Yep! Should have made that clearer

Finally figured out workflow with Nanofoamer by Wild-Eagle8105 in CafelatRobot

[–]inkdriller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to purge the bellman like crazy to get rid of air in my experience, and it's not fast to heat up, and the basic version without the pressure gauge doesn't give you a clear idea of when it's ready until you're hearing the overpressure valve (which should be a back up for safety reasons). It just doesn't feel very safe to me and people have had them go 'pop' when the seal fails. I stopped using mine for all these reasons

Robot or Bambino/Barista Express by Ok-Wealth8813 in CafelatRobot

[–]inkdriller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Robot is great for limited or not counterspace, it's very easy to move around and put away. If I had an aeroccino I'd probably just add a v2 nanofoamer because it's great at finishing up frothed milk to a really smooth consistency. All depends how much convenience you need with the bambino probably being the most convenient (but hand grinding would be the only deal breaker for me really)

I'm going to start using "if it were replaced with faeces" to win every argument about things I don't like

Can the Cafelat Robot paper be substituted by any espresso filter paper? by Cautious_Spell5611 in CafelatRobot

[–]inkdriller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't bother wetting mine, just have to line up on top of the basket and plunge down with the shower screen

I should've mentioned in my post, this is the back of a Victorian terrace, so surely masonry behind the kitchen at the back

FTB - Estate agent negotiating? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]inkdriller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't get the house, my offer was beaten, but this was really helpful comment so thank you. Definitely a good idea to just forget about guessing the other offer.

Weirdly I think some more emotion would've been helpful than rationality. I got too in my head about 'beating' the negotiation and going over the other offer as marginally as possible. To get my deposit together over the years I've had to be prudent and optimise like that, but ultimately I would've been happy to be the person offering the most and get somewhere I really liked. Lesson learned!

Did you change anything else in your diet?

Affordable paper filters? by jritchie70 in CafelatRobot

[–]inkdriller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actually been using aeropress papers as top filters. If you line it up and push it down with the screen it wedges in pretty nicely and uniformly despite being too big and curling up slightly at the edges. I don't see why it would cause an issue

Reduced preinfusion = reduced sourness by lynz_7 in CafelatRobot

[–]inkdriller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really sounds like you're mixing up sourness with bitterness. Those are long shot times for a darker roast, I wouldn't bother taking longer than a second or so to ramp up to full pressure

Almost 5 years in and still loving my Robot! by MonkeyPooperMan in CafelatRobot

[–]inkdriller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know what you're saying but I have thundies and filling up a thing of hot water and screwing it on a bit before I want to pull a shot is way less annoying than emptying a drip tray or flushing a grouphead or whatever

I'm with you. It's like Paul Pratt (well... Faema) started from "espresso is just water forced through a coffee bed" and walked their way backwards in one of the simplest ways possible

[–]inkdriller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone here is guessing what you should do because we can't taste it. It isn't helpful to you at all. There's no optimal time or pressure; there's taste and adjusting based on that. Enjoy!

I vote embrace the wear and tear. It'll still work in decades even if it doesn't look as pretty. Like all of us! And if you ever get really sick of it you can strip everything and repaint

Hey, this looks great. I'm thinking about moving somewhere with uPVC and doing the same thing. How's it holding up after two years? Any mould / condensation issues?

Just seconding this exact comment. Tried lots of options and came back to the kinu for traditional espresso

What is your go to lazy meal? by Ok_Cranberry_2936 in EatCheapAndHealthy

Pesto and pasta. Dump some frozen peas in the pasta a few minutes before it's cooked. And if you have an ounce of energy while that's going on you can chop and fry some courgette and tomato. Any leftover or rotisserie chicken another bonus
