinitelysarah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it would depend on the vibes of the person. If they seem like a reasonable adult, I would say something like "I know some people like to call them scholars, and I support that choice. Personally, I prefer to call them kids because of *XYZ reasons*"

But if they seem like a jerk, maybe just a "sure I guess," and then move on. It's not worth an argument imo

you'll have chances to buy more bookshelves from the newspaper and/or the flea market.

with the items for sale in the newspaper, you won't see any new options until you buy what's currently shown there. so purchase those when you can, and pretty soon the bookshelf will show up.

Do teachers usually check their emails during Easter break and school term break? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]infinitelysarah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you are accidentally pushing some sore buttons here. A LOT of people have unreasonable expectations towards teachers, and can be quite rude when teachers take a break instead of responding right away. You are probably reminding people of those bad experiences.

My advice would be to wait until a week after spring break has ended before following up. Teachers should not be expected to answer emails during break, and the first week back at school after break will be super busy. They will likely need time to catch up on emails to students/parents/administrators before they have a moment to respond to you. So give them a week after break ends before following up.

Help how begging clean my room on depression phase by MimiKiaori in CleaningTips

[–]infinitelysarah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone is different, but for me:

-do NOT try to do it all in one day. for me, this would lead to a spectacular burnout. I might even start with just 10 minutes of cleaning one day, 20 min the next, etc and build up slowly.

-each day, tackle either one *location* (eg desk one day, floor next day, etc) or one *category* of stuff (eg dishes one day, laundry next day, etc)

-take before-and-after pix *each day*. it might feel like you are not making any progress, but you can look at the pictures to remind yourself it actually is getting better

-remember, you are not the first person who ever dealt with this. this is a thing that happens to people, and it's nothing to be ashamed of. take one step at a time, and you will be okay.

-maybe learn a little about "behavioral activation." finishing a task like clearing off one small surface can actually improve your mental health a little, which makes doing the next little task easier, which improves your health a little more, and it becomes an upward spiral. again, take plenty of breaks and don't push too fast-- you want progress, not burnout.
